overage question

I'm trying to do the $2 off 2 expo markers and it gives me a 2cent overage.
i have 4 coupons so 8 cents overage

but my total after tax is still like 40 cents with the overage 32 or something
does that sound right. i just feel like when i hear overage i should be getting paid. idkkk

Yes that sound accurate. It depends on where you live. You still have to pay the taxes even though the item was free/mm.

This all depends on how your state taxes. My state taxes before coupons, so if the item is 1.89 and I hand over a $2 coupon I am still getting charged tax on the 1.89 which may be more then .11 (the amount of overage from the coupon). Some states charge tax after coupons, which makes for a TRUE moneymaker while other states have no tax at all.
For example - I go in and buy (4) Cascade trial sizes @ .97 each making my total 3.88
I hand over (4) 1/1 Coupons making my subtotal before tax -0.12
my tax is calculated on the 3.88, so 6.875% of 3.88 is .27 so I end up paying .15 for my 4 cascades.
Make sense?

You still probably get taxed on pre coupon amount so 2 cents overage on every 2 leaves a lot of tax left. So your total sounds fine.

When we moved from PA to TX my jaw nearly dropped on the sales tax. In PA it was 6% on "non-essentials".

We roll into TX in our town it is 8.25% on nearly everything. Kind of negates the lack of income taxes.
