Wanting to learn how to coupon! I have read alot of ya'lls posts on how much money ya'll save using coupons.I am so clueless on using them. I mean i know what they are for, but i guess im pretty much clueless on how many you can use at a time per product i.e( If i have coupons for .40 off on a 2 liter of Coke, lets just say i have 10 coupons, do i use all 10 and buy 10 2 liters and give them all 10 coupons, or can you just use 1 coupon for all 10 2 liters? I hope Im making sense If anyone could explain how this works, id appreciate it. Simply put i guess im asking if you just can get the discount for one coupon per product, or can you use the same coupon for multiple buys of the same item. I hope i havent confused anyone.

the way I understand it These women are very wise and good at it. I do believe that you can only use one coupon per product. Now if a product is buy one get one free you can use a coupon for each of the products. I have never heard of being able to use one coupon for multiple products, unless stated on the coupon. I think you will find that the women here buy, trade and go dumpster diving to get multiple coupons for the same products. Some people have connections with people that deliver the paper and get the extra inserts that do not sell and some just get family and friends to donate their coupons from the paper. I hope this helps. If you will go to www.cutouthunger.org and click on your state you can get some help with making the most out of your coupon use.

1 coupon on each product purchased. Buy 10 items you need 10 coupons. SOMETIMES you can use a store coupon and a manufacturers coupon on the same item ~ Walgreens is a good example, they have Instant Value Coupons in the rebate book and they can be combined with manufacturers coupons. I have been stockpiling for the better part of 2 years. I get no doubles EVER (but live in land-o-winetags-o-plenty). Anyway, I have managed to get my weekly spending for food and H&B for a family of 5 with pets down to $20 a week. And I sell off my excess to co-workers for $25-$50 each week ~ so that really puts me at negative $5-$30 a week. Stick around grasshopper ~ you too will master the art!

I feed 8-10 people and many, many cats, dogs and birds on an average of $35. My grocery store doubles .60 and they let me use 8 identical coupons at a time. I also sell my excess to a small store a few miles from me...I can sell it to them cheaper than their wholesaler can offer them ![]()

When I first started stockpiling I didn't really spend any less (about $100 a week back then). Because I was getting things cheaper but I was buying more of the item at the cheaper price. So often times I spent MORE than I would have but I was buying 3 months worth not a weeks worth. My trips probably look weird ~ 20 boxes of Eggos ($1 sale and $1 peelies) ~ 20 boxes Malt-o-meal cereal ($1 sale and $.75 coupons) ~ 20 pints of ice cream (B1G1 at $2.09 less $1 & $1 = $.09/2!) 60 items ~ over $120 regular price ~ $5.90 out the door. That is less than $.10 an item! I won't HAVE to buy any of those items for at least a month unless I find a deal I just have to have! Here are some things you should never have to pay more than tax for: deoderant toothpaste toothbrushes (GUM are 4/$.19 at WG right now) shampoo (especially w/ $1 Suave coupons out!) Today I got: 16 make-up items (lipstick, foundation and mascara) 4 dermarest shampoo (clearanced for $1 w/ $1 coupon IN box!) 2 Olay body scrub tubes ($1/1 any Olay) 2 4pk of Pierre water ($2.99 each!) 7 candy li-pop powder junk thingiesTotal came to $3.04 ~ and 18 of the items are going in my $1 bargain box! I used $2 off any Maybelline lipstick and got $1 overage on each! I got $.50 overage on the foundation since it was $.50 w/ $1 coupon. My total was $30 ($6 regular priced items and the rest was clearance) ~ then I got 90% off the subtotal with coupons! So I will have gotten DH's water habit free and snacks for our road trip, a couple make-up items for me and $15 cash when it is all said and done! Then I went to Walgreens and got 7 Nexcare bandiads and 8 Sally Hanson and paid only tax! I'll resell the band-aides and use the polish in gift baskets. How could you not love this hobby ~ hmmmm, maybe habit is a better term! Last edited by mjloves2shop; 04-21-2005 at 09:21 PM.

How do you get the overage? Do they let you use more than one coupon on an item or are you just finding really good coupons and sales? This is what's confusing me, even if I use a coupon on every item on the best sale price I can find I am still paying money out for everything. I'm spending about half what i was before I came to this site but don't quite understand how you get some of those prices so low.

ashambmom~ I do dumpster PICK (I won't admit to diving but my 11 yr old DS is ready for the 2006 diving olympics!) I also subscribe to the Wishing Well (PM me if you want more info) and for a few dollars a week they send you and ounce of coupons you select from their list. I would spend nearly that in postage trading. And they get different values than my local paper. Having enough coupons to "max out" on a deal is a key! These are the rules I follow: Buy as many as you can get nearly free. Buy as many as you can use (or donate) by expiration date. You want to have enough coupons so you can buy as much as you can get virtually free as you can use by exp date. I the past year I have not paid more than pennies for: toothpaste toothbrushes floss hair color deoderant shampoo, conditioner and styling products toilet paper body wash all make-up dish detergent fabric softener feminine protection bar soap band-aids and medical tape kleenex paper plates air fresheners batteries ($.22/8 AA and AAA was most recent stock-up) Kool-aid steak sauce tons more!!!

angelynne...not all shoppers can get overage..it depends on their store. In my area there is hardly ever any overage...I have to be very creative. For example....I love the Pedigree checks that are out there right now. A 4 lb bag of Pedigree is $4.58 at my Kroger. I use the 2/1 coupon and a $4.00 check issued by the manufacturer, and BINGO....I get $1.42 overage ![]()

on the coupon it says ONE COUPON PER PURCHASE. what does that mean? 10 items=10 coupons, or 10 items=max of 1 coupon, since it says one per purchase, which means 1 coupon per transaction. How do you guys convince the manager that one coupon per purchase doesn't mean one coupon per transaction. sometimes I have a hard time of convincing the cashier, even the manager. thanks

You need 1 coupon per item. There is a good explaination of it by MJ a few posts ago.

I have to say when you first start out it seems like alot of work but once you get stock piled and get the hang of it,youll never forget. One day youll walk into a store and just look at a few items and say I got this coupon and that coupon so I will spend 3.57 on all 8 of these items, and you wont even have to think about it.Even if you have to go to a couple different stores for items that are o sale, you will still save in the long run. And the most important thing (for me) is a really good cashier, always remember the good ones!!! If you ever get coupons for free items, try to wait for a B1G1F sale so you 2 items for FREE. I think of coupon shopping like a yard sale always try to get every item for less and you will go home with a smile on your face, with extra $$$ in your pocket!!! Good luck!!!
