Religion Walmart and competitor's coupons

I tried to use a Target coupon for $1.00 off Bounty Basic. This coupon had an expiration date and a scannable barcode. CSM said Walmart will not accept because it did not have what the price would be after the coupon printed on the coupon.

That's correct. They will not take a competitor q for $$ off, only ones that state a specific price. Think of it more like price matching, not using a competitor coupon like we are used to... HTH!

Has anyone tried the AmEx and gas cards offered at Publix as a PM at WM? They do state the price.

JStacklie,

Thank you so very much for providing this link for Walmart's Coupon Policy. I shop Walmart and some stores has no clue as to their own coupon policy this will be ever so helpful when shopping at at Walmart.

Does anyone know what Walmart's definition of competitor is? I live in a tiny town and the closest real competitor is about 25 miles away. So, could I PM with say a RiteAid ad from that far away? Obviously, there's no RiteAid in my town. Thanks in advance!

I don't know that they have a definition, but I think the general rule of thumb is 60 mile radius. If they ever argued it with me, I'd say, "If I'm willing to drive there for the deal and take my business away from Walmart, then that would be a competitor, right?"

Also, I think that any ads that come in your regional paper would be considered competitors... HTH!

As an example: There is a K-mart 45 miles from me. However, I do not get their ad in my regional paper, so I do not consider it a competitor for Walmart... HTH!

JStacklie, thanks for that info. We do get several circulars in the Sunday paper for two of the largest towns in our area...within 40 miles, and I would consider them competitors. I'm gonna give a shot anyway!

But no, they can't require you to have them, because they should have them. There is no way anyone could "abuse" it if they were doing their job and keeping their competitors sales handy. I am saying this as a former CSM.
Well the WM near me denied a price match because I didn't have the ad. One of the store managers actually told me that they typically WON'T PM at night because they have misplaced a lot of the ads throughout the day. I had the PM policy in my hand and showed it to, pointing out where it states that the customer is not required to have the ad. Her response was that people would abuse it and the customer is required to have the ad. She treated me like a criminal who was trying to scam the store. Also, how can you discriminate against people who shop at night? That's just ridiculous. I called and reported her behavior and am just waiting on someone to call me back about it.

dollkiss, that's just crazy! Their policy clearly states that they don't require you to have the ads, and the time of day/night you shop should be immaterial. Actually, they're not being as technologically efficient as I had imagined. I assumed (I know, I know ) that an employee entered local competitors' sale prices into a database which was in turn somehow accessed by the registers. Otherwise, it's such a hit and miss thing, isn't it? If they lose their hard copy, they're up a creek...or you are. But IMHO they're bound by their own policy, which says you do not need to bring the ads. Sheesh!

I know. I showed her the policy and she just said 'no, how am I supposed to know that you are telling the truth?" I told her that I was just going by the corporate policy and I thought that the stores would also follow the corporate policy. So apparently (at least at this store) if they (the store) misplace their copy of the ad, the customer is supposed to magically know that they need to drive out of their way to pick up an ad at the store that they wish to price match. (<---A little snarky, I know. It's just frustrating to have these unknown restrictions that don't make any sense to me. Seriously? I can't PM at night??) I'm hoping that when I get a call back, they will say that the manager was out of line with the policies she was making up. We shall see...

Their policy specifies that they will NOT PM a specific price after rr's, up's, ecb's, etc. They will only PM the price that you would actually pay for the item. Since the rr's, up's, ecb's, etc are oyno, WM will not PM the after oyno price.

I've actually had them give me the Kroger mega event pricing. The manager said that you had to buy the 10 items, just like at Krogers, but that it can be done. In the policy, though, it's pretty much saying they won't do that. Hmmm. Guess that's FMMV.

I was curious to see if they'd match store brand for store brand on things like bread, but it says they don't, I think. I know they allowed me to pm their brand of chicken when Foodland had their brand on sale.

They aren't supposed to PM store brand for store brand, but I've noticed that they still do it. I guess it a YMMV kind of thing.

I had the most interesting experience with this today. I bought some random things, and told my clerk I was PMing some stuff & set that at the end. I PMd bandaids, fixodent, etc..and Clean & Clear BW. She PM'd everything with no hesitation until she got to the BW & told me I'd need the ad for that. I always keep it very cordial, so I said actually no, it's not Walmart policy that I would need the ad with me to get the PM. She told me that if it were for groceries, I wouldn't need an ad, but for anything else I would. (I'm like what the crap lady, you just PMd a bunch of stuff that wasn't groceries without any problems and now you're hung up on 4 bottles of bw??) So I took out the printout of their policy, she calls over a CSM & he tells me the same thing; I need the ad. So I said ok, here's what I'll do..I'll just pay for this stuff, you can set the BW aside for now. I have Walmart Corporates # on my phone, so I'll just step aside and call them real quick so they can clear this up for us because one of us has been misinformed. He says all rudely; yah do that. call them.
So I go sit down & call corporate and they of course agree with me that I don't need the ad with me & tell me to just stay in the customer service area because the manager's on his way to speak with me. He was super nice, everyone in customer service was super nice, but they did not have their act together. First they started charging me $4.97 & .01, and I pointed out that actually the Wags ad stated $5.99, not $4.97 and I wanted to make sure that didn't make a difference. BOY DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!! The only way they can ring it up and follow all the rules with their system is to charge $4.97 for one and $1.02 for the other, which fine. But then they started to ramble on about how the PM free one would be for the $1.02 one and my coupon would only match that. It was seriously like an hour, and I finally just said look, I can get all 4 of these for tax at Wags, can you PM that or not? The girls actually told me I should've just lied about it & let them charge their price of $4.97 & I wouldn't have had any problems.
So I left with no BW. Which is fine, it wasn't a horrible experience or anything, but they need to get it together! The girl was like, well it's still really new to us..we've only been doing it since March. I'm like that TWO MONTHS, am I the only one PMing here?!?!
Whatever, it is what it is.

Whatever, it is what it is.
It sounds like, in order for them to do the deal for the correct result, they should have just done one at 4.97 and one at 0.00 and then did the manu Q. They made it more difficult by doing the 5.99 price. I would think that as long as it get's to the same end result (free in this case) it would be best to do it the easiest way possible!

What a pain!

I had a problem with the body wash as well for PMing today. She rang up one @ $4.97 (their price) and one @ $1.02 (said since the ad stated $5.99, she had to charge the difference for the second bottle. Then when I gave her my BOGO q she only took off $4.97. I ended up paying $1.02 for 2 bottles. Does that seem right? To me she should have taken off $5.99 for the coupon.

Guess I should have left the ad in the car, maybe than I wouldn't have had the $1.02 charge.

I agree, she should have, but good luck arguing with them. They are so stubborn! That's why I can't stand going there....

That's why I can't stand Walmart! You waste so much time there. I bought a high chair there, got it home, opened it, there was old food dried up on it, went right back and returned it and they gave me a hard time and accused me of using it and bringing it back. I had to explain that at the time, my infant was 1 month old, and doesn't even eat food so that's not possible, and, I was just there 1/2 an hour prior. They have such great deals but you waste more time there then the deals are worth sometimes....
