| OMG! Me TOO!!! I have kids who will use tape instead of glue sticks unless I hide it from them. I had TWELVE rolls of scotch tape (or store brand, etc) in August and could only find TWO rolls by Christmas time, dang kids! ;p

I am the OP and have heard this about all supplies. Just the lil crayons and art supply around the house somehow gets lost in the black hole . I also wrote in the a second response on the first page that I wrote crayola and got (13) $2 off qs so i'm hoping to stock up. Tape is also a good idea for the holidays TIA All so much You all should write crayola and tell them how cool they are but DONT ASK FOR COUPONS!! All i said was i love their product and would like to continue using them so sign me up for future promtions. I mentioned it to a couple a ppl on another blog and ppl have gotten back qs in 4 days like me |

I have just started to stockpile and have some garage space. What school supplies would be ok to store in the garage? ( 110 degree heat - 20 degrees in the winter)

Whoever said about the binder paper - I was beginning to think the kids were eating it! I bought 10 packs last year for two kids and they went through them. We lost one pack when DS backpack was stolen the first week of classes :/ I also learned years ago the more they know I have the more they use! So for them I got one of those 7 drawer carts on wheels and it is perfect. The rest stays hidden away! |

Notebooks go on sale at Walmart every year. 5 years ago they were a nickel . . . Now they are 15 cents for 70 pages, college or wide ruled. My hubby is a 3rd grade teacher in an urban school and we buy at least 150 of these a year. Target will also have them cheap for a week. We got a few from Staples and Office Max, but we hit the mother lode at Walmart. They are not always marked but check the 70 page ones. There's nothing worse than spending $3 for a notebook that was 15 cents in July . . . Also, if any of you are teachers, Staples will allow you to buy 25 loss leader items instead of the limit of 1 or 5. |

| They would not when I did the PM last year but YMMV, so I would suggest you ask when you have to make a trip to walmart and make sure you bring an ad so they know what you are talking about.

Staples is your friend.... they have penny sales on sunday and monday only- shop early and fast as the sales sell out (at least in my area) Walamrt does the glue for a quarter and crayons cheap as well. See if you can contact your kindergarten teacher to see what you will need to send in- that way you can get everything on sale. Toys R Us also does some good sales on back to school- they do give aways with purchase- not always the greatest, but they have a rewards card that gives you money off coupons and their verson of RRs. |

Also teachers get similar deals at Office Depot. You may have to sign up for some type of rewards card to get these deals but all teachers should definitely check it out. I wish we had a Staples close! |

I know that the backpacks get clearanced at toys r us in late september early october and there tends to be a lot left. I used to work at one- and we marked everything in school land down right before the costumes arrived, which was the 1st week of october. We needed the space- as all that stuff goes in the same area. Remember to check zippers and snaps- you don't need a broken one from the start. |

Thanks for the advice my 3 yr old is going into Pre-K this year I know she won't need much, but I wanted to get stocking up before the school year starts which is Sept 5th for us. And besides can't have too much school supplies sitting around. Its not like they go to waste. ![]() ![]()

Last year I found tons of clearance after school started at Target. Binder paper and composition books for 5 cents each, I was able to stock myself up and buy enough for all of the kids in my son's class. His teacher (young and just starting out) was so thrilled! I think I paid a total of $5 for all of it. The cashier was amazed.

I have to laugh about all the disappearing paper...if your kids are like I was - there is A LOT of note passing happening!! |

Note passing is almost a thing of the past- at least on paper. Texting is the way notes are passed now.

My DS is going into 5th grade. I went so crazy with stocking up (every.single.year), especially when it all goes on clearance, that I never have to buy school supplies at full price. Walgreens always has some great deals, and I noticed recently that they've already started putting out their big displays of school supplies. Also, I've found great deals on filler paper at local grocery stores. Since this isn't an item that they sell alot of regularly, they will usually clearance it. I always hit Target for their clearance school supplies. I don't shop Walmart often (maybe once or twice a year) but I've read that they have good deals at the beginning of school. ETA: Walgreens has calendars with coupons in them. They have been on clearance for a while now, so hopefully you can still find some. These include coupons that are only good for certain periods of time (monthly, for the most part). But, they have Qs for some school supplies/art supplies in them. IIRC, they have Crayola and Mead Qs. Pair those with RRs and I haven't actually "paid" for school supplies out of pocket, just used my built up RRs, which counts, I guess... I always intentionally hold RRs and roll until the good school supply deals come along, and stock up. Last edited by 1littlemiracle; 06-24-2012 at 06:43 AM. |

I was in WalMart yesterday and they are already moving around the summer stuff (the cups/bowls/plates and pitcher and stuff they sell in summer prints) to clear out the long seasonal isle where the school supplies will be. Some things are already up. I didn't pick up anything or really look. I'm waiting for it all to be put out. Overage is great during back to school time. In 2009, the last time I really stocked up on school supplies, I used the overage from a flea product Q to get loose leaf paper and folders. I still have some of the paper left. $0.10 a pack for paper and $0.05 for folders is a great deal, especially if you have $3 or $4 of overage! I did find crayons in the regular isle yesterday for $0.25 a pack, but they weren't a name brand or anything. I picked up 4 packs anyway for my daughter. We have a while before school age begins, but I'm considering adopting a class room some time. Teacher pay out of pocket for a lot of their classroom supplies, so every little bit of extra can really help out.

yesterday at wal, mart there was a bunch of school supplies marked early. crayola markers, colored pencils $0.97 crayola 24 pk crayons is $0.50... i didnt look at anything else. we were there for colored pencils and sharpies. i hope the prices get better than that though. and i pray that staples/office max/ walgreens have great deals as i am still not off medical leave and have 3 in high school this year and a 7th grader... which means lots of notebooks, binders, folders, loose leaf paper, and pens and pencils.
