Question about Walmart honoring shelf price tags...

I don't know if anyone knows the policy on this or not but...

My husband and I were looking at tents a week or so ago at Walmart. We were looking at this tent

Ozark Trail 6-Person Tent, 12' x 8' - Walmart.com

for $54 and trying to decide whether or not we were going to buy it. I then happened to notice that this tent

Ozark Trail Extra-Large Tent, Sleeps 10 - Walmart.com

(which is priced at $114) was in with the $54 tents with a price tag right smack beneath it. I told my husband that as far as I knew Walmart would honor anything that was priced wrong so I went and got an asst manager. She came and looked at it and told me that one of their employees put it there because it was overstock run-off from the shelf above. I asked her about honoring the price and she said she would have to clear it with the general manager because it was such a big price difference. She came back to us about 15 minutes later and said no, that they cannot honor a price that is that much lower and reached over and took the price tag off the shelf and bid us good day! Sooooo, my question is, is there some kind of limit on how much price difference there can be on honoring a mis-priced item? I can't seem to find the policy...

I wouldn't expect anyone to sell a $114 item for $54. The item wasn't mispriced, it was in the wrong spot. Customers frequently pick things up and then leave them wherever. A $100 GPS system may end up on the trash bag shelf with an $8 price under it.

This was a very big item though and the employee told me that an employee placed it there because it was overstock. I am just curious if anyone knows where the details of this policy are layed out on their website

I've had stores honor price tags only if the tag specifically listed that item. So if the tag said that the tent fell in the range the price tag listed, then they have to honor it. But if for instance in your case a tent that holds 10 is in a location that the tags says sleeps 4, then it would be a no go.

honoring shelf tag means Item A is priced $x on the shelf and rings $y...they are supposed to give you the lower price, $x

it has nothing to do with Item B being on the shelf where Item A is supposed to be

...if that were the case, I'd tell them I found all my items on the dollar aisle

A While back I was at walmart and I noticed those pillow pets in a large bin with a Price above of 7.00. I bought one and at checkout they told me it was 19.99 and I told them where I found it and a manager went to look and they gave me the 7.00 price. Went back later and they were gone. If there were alot of these tents and no detailed price tag I would say yes they probaly should give it to u but if the price tag detailed which one was at that price no.

Christmas time last year there was a pallet of Christmas trees price $19.00 I said wow great price and picked it up. At the register the tree rang up $79.00 and I told the cashier that price was wrong. The manager came over walked me to the area and sure enough one of the employees put the wrong sign up and the manager said they had to honor it. Not sure if there is a written policy or not but it questionable.

I think it also varies by state law.

In Massachusetts they would have to honor if the label is right but the price is wrong or there is a bunch of like items in the wrong spot with a price and description. Kmart once gave me a 800 lbs. limit shelf for $20 because of that. I also once got a bunch of free aluminum foil pans because of their error.

I work at walmart and if there is a item that is very clearly marked a certain price, then it is walmarts policy to honor the marked price. Managers do have the right to say they will not honor the lower price, but it is good customer service to do so in my opinion.

I work at a grocery store and we only honor prices if, for example, a sign clearly posted up for 2/$5 that is from LAST WEEK but the item is no longer for sale. If an employee forgets to take the sign down then yes we have to honor it. Every time I go to WM there are things scattered around in the wrong spots thats why if Im only getting a few things i price check EVERYTHING at a price scanner. unless its very clearly marked

Was there more than one? And since she knew an employee placed it there and didn't remove the price tag they should've given it to you at that price regardless of the price difference.

Don't most of the shelf tags list the name of the item and UPC code? I think if the tag listed the 6 person tent and the 10 person tent was on the shelf then WM would be covered as far as "mislabeling".

I used to work at walmart and the stockers would do that all the time mostly the wouldn't honor. But if it was on an endcap with the other one a there were tons of both items then they would have to. This has happened to me on several occasions HTH
