Who does Walmart consider competitors and PM?

Walmart store managers have the final decision on competitors. Walmart does PM internet prices. Walmart will not honor PMs for ad misprints from other retailers.

Usually, competitors include stores with a physical store location within the same county or within 10 miles, but not across state lines and their competitors' in-store price stated in a current printed ad. Some examples are: Aldi, Albertsons, Belle/Food World, Bi-Lo, Brookshires, Cub Foods, CVS, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Food Depot, Food Lion, Foodland, Fresh & Easy, Harris Teeter, HEB, Hyvee, IGA, Ingles, Kroger, Kmart, Lowes (Food), Meijer, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Rainbow Foods, Ralph's, Rite Aid, Save-A-Lot, Shopko, Smart & Final, Stater Bros., Target, Tom Thumb, Walgreens, Wayfield Foods and Vons.

Non grocery stores include: Kmart/Sears, Target, Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, Cabelas, Dicks Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, AutoZone, PepBoys, O'Reilly Auto, Kohls, JcPenny, Petco, PetSmart, Toys R Us, Best Buy, and Radio Shack. You will need to contact your local store manager to find out which stores and locations are considered competitors.

Walmart states online competitors ARE LIMITED to: Academy.com, Amazon.com, Autozone.com, Babiesrus.com, Basspro.com, Bedbathandbeyond.com, Bestbuy.com, Cabelas.com, Dickssportinggoods.com, Dollargeneral.com, Familydollar.com, Homedepot.com, Jcpenny.com, Kmart.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, Michaels.com, Newegg.com, Officedepot.com, Oreillyauto.com, Pepboys.com, Petco.com, Petsmart.com, Sears.com, SportsAuthority.com, Staples.com, Target.com, Tigerdirect.com, Toysrus.com, Walgreens.com, Walmart.com. A special notice: Third party resellers appearing on these sites are NOT included.

Again, PMs for items 50% off or more require CSM or supervisor approval. If the deal is against policy in any way, shape, or form or the store simply cannot verify it as an "identical deal", CSM or supervisors may deny the PM.

What if I forget to PM my items at the register? Or, the cashier refuses to honor my PM?

If you forget to PM at checkout or you have a PM refused, you may submit your receipt to Savings Catcher. If the PM is considered a valid PM scenario, then you will receive a Walmart eGC refund of the difference between Walmart's price and the competitor's advertised price.

Please know due to Savings Catcher updates deli, meat, produce, and bakery will not be caught. In addition, Savings Catcher will not catch the deal if the local retailer is not among the area's top retailers or is a drugstore [e.g. CVS, Walgreens, RiteAid, Freds, Fruth, etc.]. Those deals must be done at the register.

To learn more about Savings Catcher, visit https://savingscatcher.walmart.com/faq. You can also submit to Savings Catcher after PMing at the register to ensure you have captured the most possible savings you can.

Can I return purchases if I forgot to use my coupon?
Technically, Walmart does not have to permit this, but many stores will let you return the item in question and repurchase it with the coupon. But you must physically return the item to the store, along with the receipt, present your ID, and bring your coupon too. However, if you use WIC or SNAP to purchase your items, then this is not permitted per Walmart's Return policy.

See Walmart's Return Policy posted earlier.

Can I PM online at Walmart.com?

Yes, you can still PM if purchasing via Walmart.com. In order to PM via Walmart.com, you must contact Walmart.com Customer Care (help.walmart.com) prior to placing your order on Walmart.com. The Customer Care Agent will verify the PM information and ensure it meets Walmart's PM guidelines.

If it does, your PM will be processed. If it does not, there is nothing else you can do as the Customer Care Agent has the final decision for matching an online price. Sorry, Savings Catcher only works for in store purchases.

Does Walmart combine PMs with MQs?

Yes, most stores will accept a PM and a MQ on the same items in the same transaction. However, this really depends on whether the competitor selling the item at the advertised price would also accept the MQ.
- For example, Aldi does not accept coupons and therefore, if you price match Aldi you may not combine this PM with a MQ.
- However, you may PM Kroger's loyalty card ad price and combine it with your own MQ at Walmart.
- You may also combine a STORE coupon in-ad price that meets the criteria for ad matching and combine it with a MQ at Walmart.
The easiest way to think of this is Walmart matches "identical deals". If the competitor was selling at that price and permitted the additional coupon then Walmart wants to be able to offer you that same deal at Walmart.

Most of the time, yes you can PM and use a coupon on the same item.
In reality, due to increasing deal complexities and competitor differences on how they permit deals, it has been left to store management's discretion:
-> If you PM a store that does NOT accept MQs, then usually you may NOT also use a coupon. Some managers will still permit this though.
-> If you are PMing a price that is 'after store coupon/digital discount' it will be up to the store manager's discretion to also accept the coupon.
-> If you PM an online price it will be the store manager's discretion whether they accept the coupon.
-> Since February 2015, it is now store manager's discretion whether they will accept a PM from drugstores.
-> Since April 2015, if the combined discount of the PM and the coupon is more than 50% off Walmart's Everyday Low Price [this includes producing overage], store management is permitted to offer you only one of the discounts (PM or coupon). If your store only permits one, use your coupons and submit to Savings Catcher to get the PM difference back. Note: If the deal is from a drugstore it will no longer be caught by Savings Catcher.

You'll notice there is a lot more room for store management to deny the combination of coupons and price matching.

Does Walmart combine PMs with Competitor Coupons?

No. Walmart does not combine PMs with Competitor Coupons. In ad store coupons with a specified price and ad prices are both processed as PMing and must meet the same criteria. Therefore, you must choose which "ad" you wish to PM.

How does Walmart handle BOGO Free PMs and MQs?

Usually, Walmart does NOT combine a BOGO Free PM with a BOGO Free MQ to get 2 items free, as it considers this a situation of no purchase needed. What Walmart does for BOGO deals is calculate a percentage of the sales price and make that the new price for each item.

If you are going to PM BOGO deals, do the math for the cashier and know what they should enter as the amount for each item. These can only be PMs if the sales price is stated in the ad.

B1G1 Free Sale = .500 of sales price for each item; must buy 2
B1G2 Free Sale = .333 of sales price for each item; must buy 3
B1G3 Free Sale = .250 of sales price for each item; must buy 4
B1G4 Free Sale = .200 of sales price for each item; must buy 5
B1G5 Free Sale = .166 of sales price for each item; must buy 6

B2G1 Free Sale = .666 of sales price for each item; must buy 3
B2G2 Free Sale = .500 of sales price for each item; must buy 4
B2G3 Free Sale = .400 of sales price for each item; must buy 5
B2G4 Free Sale = .333 of sales price for each item; must buy 6
B2G5 Free Sale = .285 of sales price for each item; must buy 7

B3G1 Free Sale = .750 of sales price for each item; must buy 4
B3G2 Free Sale = .600 of sales price for each item; must buy 5
B3G3 Free Sale = .500 of sales price for each item; must buy 6
B3G4 Free Sale = .428 of sales price for each item; must buy 7
B3G5 Free Sale = .375 of sales price for each item; must buy 8

B4G1 Free Sale = .800 of sales price for each item; must buy 5
B4G2 Free Sale = .666 of sales price for each item; must buy 6
B4G3 Free Sale = .571 of sales price for each item; must buy 7
B4G4 Free Sale = .500 of sales price for each item; must buy 8
B4G5 Free Sale = .444 of sales price for each item; must buy 9

B5G1 Free Sale = .833 of sales price for each item; must buy 6
B5G2 Free Sale = .714 of sales price for each item; must buy 7
B5G3 Free Sale = .625 of sales price for each item; must buy 8
B5G4 Free Sale = .555 of sales price for each item; must buy 9
B5G5 Free Sale = .500 of sales price for each item; must buy 10

B1G50%Off Sale = .750 of sales price for each item; must buy 2

Usually, you are then free to add your MQs to these sales prices.
Please note: if the MQs on each item ends up producing overage or makes the items free, your store may not permit this.
Some stores may only accept one discount (coupons or PM) be applied per item.

Special notice: If your store ends up entering a BOGO sale as an item costs $0 you can guarantee you will not be permitted to use a coupon on the "free" item(s).

What about the smartphone mobile rebate apps? Do those work at Walmart?

There are several smartphone apps that require you to take a picture of your Walmart receipt and submit online. Please realize you must download the app, upload a picture of your receipt, and follow the submission guidelines for these rebates.

These rebate apps work with Walmart receipts:

-> Ibotta – (ibotta.com). Each week a new list of qualifying items are released. If you buy a qualifying item in the designated week, you will be asked to do something to “earn” the rebate, e.g. watch a commercial or answer a survey. In return you will get a rebate refunded to you after you have earned $10.

-> Checkout 51 – (checkout51.com). Each week a new list of qualifying items are released. If you buy a qualifying item in the designated week, you will be asked to do something to “earn” the rebate. In return you will get a rebate refunded to you. *This one also works from a desktop computer.

-> SavingStar – (savingstar.com). Each week you load the eQs to your account. If you buy a qualifying item before the expiration date, you take a pic of Walmart receipt. In return you will get a rebate refunded to you, after you have earned $10 or more. Fridays there are "freebies" to load and you have until Sunday night to purchase and upload your pic.

-> Shopmium – (shopmium.com) Each week there are new offers, but in order to unlock the deals, you need a referral code. If you connect it to your PayPal account, you'll receive your rebate just as soon as it is verified.

-> Receipt Hog – (receipthog.com) You take a pic of every receipt you get, in return you get to spin a roulette wheel for chances to win money and prizes.

-> Snap by Groupon - (snap.groupon.com). Each week a new list of qualifying items are released. If you buy a qualifying item or items in a designated week, you submit your receipt. The differences are: 1) you can redeem multiple offers on each receipt; 2) You can use Snap on a Smartphone, Tablet, or Desktop; and 3) Receipts must be uploaded within 2 days of purchase.

What is Savings Catcher?

Walmart Savings Catcher is Walmart's savings app. After making your in-store purchases at Walmart, go to Savings Catcher and enter the TC # & date found at the bottom of your receipt. Note: You'll need to login to your walmart.com account. Walmart Savings Catcher will compare the amount paid for each eligible item on your receipt with advertised prices at other stores in your area. If ANY item was advertised at a lower price at a competitor’s store in your area, Walmart will match that competitor's price and give you the difference in a Walmart eGift Card or you can add it to your Bluebird American Express card!

Savings Catcher compares identical items based on an item’s Universal Product Code (UPC). In addition, these items must be identical in size, weight, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc. – even if they share the same UPC – in order to be compared.

Savings Catcher does not compare the following offers:
-> Items that require a separate purchase to get the advertised price (example: “Buy oatmeal to get cereal for $1.”)
-> Items with no actual price that require a purchase to get a free product (example: “Buy cereal to get milk for free.”)
-> Items that require a purchase to get a gift card (example: “Buy a 12 pack of paper towels to get a $5 gift card.”)
-> Buy one get one free (BOGO) deals where no item price is listed (example: Peter Pan Peanut Butter, buy one, get one free. Save up to $2.50.”)
-> Going out of business or closeout prices.
-> Prices inclusive of rebates
-> Percentage off (example: “All mascara, 40% off.)
-> Items placed on layaway are not eligible for Savings Catcher.
-> Deals listed as available with a clearly stated manufacturer’s coupon, “on pack coupon,” or “coupon commonly found in Sunday newspaper” are not eligible for Savings Catcher.

Savings Catcher currently does NOT apply to:
-> Any food, consumables, or health & wellness items that do not meet the eligibility criteria
-> Produce
-> Bakery
-> Variable weight meat
-> Deli
-> Seafood
-> General merchandise items including, but not limited to, outdoor living consumables (such as such as fertilizer and bug spray), office supplies, apparel, DVD’s, electronics, CD and gaming media, toys, housewares, small appliances, sporting goods, home décor, bedding, books and magazines, shoes, jewelry, furniture and seasonal products
-> Non-branded items
-> Tobacco, alcohol, firearms, gasoline, tires, prescription drugs, optical and photo products and services, or products that require a service agreement such as wireless, automotive or financial products

You can submit up to 7 receipts per week to Savings Catcher.

Be sure to go to https://savingscatcher.walmart.com/faq to see a list of FAQ’s on the Savings Catcher program.

Savings Catcher is only catching nationally recognized competitors. Please realize Savings Catcher does not catch local stores, drugstores, seasonal flyers, or when flyer ad dates overlap.

What is Favado? Will Walmart PM the price found by Favado? Can I use Favado to PM?

Favado is a smartphone mobile app that searches for the deals and sales prices. It displays in-store and advertised sales prices for stores near you. You can use it to find which stores to shop at for items on your grocery list.

Favado should not be used as an ad matching/price matching tool, since it does not tell you whether the item is in the current ad or not. In addition, Favado acknowledges the displayed sales price within their app may not match your actual stores shelf price due to regional ad variations.

What is Flipp? Will Walmart PM the price found by Flipp? Can I use Flipp to PM?

Flipp is a smartphone mobile app that displays local sales flyers and calls itself a retail flyer aggregator. It only displays advertised sales prices for stores near you, and the zip code you provide it to search near. You can find which stores have what items on sale every day.

Flipp may be used as an ad matching/price matching tool, since it does actually display items in current ads near your location. However, just showing the item on your phone will not be enough to get the PM at the register, since you can change the zip code and location within the app.

What is MyGroceryDeals? Will Walmart PM the price found by MyGroceryDeals? Can I use MyGroceryDeals to PM?

MyGroceryDeals is an online website and app that aggregates local sales flyers grocery ads. It only displays advertised sales prices for stores near you, but limits its deals to groceries only. You can find which stores have grocery items on sale every day.

MyGroceryDeals may be used as an ad matching/price matching tool, since it does display items in current ads near your location. However, you'll need to write down what you are price matching, because this app is limited to grocery deals only. Showing this app on your phone will not be enough to get the PM at the register since you can easily change to search any zip code or location.

In addition, ALL of these apps are known to have errors. Verify with the actual store ad before trusting the app. You will still be asked for the physical ad for an ad match and the actual online store website for an online price match.

Does Walmart have its own IPs?

Walmart really has its own link to Coupons.com IPs and a few unique Redeemable at Walmart IPs. You can find them at their Free Samples and Savings link.

Some blogs will recommend you print a faint or draft quality IP. This is not the case with Walmart. Make sure you are printing IPs you plan to use for Walmart in a 'high photo quality' black and white or color. Remember it must scan.

Walmart regularly releases ads, but they are not always weekly ads. You will find their Ads HERE. Just put in your zip code to find your local ad.

Walmart operates several GC exchange programs. What are they?

Gadgets to GCs -- Walmart is now doing electronic exchanges thanks to a partnership with CExchange. You can trade in used phones, tablets, video games, game consoles, cameras, e-readers, MP3 players, and GPS devices. In exchange you will receive a Walmart eGC. See the info at https://walmart.cexchange.com/online/home/index.rails

GCs to Walmart GCs -- Walmart in cooperation with CardCash will exchange your GC for a Walmart GC. Go to https://walmart.cardcash.com and follow the steps listed below:

Step 1) ~ Get an offer. Enter merchant name and card balance for a quick exchange offer. In seconds, see how much you can get in exchange for your gift card! Get up to 97% of the face value when exchanging for a Walmart eGiftCard.

Step 2) ~ Enter info. Enter card number and pin and some basic customer information. Once your order is placed, your card balance will be verified behind the scenes to ensure the fastest and most secure process possible.

Step 3) ~ Receive GC. Your eGift Card will be emailed to you in a printable format once your order has been approved. Approval time generally takes 1-2 hours but can take up to 24 hours.

Redeem your Walmart eGift Card at Walmart.com, Samsclub.com, Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets, and Sam’s Club.

The CSM was called over and won't approve my transaction. What can I do?

The only thing you can do is ask to speak with the store manager. Store managers have the final decision. If the store manager is not available, take down the CSMs name, date, time, and report the issue [including the Store Mgr was not available] via email or phone.

How do I escalate an issue at Walmart?

Step 1: Customer Service Manager or Assistant Manager
At the store, request the Customer Service Manager (CSM) or Assistant Manager (AM).
Usually there is a CSM or AM floating around that can resolve most issues.

Step 2: Store Manager
At the store, request to speak to the store manager.
Tell your store manager exactly what happened and who was involved.
If your store manager is unavailable, go to the Walmart website, find your store and call or email the store manager.

Step 3: Corporate Customer Relations
Now, is the time when you contact Corporate Customer Service.
Walmart’s customer service number is 800-WALMART or you can email them.
Remember to be succinct, precise, provide the names of the individuals involved and who you've spoken to.
If you want to involve Corporate Headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas their phone number is (479) 273-4000.

That should do it.

Why won't my store...? Complaints?

Walmart is a large corporation and has multiple store formats, including Neighborhood Markets, SuperCenters, Walmart.com, and Sams Club. Walmart employs over 2 million employees and is the largest private employer in the world. While Walmart hopes you are a cost focused shopper and have a good experience, it can only address issues reported.

If you have a complaint about a specific Walmart store, please tell Walmart directly. You can report the issue at: Store Feedback. Or call Walmart Customer Service 1-800-WALMART (1-800-925-6278). Walmart is the only one who has the power to make your Walmart a better store.

But, if you just want to commiserate, rant, or gripe about your shopping experiences, AFC has an entire forum dedicated to listening to complaints of all kinds called Gripes, Groans, and Rants.

How do I find my local Walmart store prices?

Visit Walmart.com by typing in Walmart.com in your browser or from a bookmark page.

At the top of the page you will see a Search box. You can type what you are looking for in the search box. If you only want to search specific departments, you would change the drop down arrow from “All” to the specific department you want. You can click the Magnifying glass to search or press Enter.

Your initial search results will display, but you will be able to refine and narrow the search. You’ll notice you can refine your search based on price, brands, and store availability. You can also change the Sort precedence from Best Match to Price: low to high.

If it is a standard nationwide priced item, you’ll get the Walmart.com price. *Some stores may have the item priced lower due to local competitors.
However if you see something that states “In stores only” you must click the product link to find your local store price.

Now, you can see the price of the item at your local store. It bases the local store on the IP address of your computer. However, you may have a store closer than the store nearest to your IP.

If you click on the in-store purchase only you will be able to see the store availability and change the zip code you wish to search.

What are $0.88 items? Where do I find them?

$0.88 items are generic items Walmart carries for all sorts of items.

There are a ton of items for $0.88!
I have seen items like gummy vitamins, aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, pregnancy tests, energy shots, antibiotic ointment, anti itch cream, and others in the medicine aisles. You can also find hair bands, elastic headbands, shampoo, conditioner in the heath and beauty aisles. There are also hot dog buns, hamburger buns, spices, and other generic grocery items.

Remember to be on the lookout for these cheap generic items when you need an item and there are no sales on what you need.

How can I contribute to the Walmart forum?

There are several ways you can contribute to the Walmart main forum and sub-forums.

-> Share IP deals in the main forum. Post a deal using an Internet Printable for any item sold at Walmart. You do not have to provide the actual link, just the address to the IP. These are unadvertised deals, so your shopping experience and local prices is greatly appreciated. If you notice an IP is gone, post the IP is gone so it can be updated.

-> In the weekly coupon match-ups thread if you see an MQ is a good deal and is missing, please post in that week's thread. As the FL, I transfer the weekly match-ups to the Older MQs deal by expiration date so it can remain there until the coupon expires.

-> Share Rebate App deals in the main forum. Please share any deal that is current for Ibotta, Checkout51, SavingStar, Snap by Group, etc. in the main forum. Some offers are regional and based on your shopping experience with the app.

-> Share advertised deals and regional ad differences. Sometimes Walmart puts out a different ad for different regions. If you see your local ad varies greatly from the ad posted, please share that information in the Advertised Deals thread.

-> Share good and great Walmart shopping experiences in the My Trip sub-forum. While some may want to share their negative experiences, the Gripes, Rants and Groans sub-forum is the proper place for that here on AFC.

-> Share ad match and price match deals in the Ad Match/Price Match Deals sub-forum. Make sure you state the store name and dates of the ad. You can include coupon match-ups, but don't let that stop you from sharing. Many of us will pick up good price matches even if we do not have a coupon.

-> Share your experiences with Savings Catcher and the Walmart App in the Ad Match/Price Match Deals sub-forum. There is a thread specifically for Savings Catcher, but you can post anywhere in that sub-forum.

-> Clearance deals can be posted under My Trips or the main forum. If you provide the state in which the clearance was found, it will benefit the most shoppers as most clearance pricing is regional.

-> Ask questions in the main forum. Ask any question you have in the main forum. Please realize you may be referred back here to the Walmart FAQs thread if it is a commonly asked question.

OK, I hope that answers most of your questions. I'll continue to update these FAQs as questions, comments, and items appear on the boards.
