Update on Scanning Issues

Well today I called the Regional Manager back as she hadn't gotten back to me yet and this is what she told me.
She has spoken with the home office and it is a field issue, Imagine this....its a software update that needs to be done. We already knew this.
She also told me that she would let them know that it is ok to key in the coupons that beep or scan without taking the price off. So yay I have her phone number and I will go in next week during the day when she will be in her office so that I can try it out and hopefully if there is an issue they will call her and this will FINALLY be taken care of!!!!!

I can imagine they would have to shut down all teh registers to do any type of software updates- and with walmart being open 24 hours exept certain holidays- it may be awhile before all stores are up to date nation wise? that may explain why some walmarts are having issues with the new barcodes.

Most stores from my experience do updates every night at 12 for the 24 hour stores.

Oh this would never be a problem in the Wally World's in my area since they have 42 registers and about 4 of them being used at any given time So they could just update 38 at one time then tell those 4 cashiers to switch and update the last 4

If its coupons on cattalina's website its issues with their coupons they are issuing ! I tried using the cereal coupons at Meijer and they kept coming up as not found and I emailed them and that's what they told me !

This is interesting as I'm a csm at a local Walmart and a couponer but couldn't figure out why my coupons are not scanning. Some of our customers have had the same problem. I tell them that as long as it has all of the stuff printed coupons are supposed to have then hand key them. The cashier can input them manually and we still get our money back. Thanks for this thread as now I can inquire more about this.

New coupons coming out, whether inserts or IPs have the GS1 barcodes and most retailers who have not upgraded their system cannot 'read' the new barcodes. It was suppose to be an industry mandate for all retailers to upgrade their system by end of June 30,2011 but it seems like majority haven't completed the upgrade yet.

It is not only WM's POS, other retailers are having the same issues. Problems arise with retailers like WM who have a policy that they won't accept non scanning coupons, especially IPs (which is understandable, due to widespread fake/copied IPs). Other stores have the same policy and it is frustrating when couponers can't use any of their IPs that won't scan and management won't budge to take them as vendor coupons.

Hopefully, most retailers upgrade their system to solve the problem.

I would suggest that everyone call their regional managers/district managers. I posted this a long time ago that in fact it does not say that they cant accept coupons if it doesnt scan. That line in the policy just says that it must have a scannable bar code, many stores "interpret" that to mean it must scan. That is not true at all. But lots of people on here said that I was wrong, thats its against policy for them to take it...yada yada yada, when in fact I spoke to someone at Corp about this issue many months ago...the store is mis-interpreting that sentence. Since then I have never had an issue with coupons that dont scan...etc. Just because someone says thats how it is, it doesnt make it true. I know Walmart is supposed to take coupons that dont scan...as long as it has the right code and is verified by the cashier as being the right product they are supposed to push it though.

These new coupons do scan, they just not with the hand scanner, they have to scan them across the counter.

At my store they don't scan with either scanner other than to beep and take nothing off
