You spend more money when you use coupons! So, I'm in line today at FL and the lady in front of me hands the cashier a couple of q's. The cashier says, "I hate these things. They just make people buy things they don't need. All they're good for is making people spend too much money." I was laughing so hard I almost peed in my pants! My son was with me and we just couldn't believe it. I asked him after we paid a total of $1.82 for all our groceries if that was too much money to spend! Some people just have no clue about couponing. It kills me. I spend $50 a week on groceries for a family of 5 and 2 dogs. Coupons have saved our family many times. Wish others understood! Oh, also, I was watching the news the other night and they featured a family who was working 4 jobs to support 2 kids and themselves. Their grocery bill was astronomical. As I was watching I was so hoping there would be an email or some way to get hold of this family and tell them about AFC. They could quit at least 2 of those jobs! As they talked about their expenditures I was like "OH, I know how to cut that down, wait you can get that cheaper". Why do people live like this when all they have to do is coupon? It is time consuming, but so is 4 jobs. Just makes me crazy!

Some people just don't get it, that is why a lot of people don't know I do it.

And the sad part is I have tried and tried to help people with knowledge of Q's and sales. Always 10 reason's why they can't do it. Yet when I show up at work with my free Dove choc. They want to stick there greedy little hands in there to eat it all. GGGRRRRR. Oh sorry! If we could help one family every month that would be such a blessing or us all.

I used to think like that until I started reading here! I would get sucked into trying products just because I had a coupon. And, I didn't know how to work it. I'm not dumb, I just never gave it enough thought. I do understand now!

The coupons made me do it! [quote=bette;433328] They just make people buy things they don't need. All they're good for is making people spend too much money." The coupons made me do it! They do get me to buy things I don't need (but want)! I just said to my DH the other night that couponing does get me to buy things that I normally would not buy. As an example, the Freshmatic Mini that was on sale at Walgreens B1 / G1 for $9.99 last week. I would NEVER have bought that at $9.99 each, but hand me a coupon for $4.00 off each one and combine it with a filler item to get $5.00 off of $20.00 at Walgreens and I'll take as many as I can get! So, I look at it as Coupons / store sales help me have the opportunity to buy products that I normally would not ever be able to buy on my limited budget. The Freshmatic Mini would be considered a "luxury item" at our house and I was quite tickled that I was able to get a few as a treat. We are a family of 5 living in San Jose, CA. A 3/12 year old boy, and 14M boy/ girl twins. We have two nice cars, own our house and DH is a stay at home dad to our 3 kids (former 2nd grade teacher). I work as a Secretary at a high-tech company and we do just fine on one income with the help of all the great deals, steals and coupon help we've found from AFC!

My mom used coupons all the time (not hard core), there were 5 of us kids and only Daddy worked (at Philip Morris). So I learned the importance of them. They don't necesarily make you buy things you don't need. The only time you buy stuff you don't need is when you are getting it for free. Heck, you might find use for it or you might donate it somewhere. Momma always did regular grocery shopping and pulled out coupons she had as she shopped. I am learning so much here soon I might be able to afford the "p" and the "o" in poor instead of just the "p!" ![]()

I agree. I do buy "luxury" items I couldn't get otherwise. I love Dove shampoo and Olay products and the only way I can afford them is working them into deals at CVS. I feel so happy when I can splurge on stuff I really like instead of just buying the cheapest thing! Couponing rocks!

You are right, coupons make me buy things I would not buy other wise. But heck, I will take name brand over store brand when it is cheaper/free any time. ![]()

That's right! I love being able to buy the name brand items for less than the store brand. My teenager has certain items she wants and I can get them for her. I've saved so much over the past month for my family of 4. I love it!

There was a woman in the store, and she said "all of those are coupons?" I said yes. She said I just cannot be bothered with those pieces of paper. Her DH was just looking, so I had a dollar in my pocket. I pulled it out and said which piece of paper do you value? She said the dollar bill of course. I said, they are both currency, they are both paper. But you would throw away the coupon that is worth $4 off as compared to the one dollar bill? Her husband just smiled. This was at the 5 for $15 Deal at Target. I said after all of this it will be $8.50, and I will also get a gift card back for all of the soda, 24 pack of Aquafina. She did not believe me. So I said it will just take 2 minutes to ring up. It was $8.50 minus the $5 GC. It was $3.50. The ending...this man asked my DH if he could borrow me to teach his wife a thing or 2 about saving. I said go to a fabulous website AFC. Of course she never will. She paid full price. Bottom line I paid $3.50. I really do not understand this type of person. Just my 2 cents worth. Thank you for listening.

People like work say it's like I have a crack addiction. If I see them eating something, I tell them how I could have gotten it for free. They don't care of course.
