| PM Suggestion at Walmart
I'm sure lots of you already thought of this, but I figured I would throw it out there. I PM at Walmart every week. Usually 3 or 4 different stores ads. Personally, I was having a heck of a time at the register, by myself, unloading the cart, and keeping track of the price matches. So I used a coupon (duh!) and picked up some post-it notes. When I find the item in the store, I write on it the PM price and the store I'm matching, then stick it on the item, over the UPC if I can. Then when I unload the cart, I let the cashier know that all the price matches have sticky notes. I try to face them toward the cashier when unloading. The cashiers seem to LOVE this. It puts them in a good mood and I have one less thing to organize at the register.

I've been curious about walmarts policies. I know they price match but do they price match on sales? And will they do anything about b1g1 ads from other stores?

Yes, they will ad match b1g1 sales as long as there is a price for the item listed, for example: B1 16 oz. package of Bar S hot dogs @$0.79 get one free. If the ad just says B1 16 oz. package of Bar S hot dogs get one free, they will not honor. |

I too use the post it method and the cashiers love it! Makes it less hassle for both of us.

They will price match from another stores AD. Not internet pricing, must be in the weekly ad. However, you are not required to have the ad with you. The store you are matching must be in the same vicinity as your Walmart. So you can't match a Meijer if your city doesn't have one of these stores. So if something is on sale 10 for $10 at another store, you can price match that for $1. You CAN also use a manufactures coupon with a price match. (example) So if you price match that butter for $1.00, you CAN also use your $.50 coupon on top of that. My particular Walmart will accept Target coupons as a price match. So if Target has a coupon for $.50 off butter, Walmart will take $.50 off their price, PLUS accept a MQ on top of that. If you wish to match a store's generic brand, i.e. Nice from Walgreens, you can match it to Walmart's generic brand. I do this all the time. So Walgreen's had Nice spices for $.79, I found the generics at Walmart and got them for the same price. What DON'T they do...they will NOT match BOGO, or any type of percentage off sales. So a "buy one get another 50% off" is a no go. I'm sure there is more that I don't know. My suggestion is to print the policy from their website, go to the customer service counter in your store and go over it with them. That way you shouldn't have a hassle at the register.

Hi. I read through Walmart's price match policy and it says that they do not honor competitors' private label price promotions. I know that they do at Country Girl's store, but watch out because they probably won't everywhere.

How do they price match w/o an ad? How do they know what the price is? Just wondering, do they have it in the system somewhere or are they just taking your word for it? The reason I ask is because, I have only priced matched once and it was when I had the competetors ad with me. However on another trip, years ago, I bought milk and the cashier said, you saved money on your milk because so and so has it for a cheaper price. Which was quite nice of him because I had no clue. But how did he know this? Did he just remember it from another transaction and key it in manually or did the system automatically match the other price? Thanks in advance for helpful replies. |

Regarding having the ads with you to price match; here is the section of Walmart's policy that deal with that: *The following are guidelines and limitations: * We will match any local competitor's advertised price. * We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor's ad. * Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.) When this policy came out I printed it and put it in the back of my coupon binder. When they first started ad matching I will admit there were some issues with the cashiers on this. Whenever there was an issue, I smiled asked when the policy had changed and pulled out my copy of their policy. I never got mad, just asked nicely. Then I got lucky one day. I was shopping with my binder open and a man came up and introduced himself as the store manager. We talked for about 30 minutes and one of the issues I brought up was the cashiers asking for the ads. It's never happened again. Whenever I post here, I ALWAYS suggest you go to your customer service desk and ask what your specific store policy is as stores are handling these things differently. It might also be a great chance to get to know your stores management!

Thank you for your time and such a great answer. After posting this question I read a REALLY long thread about PMing at Walmart and realized that they are supose to have the ads from competors at the CSM stand and that this is how they know what other ads are. My WM is ridicoulsly(!!!!!) understaffed. I live in Western Oklahoma where there are alot of really high paying (oilfield) jobs and so NO ONE wants to work at WM (or any other entry lvl position for that matter.) So there is almost zero cases where I would even attempt to PM there. Two lanes are open max at any given time and, although it is a "small" town, the store is litterally jam packed all the time. It is probably the perfect storm for a couponer, the cashiers never know what they are doing as a result of poor training, and would likely give anything at any price just to keep the line moving. Lol. But I have enough trouble getting in and out w/o using coupons and could only imagine the headache it would be to try pming there. |

candycane_76053 ~ I was told that the cashiers were supposed to have the ads at the registers. But the store manager told me that there was some issue with the local paper. Either corporate didn't want to pay for the papers, or our local paper didn't want to give them to Walmart, I wasn't clear. Either way, my store doesn't have them at the registers.

My Walmart never asks to see the ad anymore. I had a teller tell me one time that if the item is PM at 50% less than their price then they are required to see the ad. I keep alittle notebook with me that I have the prices with the Store written down. When loading my items to the belt, I seperate what I am PM'ing to the rear of the belt. Then when they get to those items, WALLA, I tell them what I want to pay I keep my ads with me just in case, but very seldom have to show them to the cashier. HTH!

I wish the cashiers at my walmart knew the policy... usually when I try to price match without an ad they have no idea and have to call over the manager/shift supervisor to confirm. if it went as smoothly as yours I would shop at my walmart much more often...I don't have a car so it would be so much easier to just get most of my shopping done in 1 store.

WalMart DOES price match buy one get one free sales but only if the price is included in the ad. WM will NOT honor the price if the ad just says "buy one get one free."

Also, I was in Walmart last week and the cashier was talking about the post-it notes. She said she also has customers who write on each product with a sharpie. Certainly cheaper than the post-its, but her concern was that if there was an issue and the customer decided they didn't want the product, then it would have writing on it. Just another idea.

You are not required to bring the ads with you. It is the stores resonpsiblity to provide the ads. At my store you can find them at the CSM podium and usually at the customer service desk too. I also seperate my PM items and put them in the back of the belt. I also try to keep my PM items together in my cart too, this makes it easier to load onto the belt.
