desperate need of help with potty training My DS is now 3 yrs old and doesn't like the potty. I have tried everything from sitting on the potty to trips to the toy store with the sticker chart..I'm so fraustrated. He'll go when someone is around for awhile then won't and he'll go maybe once a week when he's home. I let him pick out his new "BIG BOY" undies and seems like nothing is helping. Also should I be concerned on how he gags (sorry it's gross) at his poo when he is changed. I don't think the pull-ups are helping at all,as they are like diapers and diapers now a days pulls the wetness away from the skin. I'm willing to try anything and listen to any advice that anyone has. Any Advice is appericated

You need a few naked days! Seriously, let him run around the house completely naked for a few days and I guarantee he'll be potty trained. It is like a miracle cure. Just plan on staying home and don't make a big fuss if he goes on the floor, it will happen. Since he is naked, he will be able to go as soon as he feels it. Make a HUGE deal of it when he goes in the potty. Dance, sing, whatever. After a few days, he'll want to go on the potty all the time(as long as you can get clothes back on him!). Good luck!

We did the naked thing too. It was warmer and we spent alot of time outside. It works! There was a huge article about it years back saying it was much cheaper and quicker to get your carpet cleaned than to keep buying pull ups. This method even had a catchy name, wish I could remember what he called it. Anyway, naked works!

I totally agree with Bette! I did something similiar to Bett's way. My suggestion is to start as soon as the weather is warm & comfortable enough to wear a tank top & shorts...its easier to potty train plus you will need to be at home. When my boy was 3...I bought the Garanimals clothing (Cheap clothes in Walmart) to potty train him in. I would put him in his tank top & shorts without any underwear or pullups to catch the accident that he made. We had a playroom with a indoor/outdoor carpet so if he had an accident which he did for about 3 times...it scared him to death when #2 happened to fall out of his shorts... he caught on after awhile and wanted to be the bigger boy. It will happen...you just have to have the time, patience, & cleanups of accidents. ![]()

thanks...I don't have to wait for it to WARM UP it is always WARM in FLORIDA I appericate all the advice I will try this. Should I hide the pull ups as well so he doesn't grab one and put it on?? Should I put a pull up on him at night???

Definitely put the pull ups somewhere he can't reach them. DD is fully potty trained during her waking hours, but if she can access a pull up, she'll grab one right before she needs to poop and just go in there!! Talk about frustration! Since she can't reach them she's forced to use the potty, and it's not really an issue. Now, wish us luck as we try to conquer naptime and potty training!

We did M&M's as rewards for ging potty in the potty! I agree that you should sing and dance- throw a party- whatever it takes- we did this as well! Also, I would work on daytime potty training first- then work on night time. When you do start working on night time you may want to let him pick out character sheets- you know superman, etc...and tell him superman does not want to get wet- we did this as well! Good luck!

My DS was the same way. I just put him in big boy pants and everytime he wet himself I made him get a bath but during bath time there was no playing. It was strickly to clean him up. I went through a ton of paper towels and clorox wipes and washed a couple of loads of extra laundry but boy it was worth it. In 1 weekend he was trained during the day. Nights took a bit more but that shortly followed. He just didn't get anything to drink after dinner and that worked great. Good luck. I know it can be frustrating!

Thank you all and I have 3 years old son too who don't want to use potty. I will try to use naked method & M&M as reward and see if it will helps him to catch on to tell me want to use potty. Talk about the cost to spend on pulls up and diapers, oh boy!! LOL

stop using the pull ups. I have heard good things about the Naked and $75 method ( 75 for the carpet cleaning). With my dd is set s timer for 30-45 min. after we ate, and when the timer went off she HAD to go try to potty, if she didn't pee the i set the timer for 15min. ( I got tired of nagging her to go pee all the time). Also be low key about mistakes- just have him "help" u clean up the mess and change the clothes without much comment. Good luck, it's a process!

Thanks everyone!! Everyone's option is just so great! Thank You for helping. Update. I put up the pullups this morning and told DS that we were freshly out and he had to use his "BIG BOY" undies SO FAR so good no accidents. I keep telling him SpongeBob doesn't like to get wet or dirty so you need to put the pee pee-poo in the potty ..He also trying to get all of his stickers today as he wants to go and buy a game for this new click start computer. Thank You for everyone's help..It's trial and error sometimes just have to find out what works out best.

believe me with a 3 yr old everyday is challenging. But it's amazing how many hoops you have to jump through and fire you have to walk on for these guys. but at the end of the day you can laugh and say that's my little baby and it makes it all worth while.

btw save the pull ups, they come in handy after he is potty trained , for example, if he gets the runs. Or if he has a relapse u can use them as a threat ( go to the potty or ill put u in baby diapers) All I have to do to my dd is show her a pull up ( shes 3) and she gets upset. ( i only do this after the 3rd time she pees her pants, otherwise i just clean her up). best of luck
