Need baby buying advice ;)

I'm going to be an aunt! Yeah....this is even better than actually having a kid myself. LOL Ok, I know about formula check, now I am looking for all kinds of deals, freebies, etc for babies. I know so many of you expert deal hunters out there are moms (or dads). I've done a few searches and come up with mostly junk freebie sites. Any suggestions? Links? Is Babies R Us going out of business like TRU?

Thanks!

Trish

Sign up the preggo mom and yourself at all the diaper sites! They send samples and coupons.

first impression

When I read the title, I thought, Is she's buying a baby???? LOL.

Check out TRU now, its having a baby fair till sometime March and the one near me allows coupon stacking. I had so much fun buying boxes of Pampers and Huggies diapers and used 15% off coupon + $5 in-store coupon + hundreds of diaper coupons. The overage I got paid for other stuff like lotions, shampoos, TP/TB set, cups, spoons, utensils which I plan to give away for friends' baby showers. Plus, they still have the 90% sale going on for green tagged items and there are still good ones left. All in all, I paid $2.13 for $224.++ worth of items.

Also, unless you have something major against 2nd hand shopping, return all the cute little outfits & most of the toys & buy diapers/wipes/formula with the credit, then go to the second hand shop where you can get twice as much stuff for half the $$$ - all almost never worn/played with.

Videos new = $10+
Videos 2nd hand = around $2 (except Disney movies)

Sleeper new = $15+ (and can only be worn for a month...)
Sleeper 2nd hand = $4

Popular toys new = goodness knows....
same popular toys 2nd hand = cheap & you won't feel as bad if they baby hates it....

some even have maternity clothes, furniture, etc., just be sure to check for recalls (most places you can return stuff for at least a week with tags & rect.).

Thanks everyone for the advice! Where do you get TRU c/os? I must admit it has been at least a decade or more since I have been in a TRU. She isn't due until Sept and I think I have spent more time baby shopping then she has. I just wish they could hurry up and tell what it is going to be. Guess I am going to be a little bit of an overzealous aunt.

You can sign up online (not at amazon, at the TRU corp. site). She should get on the list by registering there if she does, or she can sign up online too. Then once the baby is born, sign it up at TRU for the b-day club (if they still exist that is!).

HELP! I want to know exactly how you did this! LOL What do you mean you used hundreds of diaper coupons? Did they let you use multiple manufacturers coupons for one package of diapers?

Where did you get the 15% off coupon? I get tons of baby mags here but never any time to look at them all!

thanks!!!

I usually save my high value diaper coupons and wait for TRU baby fair 2x a year, usually in February and September. TRU's prices are a lot higher than other stores. Sorry if you got confused, the total amount of coupons I used was over a hundred in my estimate.

Yes (but it might be YMMV), mine accepted all my diaper coupons for a number of boxes I got and Gerber coupons, also.

I used only one 15% off any pack of Huggies diaper coupon to be applied to all that I bought, and the discount was applied to its total + the $5 off in-store coupon applied per box + all the mfr coupons. At first, when I presented the 15% off coupon and the $5 in-store coupon, the cashier said, they didn't accept BRU cpn and I told her I've used the same coupon there before and it went through so she called a manager who said to try and scan it if it goes through. I heaved a sigh of relief when it did scan smoothly and all the mfr coupons I gave her. It was a blessing that the cashier was pleasant even if she scanned plenty of coupons. I don't get this fortunate all the time, especially with grocery coupons. LOL.

The BRU coupon is in Babytalk Feb '05 issue page 28. exp sometime in April. HTH.

I knew they would stack 15%, baby book coupons, and even a $5 off $25 TRU coupon with ONE mfr. coupon, but had no idea that some of them would stack multiple mft. coupons...going to have to check this out....

CONGRATS!!!

Target has a mailing list for baby coupons when I was pregnant in 2002 - good coupons from gear to diapers to formula.

If you have a Shaw's near you, they also have a baby coupon mailing list - Little Ducklings. If no Shaw's check with your local grocery stores as they may have similar programs.

15% off Pampers diapers coupon

Check out the March 2005 issue of Babytalk magazine, it has the 15% off on Pampers diapers valid at BRU/TRU on page 9. The baby fair is still on at TRU until 3/26/05.

Mayo Clinic Complete Book of Pregnancy and Baby's First Year

State Farm - Enter "good" for the username and "neighbor" as the password. Click "order online" (just after the phone number about halfway down the page). This book is awesome. If you or someone you know is pregnant, it's not something you should pass up.

I did this a few weeks ago, and it was in my mailbox today.
