Question OK- I'll ask - Potty training

I had 2 girls that were very easy to train. I know Dominic is still young, 16 mos, but we have started potty time once or twice a day to get him used to it, and we read books while we sit on the potty. He knows the sign for it, and I say potty time and sign it. He runs over to the bathroom, puts his own little potty seat on the toilet-really, and gets all excited. We read books and have a good time. He even brings ME books now when I am going to the bathroom!
Anyway, he is actually starting to go! Problem is, his little peepee is too small to point down, and he just pees all over me and the floor! I try to push him down when i see he is going, but then he stops. I need to find a potty seat with a good deflector. I really don't want his own potty chair, just one that sits on top of the toilet. I went to Walmart, and found some padded ones with a "built-in deflector" but honestly, it doesn't look like it was made for a boy, I can't see it actually deflecting anything!
Any ideas?
Oh- and of course affordable!! As if that needs said here on these boards!

I believe that most boys penis's are small at that time. My son was potty trained by 2 years and we did start at 18 months (off and on).

Try putting a paper towel or toilet paper by the "protector" to stop the spashing.

I agree..have him hold it down. I know they are small but the pee is gonna go somewhere...either the floor or his hands (if you tell him to hold it down)

I'm having a similar problem. TJ now wants to only stand while peeing and his aim s@*ks

Hey that's why there is all that FREE Kandoo right?

My son was so funny when he stood and peed. It was during the summer and told him that if he had to pee, he could pee on a tree. Well he was about 4 and he would pull his pants to his ankles, hold up his shirt and then pee. He just happened to do this in the front of the yard as 4 cars drove by.

I'm going through potty-training with my little girl right now, so no standing up!

About 2 more years, and my little boy will be there, peeing on the tree in the front yard.

I had one that had a protector that I could take off. I was going to suggestion the same thing that KM suggested... paper towels or something to soak it up. That's great that he's going at such a young age.

Um... Wendy, my pediatrician truly believed that boys needed to be closer to 3 to be 'successful' at potty training.

Just sharing... so you don't keep tearing your hair out.

That said -- when potty training my son, we had him sit on the toilet backwards -- it helped keep most of the pee in the bowl.

Lynda, I know he is young to be training, just want to get him used to it! Actually, we just sat him on now, because he was dry after nap, and nothing. He got up, and walked over to the sliding doors to watch sisters outside, and peed. Unfortunately, I hadn't gotten a diaper on him yet
Just cleaned up the floor and the splashes on the door!!

Hi! I guess you could look at craigslist.org to see if anyone has any used potties. Some people might think that's yucky, but not IMO .
