How To Obtain Free Product Coupons!

I want to give you a little insight as to how to get coupons for completely free products. Companies depend on what we, the consumer, have to say about their products. I have always been a firm believer that if I get a product that is not 100% acceptable I will contact the company and tell them about it. I have had many good experiences and some bad experiences with contacting companies.

There are several different ways to contact a company.

  • Contact them via the internet through their website - a list of internet contacts can be found here: Manufacturers Internet Contact Information
  • Contact the company via phone. I really don't like doing this too often only because all companies do not have 1-800 numbers and it could cost you a pretty penny just to get to speak to someone. You can usually find the phone number for a company on their product.
  • You may also write them a formal letter and send it in the mail.

I really like contacting a company via the internet. For one, it is free and the company can also contact you right back if they need any more information about the product in question. Also, if you contact a company via the internet through their web site most of the time they already have a web page set up for you to just fill in the blanks (for example: name, mailing address, email address, phone number, name of product, size of product, and a brief description of what you are writing about).

The most important thing to remember when you get a product that you are going to contact a company about is to SAVE THE PRODUCT AND PACKAGING. Almost all of the companies I have ever contacted have always asked for the information from the packaging (for example: UPC code, expiration date or date code, size of package, complete name of product and any other stamped or embedded codes). You may think it is a pain but in the long run the more information you give a company the more you might receive back from them.

I have had a few bad experiences with companies when I have contacted them about a product. I contacted a company that makes frozen fish and while eating it I found a bone in it. I contacted the company several times via the internet but did not get a responses I then called them and was able to speak to someone who took all my information and informed me that they would be sending me out an envelope to return the bone and they would be including some coupons for me to use on my next purchase. While about a month went by and I didn't get anything, so I contacted the company again and this person that I spoke with said that everything had been sent and I should have received it. Long story short, I didn't and after fighting with the company for almost 2 months they finally sent another one, this time it was sent registered mail and I had to sign for it but any ways I received a large box that included a letter of apology, several coupons for completely free products, plus many different promotional items (cards, shirts, hats and several posters) with the name of the company on the stuff. The reason for me telling you this story is that I don't want you to give up. If you feel that the product that you have is not at 100% then contact the company and let them know how you feel about it. Do not back down and do not just let it go.

I can remember the first time I ever contacted a company: It was almost 7 years ago and I didn't have a computer so I wrote this company a formal letter and sent it in the mail. Well about a month later I received a large box at my door and it was full, I mean very full, it contained at least 1 of every product this company made. The best part of this was I really was not complaining about any product, I was asking why they discontinued a product that I really liked, and this is what I got in return. I also got a letter telling me they were sorry that the product that I really liked had been discontinued but hopefully I would try the other products and like those just as much.

I have had some companies praise me for taking the time out of my day to contact them to let them know that I was not happy with their product and others who have that tone in their voice like why are you calling for something so stupid. I have had companies tell me just how important it is to have the packaging from the product in question and others say they do not need it. So it all depends on the company as to what they will need and how they will react. You might contact 2 different companies in 1 day, 1 of those companies might send you an envelope with 10 coupons for free products and the other company might send you an envelope with 2 coupons for $.50 off a product. You can never predict what a company will do or say.

Here is an example letter to a company; this is a basic letter that I go by. You will have to change names and product information to suit the product you are talking about but it will give you a general idea:

Example #1: I purchased a package of your frozen dinner for two and it was horrible. There was only 3 pieces of meat in the package. This is the first time I had bought this kind and I have to say that if this is the way your product is I will not buy it again. I though this was a good brand but I am thinking I will not be back again. Here is the UPC code off the bag 0000 0000 the size bag was 5oz...I have the package if there is anything more you need from me. I really hope this was just a mistake because I really did like this kind but it is not worth the money for so little. Thank you.

Example #2: I bought a box of your gratin potatoes and when I opened the box for dinner the sauce mix packet was missing from the box. I found this very disappointing when I was in the middle of making dinner and was missing half the ingredients. The box was sealed and there was no damage to the box when I purchased it from the store. So I just through out the potatoes and made something different for dinner. The UPC code is 0000 0000 the date on the box is NOV 11 2005 the code after that is ABCD12345.I hope this information helps you find out what happened to my sauce mix packet. Thank you.

If you are writing a formal letter to a company and sending it through the mail always remember to add your mailing address and even your email address. If you are sending an email through the company's web site there will be a place for you to fill out your name and address. These are only sample letters but please remember being as specific as possible and give the company as much information as you can about the product. Add any questions you may for the company that you want answered, but one word of advice they may not answer them. I have asked questions in almost every email I have wrote and never do I get a response to the question. I just get "sorry you were unhappy and here is a coupon". So don't be discouraged if your questions go unanswered.

I hope this gives you some insight as to companies and the way they work and how you can complain to or compliment those companies to your advantage.

Good luck everyone!
