| Selling items on Craigslist
Not sure where to post this but... For those of you who sell your stockpile items on craigslist, what category do you sell them under? I am hoping to do this to make a little bit of extra money when I go on maternity leave. Thanks!

I would say household or general. Include photos and a very specific listing. Have you tried doing a garage sale? That way you don't have to deal with so many random stops. |

Or you can post your stockpile on craigslist with specific dates to come shop~~ "store will be open next saturday between 12-5" ~like you would advertise your garage sale~ depending on the size of your stockpile and the number of shoppers you could do this monthly, bi-monthly.

Please be careful with Craigslist! I used them for about 2 years, but I met some of the meanest, nastiest, creepiest people on there! I quit because so many people that I would buy from or that were buying from me were scammers and tried to change the terms at the last second, when your in some parking lot trying to seal the deal. And don't let them come to your house!

It's definately hit or miss with craigslist~~a few weeks ago i bought some leather furniture from someone and it went off without any problems. I've also sold several things with no problems. I know there are others who have not been so lucky. I always talk to the people on the phone first before any plans are made.

I sold my sectional couch on Craigslist last year. Just keep in mind that patience is needed! ![]() I had a couple appointments that resulted in "no shows". I also only met with people when I knew my husband would be home just to be on the safe side. |

I've sold HBA and baby items on craigslist but I specified I am only looking for local buyers. I wasn't going to ship out of state, they have to pick it up COD. Even with that, I got emails from out of state buyers offering more than my asking price. I knew they were scammers and didn't respond to them. fortunately, my transactions were uneventful, I met buyers in a store parking lot and was paid cash after I handed them the goods. |

We have used CL for about 4 years now. While we have had a lot of flakes, we have never had any danger or severe trouble. The better half sells his larger things on CL and works fairly well for us. Listing location depends on what you are listing. Baby items go under baby, household under household, etc. DO NOT list under the garage sale section unless you are advertising your garage sale. We have also never had trouble with people coming to our home, but we do everything outside, they don't come in....and yes, you can get a lot of freeloaders emailing or lowballing you. I have learned to really stand up to people trying to get a $1200 bike for $50. |

I have lots of luck with craigslist. We do our transactions outside too and have never had anyone give us problems. The most important thing is to take cash only and post in your ad that all sales are final!!!! It sure beats Ebay!!! |

My wife and I sell a lot of things on Craigslist. Not any stockpiles, but clearance items we find. Here are a few tips: 1: If they are not local and paying cash, do not waste your time. Lots of scammers out there 2: Never meet at your home. Garage Sales for stockpiles are better. 3: Prior to meeting( have a good understanding of the potential transaction ), specify price and be politely firm unless you are willing to negotiate. Sometimes at time of payment, people will try a last minute low ball. Do not budge or hang around. Ask for payment and if they try to low ball, go to leave. If they want it, they will pay. 4: Have the best price so you will get emails 5: Meet in a public place! I have heard stories, but we have never had any problems. Good luck!

baby items are great to sell b/c generally you are dealing w/ a new mom and not crazies. I make sure to post a picture and list ANY problems and then I state "I will not negotiate on price in person."

I use the WM parking lot for "pay-offs". if they're a no-show w/o calling, I don't get disappointed since I know I can always find something to buy at WM. Many times, some were late but I was still at the store so no big deal and our deal goes through as planned. btw, we've had lots of trees cut off our property and DH stacked the logs in our front yard. I advertised it in our yahoo group and one guy called to know if he can just get them free. DH said no, I'm selling them @ $45 per rick. DH told me, if he'd give them away, he'll not be splitting the big logs to smaller pieces to fit fireplaces The guy even wanted DH to deliver to his home......for FREE!
