| Sorry, I guess?......
Went to Wal mart today to ad match some hot dogs. While browsing the store, I noticed they had smaller sized pantene bottles for $3.33. I picked up 8 of them, along with the hot dogs and went to the register. The cashier rang up my items, I then handed her my coupons (4 bogo pantene, and 2 $3/2 pantene). The cashier rang up the bogo coupons as vendor coupons, and then told me I could not use the $3/2 coupons at the same time. I asked her to call over a csm to verify (I find it hard to believe under trained cashiers). She didn't, and said she would allow it this time, and she could get in trouble (took this with a grain of sand, figured if it was wrong, she would have called over a csm to back her up). Took my items out to my vehicle, and decided to use some more of my pantene coupons. Before doing so, I went to customer service to verify that using the bogo with the $3/2 was ok. The csm explained to me that it was not ok according to state law. I then informed her that I had already done this, and asked to pay the $6 difference. She told me they could not fix "coupon mistakes", and that it would be a lesson for the cashier to pay more attention. I feel like a heel, I did wrong, admitted it, and tried to rectify the situation. I do not want to make couponers look bad or dis-honest, or to make myself look this way, but at the same time I asked for a csm when checking out. |

Does either coupon have wording prohibiting combining it with another coupon?

As long as you are not trying to use X amount off on the bogo one you are getting you are using them correctly as far as the manufacturers are concerned. I don't keep up with Walmarts store policy. If it does not say you can't in their policy, I do not see where anything was done wrong. I have a feeling there was some miscommunication between the store and corp. What was probably meant was that you cannot use another coupon for a bogo (meaning your free item). For instance if you would have tried to use the 4 bogo q's with 4 of the 3.00/2. That would be a no go.

I just looked at a $3/2 coupon and it clearly states: "limit one coupon per purchase of products and quantities stated." That would make it a no go to use two coupons on the same two products.

She bought 8 of the Pantene. She used 4 of the BOGO coupons making 4 bottles free. That still leave 4 bottles that are not free so the 2 coupons for $3/2 would be applied to those. It would be the same if she used 2 coupons for $1.50/1 wouldn't it?

A lot of stores aren't allowing the use of a $ off Q along with a BOGO anymore since the BOGO attaches to 2 items (the one she's buying and the one she's getting for free). In order to also use the $3/2, she'd need to buy a total of 12 Pantene..otherwise, she'd be stacking. And that's a nono. Now, some stores still allow this...but that number is getting smaller and smaller.

If the coupon would have been $3/1 it would be allowed and ok, but not when it is for 2.

I would understand this if she were only buying 1 set. IE: One "Buy One" and one "Get One Free", Because the Q for $3/2 could not attach to the "Get One Free" item. However, she was Buying 4 sets. Four "Buy Ones" along with 4 "Get One Free". The 4 "Buy Ones" are not attached to any cents off coupon. So using 2 coupons for $3/2 would attach to the 4 items that have not been attached by the BOGO coupons. So if it is ok to use ONE BOGO & ONE cents off/1 coupon to buy 2 items, why is it not OK to use 2 BOGO & ONE cents off/2 coupon when you are buying 4 items? You are still buying the required amounts.

Using a bogo and a $/x coupon shouldn't be combined because it would be the same as using a $/2 coupon with a $/1 coupon and only getting 2 items. The bogo is to be used on 2 items and most have some kind of wording saying that you can't use another coupon ON TOP of the bogo. You can get 3 items, use one bogo and one $/1 coupon.

I used my $3/2 Qs along with BOGO Qs for Pantene several times. I would buy 4 items & use (2) BOGO to give me 2 free and then use (1) $3/2 towards the other 2 bottles. This is perfectly legal and went through just fine.

This is allowed per the coupon guidelines HOWEVER some stores policies prohibit this. Walmart DOES allow this although not all CSM's know their policies.

but ^this^ is correct. As I stated above, these particular coupons have verbiage that specifically prohibits using more than one coupon on the same set of items.

I don't think this is wrong. I drew out a diagram to show what Qs are associated with what products and I don't see the issue with it. Since she used two BOGOs I used "F" to stand for the free products and "P" to stand for the ones paid for. http://tinypic.com/r/2iizmts/6

| The way I interpret it, the $3/2 is being used on the items that are being PAID for. You're not using a BOGO for the same ones that you're using the $3/2, you're just using those products to fulfill the requirement that you buy one to get one free.

To add to the confusion, in the past, BOGO coupons attached ONLY to the free item thereby allowing use of $x/1 on the qualifier (the item paid for to get the other free); but sometime in 2010, two versions of BOGO started to come out with slightly different numbers in the barcode to indicate which ones allowed the use of x/1 on the qualifier with the BOGO MQ attaching only to the free item; the other version prohibited the use of x/1 coupons on the qualifier since the BOGO MQ attach to TWO items ~ the qualifier and the free item, thereby using x/1 coupon for the qualifier will be stacking discounts. with the advent of GS-125 barcodes, coding allegedly became more specific and this is where I think debates of proper use of the BOGO MQ and x/1 or x/2 coupons are coming from.

| me too I know i feel you ladies, im on the same page. Just becasue a coupon goes thru does not mean its being used right. When the coupon CLEARLY states that you can not do this, i mean come on really.........it clearly states it cannot be done, wether it makes the deal better for you. anyways people will do what they think is ok... until companies get so strict that coupons stop for us all. That will be a sad day! |

Whoa... this is so confusing! I haven't seen the exact coupons that we're talking about here. I've never seen a BOGO coupon that specifically says that you can't use a coupon on the item that you paid for. If this coupon says that, then clearly doing so wouldn't be right and I would stand corrected for this scenario.
