I went to Giant Eagle today and to my suprise they are no longer doubling any coupons. I asked the one cashier and she said as of yesterday (9/6/07) they aren't going to double them anymore. Well I know I won't be shopping there anymore.

Cheryl had a post about this the other day! She saw it on the news! I am sooooooo upset! I don't have any other store that doubles! The GE that was 5 min. away stopped doubling a while back. So then I started driving 40 min. to one that did!

NOW NOTHING!

they're probably losing a lot of money with the getgo gas promotions and that's an easy way to make up some of that money. I don't generally shop at my giant eagles because I hate their produce (we eat a lot of fruits and veggies so quality of produce is extremely important in my grocery store) and many of the things are more expensive there than at the Heinens grocery store that I have by work. I would, from time to time, stop by and use some coupons if they had something great on sale and I had $.75 coupons because doubling them was super...but without doubling the coupons their prices are just too expensive and the quality isn't that great for what I buy. Between Target/CVS and my Heinens grocery store for produce I'm good to go with food....

I have never shopped at Giant Eagle...but my heart breaks for all you who will miss it.

My heart was broken when Albies sold out and my occasional Super Doubles Weekends came to a screeching halt.

Thanks for saying that because I am so bummed and I think Lisa is too. My Giant Eagle was new and had lovely produce and meat. I am figuring it will cost QUITE a bit more now for my monthly groceries.

Is this Giant Eagle's everywhere?

Yeah they said it was for all giant eagles, but the day after my upsetting trip there, it was in our newspaper that corporate has decided to go ahead and double through the end of september and then that will be it. I have found that some stores are doing it and some or not so you might want to call your Giant Eagle ahead of time to find out. But after this month, I will no longer be shopping there.

I agree it is sad, no more free Aquafresh from GE. I went to GE yesterday and they are doubling up to 50 cents. I guess that is still better than nothing but we have a Shop and Save that is still doubling to 99. At least for now.

my giant eagle gives $.20 off a gallon of gas for every $50, most of them its only .10. I am torn on what to do. I don't like the other store around here so I feel stuck with G.E.

I'm so mad too!! I had basically stopped shopping at WalMart because of the no-printables fiasco I had a while back. And I had switched to carefully buying things at Giant Eagle...when the sale + doubles was a good deal (I do buy most of my non-farmer's market produce there). Now I don't know where I'll go...especially since my local farmer's market closes in November...

I also have 1 local Giant Eagle that does double Fuel Perks. It's not close by, but better than high prices with no doubles!

Also, I will say that I have been finding great prices, and good quality stuff at Aldi. I know they're not everywhere, and they don't have everything, AND it's a pain to have to go like 4 places just for grocery shopping...but it helps out the budget!

Ok, update on this. If you live in PA, then you'll still have doubles - but only up to 50 cents. Sorry for the folks in OH...as they get nada!

As much as I said I would never do it, I may change over to Walmart. It is in my back yard (ok almost) and their base prices are consistently lower than grocery stores without taking in account double coupons. I typically just shop the circular and only buy what I have big cents off coupons for but it sounds like my game plan is going to have to change.

Oh, what's a girl to do? I don't think I can spend that much time every week in Walmart. Not cool, Big Bird!

Good news for the big bird shoppers in the Pittsburgh area...it was just on the news that they will once again be doubling coupons up to .99...I guess it pays to speak up! I, for one, called the customer service line yesterday to tell them exactly what I thought of their new coupon policy.
