Grocery shopping @ walmart vs Grocery stores

So question for the experienced Walmart folks.

I had gone to Super Walmart before for groceries (before getting into couponing) and did find better prices, BUT things were always out of stock. Then they pulled some items, and I stopped going.

Now they say that they've brought back a bunch of items that had been pulled off the shelves.

Our walmart does not double coupons at all so the chances of me getting an overage on something is low. Do you guys see a difference in savings? I mean, is it worth it when they don't double and our regular grocery stores do?

Do they give you a really hard time for using a ton of q's -- I've seen the price match problems but I'm just looking to use regular coupons...

TIA

Walmart is the only store in my small town where I live ,so I PC a lot rather than drive 30 miles to go to Kroger. Actually its easier for me to PC at Walmart I don't have to get the 10 items to get the sale price,I always take my ads with me,Walmart doesn't double but if you get your ads together with your Qs you can save money maynot be as good as some on here but if Walmart doesn't give me a hassell like the bigger stores unless I use 40 Qs in one visit then they call the CS over to ok it but I like PC at Walmart just have to have your sales all figured out & Qs ready & it usually works pretty good for me HTH!

Im lucky - the only grocery store in our area that did double stopped (damn Kroger...) so shopping at WM is a no brainer.

I have noticed a difference though. No longer needing to buy items I have stockpiled, price matching sales and of course coupons has reduced our bill from about $150 to $110. Not as much as others but thats huge to us and I am still pretty new so I hope to get that lower as I start to stockpile are more expensive items (soda, paper plates, trash bags).

Do you mean that Wal Mart will honor the Kroger Mega sale price without buying ten items, wow, if so, i have really been missing out. I just got in on the nivea deal at Kroger, lots and lots of Nivea but had to go in several trips as we can only use eight coupons at a time.

I think the answer is what store are you comfortable in? I have a Walmart and a Meijer right across the street from each other. While I like the new PM policy at Walmart, and it has certainly gotten me into their store, I still do grocery shopping across the street.

My biggest Walmart issue is the ads in the store. They remodeled my Walmart a couple of years ago and there is a screen running constant commercials on every other isle. I can't stand it. They are motion activated so if the store isn't busy it's quiet until you walk by and they it shouts a commercial at you. So, personally, I go in, get the best deals, and then go across the street. (probably not what Walmart was hoping for)

I will do a majority of my shopping at walmart. if there is a deal at a grocery store i want that i can't price match, then i will go there, otherwise for my basics its all walmart. now that i have started seriously couponing i find myself buying less and less there though, but this is partially due to changes in the price match policy (namely, not matching generic to generic and not being able to use competitor coupons that require x.xx purchase to get the sale price).

I personally do very little shopping at Wal-Mart. Really don't like the place.
But I'm lucky enough to have 3 other stores (Food Depot, Schnucks, Kroger) in town to choose from, 2 of which will double... plus an Aldi's and a Save A Lot.

My Walmart is nearly always cheaper than any other grocery stores in the area, even when you take doubled coupons into account. We have Giants that double and so I will buy some things there to get that perk, but even then Walmart usually has the better deal. The only time grocery stores have better deals than Walmart around here is if something is on a really good sale.

I use to shop at WM until I learned out to coupon 18 months ago and then I quit. However, since their policy change, I've started making trips again at least once a week. It's so much easier taking other ads, having more stocked items, and getting change back. Invariably CVS doesn't have the items in stock, and even though they're great about rain checks, it's not worth going for one or two of an item. Lately it's becoming more and more difficult to get things at Wags even though there's a lot around.

For me, shopping without coupons or with coupons usually will save me more money than going to another grocery store in my town. I do getter better product at my Wegmans but they are a tad more expensive. I usually visit all three stores for different reasons..

Wegmans is produce and meat
Tops is for stocking up and coupon deals
walmart is for general shopping.

I'm split on my wm decison. I use them and krogers. Lately we have had a shelf clearer at kroger's....they used to always have plenty of sale stuff in stock and all of a sudden no. I haven't seen reach floss in over a month and I've prob. been to kroger 10 x in that month. Crazy. Walmart seems to have things in stock when I got on saturday mornings around 8:30 am. It's not as crazy in there and I can stay calm since I'm still new. Just depends on the coupon and the deal for me.

I very seldom shop in WM. I do much better at Fry's with their double, triple, and sometimes quads. I am always telling my BFF I just can't shop in WM. She does not use Q's, so she shops in WM.

I love Walmart, I shop there 3-4 times a week, If I buy in large amounts I order my stuff and its there in 3 days. For the past 4 weeks I have never had to pay anything and always walk out with a gift card for my overage. I have regular cashiers that are great and know me by name. They have become friendlier and I do almost all my shopping there. We do have a Kroger but they are very rude and will only double 2 like coupons. Its not worth the hassle to me. I price match all my items and take in my ads. Walmart has been great

If you will check the price of walmart on regular price to other local grocery store. WM is $2 cheaper. I check that many times. Our kroger only doubles up to 50 cents so I only saved my 10-50 cents for kroger esp. when they are on sale.

I also am split on this. My Frys and Safeway both bump ALL MQs up to $1. Even a $0.10 = $1! So, if my mq if for anything less than $1 (AND on sale) I take it to one of the other stores. If the mq is for $1 or more, I usually take it to Walmart. I ONLY shopped at walmart until I started couponing.... now I find myself there less and less.

I'm quickly learning that to get the deals from CVS I will have to price match at WM. My CVS never has anything listed in the ads. And it's not shelf clearing either. Just a really crappy store.

OMH You sound like you live here

I went on a bit of a scout trip yesterday while looking to get some keys made and I did notice quite a few things cheaper...just that it being Sunday it was impossible to move around and a lot of stuff was out of stock. The thing is, though, that it's by a few cents which means with dbl q's at Wegmans or tops I'd make out better.

I think I'll need to make out 2 lists for q's...one for the WM trip with Q's $1 or more/general items/things not carried at Wegmans, and then another with the Q's that will double/produce for Wegmans.

Wow that's awesome!

Yeah, I'm a bit scared about couponing at Walmart. I will say that this one doesn't fill up until around 1:00 or so during the week so maybe couponing won't be so bad first thing in the morning.

Walmart

Like a few others I've found that walmart is still cheaper than coupon doubling at the grocery stores in my area. I do, however, do a bit of grocery shopping at Target but only when I have stackable coupons for those items and/or Target coupons that give me a better deal than buying from walmart. Occasionally if I find a super sale at Giant or Weiss that I also have a coupon for, I will go.
