| Whole Foods insists bargains can be found
From the Baltimore Sun... The Whole Foods Market in Mount Washington in Baltimore recently began offering "Shopping on a Shoe String" classes for budget-conscious consumers. Grocers perceived as pricey have been working to convince customers that lower-priced goods are stocked on their shelves. Some supermarkets are offering more promotions or discounts to repeat customers.

I noticed this on their web site. Mine offers the classes, I just haven't asked about them yet. (The web site says to ask at the service desk but I rarely go there due to the price )

I actually do find deals there. Their "365" brand is fairly inexpensive and the quality is good. I've always found their organic baby food cheaper than most places too. I guess it sort of depends on what you buy, but not everything is outrageous there.

I have only been to Whole Foods twice. I was really hoping to find some deals. I've seen the store so many times on the Food Network as well as on Planet Green Emeril. However, when I went their, their prices were not in my price range. They do have store coupons that you can put with Manufactures coupons, BUT you still really don't get anything that I could afford. My favorite place to get "Healthy for us" Healty for the Environment" products is in bulk on Amazon. They have a subscribe and save discount as well as free shipping and no sales tax! I also like to shop at Kroger (midwestern shopper). They double coupons and I can often find awesome organic deals that I have coupons for that will double. I end up paying way less than if I would have bought "traditional" product. I recently found a toilet bowl "Eco Friendly" product at WF's for around 5.75 after tax. With the coupon found on the companies website it would have been still just below $5.00 a bottle. I found the same stuff on Amazon for around $1.00 a bottle after coupon codes and free shipping because I bought it 8 at a time. Last edited by IndyMom; 11-12-2009 at 08:33 PM. |

I've been trying to shop at WF more often in order to look for deals. Having the bi-monthly flier coupons combined with a mfg coupon can really make things very inexpensive. And I agree with their 365 brand. It offers a less expensive brand. I checked out their seafood department and compared to some seafood around me, it was surprisingly comparable. So I figured a good sale on something in that department might be worth it. And...if you go Saturdays (at least the last 2 Saturdays that I went) they have samples to try & free coupons! I got mfg coupons for Back to Nature items, California Pizza Items & Dagoba Chocolate. I asked for more than just 1 coupon - she gave me about 10 each! ![]() But you DO have to look & limit your shopping. |

I LOVE Whole Foods, and they do have some good deals, you just have to look for them. By stacking mq and wfq, I picked up free oikos not too long ago. Then there was the annie chun's that my husband takes for lunch for .50 after q's. And the earthbound farms organic salad for 1.95 after q's. Better than any supermarket around here. The deals are there, just takes a little more work. The effort is worth the payoff imo.

I love Whole Foods! Its the only place I purchase lunchmeat for my kids lunches - natural, no preservatives, no nitrates, etc. good taste. the 365 store brand is good. Sometimes you might pay a little more than conventional food or grocery store but I look at it like this - you either pay a little more now for the good food or you pay later at the doctor's office when you are ill.

I love Whole Foods but the thing that a lot of people don't understand is, if you're not loaded, you can't do ALL your shopping there. They do have very reasonably priced merchandise. Their "365" brand is relatively inexpensive and very good quality. When I go to Whole Foods, I get the things I cannot get at say, Shop Rite, like Organic and Vegan products. I cannot find Seitan at Pathmark, so.......to Whole Foods I will go!
