Is this your store only? The reason I ask is because I have close family members in management and was told that my WM would never do layaway again due to space issues.

I doubt this is true. I have family in management and they even asked corp and corp said not a possibility anymore since they have the site to store in the layaway dept. I guess, like others, minds change faster then we speak! Only time will tell |

| If they were bringing it back for the Holiday season, then it would probably already be there. The retail Holiday season has already started. I think this may just be a rumor.

with the economic times and the serious need to compete, I would not be surprised it it showed up for a very limited time. I mean, I have NO plans to do ANY christmas shopping with walmart, but might consider it if I could do lay away.

I work in Corp. and there isn't even a rumor of it starting back up. When layaway was done away with, the registers back in Layaway were revamped with new programming for Site to Store only. The only Layaway that is still open through WM is Jewelery and Special Ordered Guns...

Walmart quit doing layway because they lost so much money on it. It was a big money hog for the store.

I sure do miss the layaway. I used to do the majority of my shopping with Walmart at the time. Now, they don't see a penny of my money at Christmas... only for my q deals! Its sad, but I really wish they would consider bringing it back.

I think it would be great for Christmas, but I can see why they don't want it all year. At my moms store a lot of people would pit all sorts of seasonal stuff on, wait for clearance and demand the lower price. Or they cancel it, it has to go on the shelf for the low price. It was a real past time for a lot of them. I'm sure they were small time too.

My walmart layaway area has been totally revamped, they would have to totally redo that entire space to bring it back. I doubt it's true.

I don't go to wm much anymore, but this is very cool...I am glad that they are thinking of the many people like me that are having a hard time paying for something right away. Thank you for the news!!

With most people trying not to use credit cards so much these days, it would be so nice to see lay-a-way come back. People are up to their eye-teeth in debt. I'd prefer not to make any more charge account payments that will last all year. It's so much better to start in Sept. and have it all paid before Christmas. Sigh.... I fondly remember the days of lay-a-way.... |

They are not going to put layaway back in the stores. If you remember when they did layaway they would have tons of storage containers on the back side of their stores to put all the layaway stuff in. Guess what those cost at least $ 50.00 per month to rent. They didn't charge a fee for layaway so the profits paid for the containers. It was a business decision to get rid of the layaway since it was costing the stores money. I know it was a convenience for the customers but it was a loser for the stores. Last time I checked Wal-mart is in the business of making money since they are a for profit company. Instead of using layaway why not start a Christmas club account at your local bank or credit union? They are accounts that you put money into each week and they let you cash it out in November or December depending on the bank. It is free and you would also earn a little interest on the money. |
