Ok I had a script over at walmart. I transferred to CVS for the gift card of course. And this month I tried to transfer to Walgreens for there GC. Well I was told that it was against the law in Nebraska to transfer a script more than once! What the heck!!!!! Why not? Anyone else have this problem?

WHAT??? Who told you that? That would be a silly law I mean what if you had problems with your pharmacy, etc. I think someone is trying to pull a fast one on you. Did you try to look it up online?

I just looked it up....something to do with privacy. Transfer of Prescriptions The transfer of original prescription information for any non-controlled drugs for the purpose of refill dispensing is permissible between pharmacies on a one time basis subject to the following requirements: 1. the transfer is communicated directly between two licensed pharmacists and the transferring pharmacist records the following information: 1. write the word “VOID” on the face of the original prescription; 2. record on the reverse of the original prescription the name, address of the pharmacy to which it was transferred and the name of the pharmacist receiving the prescription information; and 3. record the date of the transfer and the name of the pharmacist transferring the information. 2. the pharmacist receiving the transferred prescription information must: 1. write word “TRANSFER” on the face of the transferred prescription; 2. record on the face of the prescription all information required to be on a prescription and include: 1. date of issuance of the original prescription; 2. original number of refills authorized on original prescription; 3. date of original dispensing; 4. number of valid refills remaining and date and location of last refill; 5. pharmacy's name, address, and original prescription number from which the prescription information was transferred; and 6. name of transferring pharmacist. 3. both the original and transferred prescription must be maintained for five years from the date of last refill. Pharmacies electronically accessing the same prescription record must satisfy all information requirements of a manual mode of prescription transferal. Neb. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 71-1,146.02 (2002), Neb. Admin. Code 172-128-005.10 (2002).

No I haven't but will thank you. And it was the pharmacist. They called CVS than called me back saying that CVS told them I had already transferred it to them so she called me and said that the law says I can't transfer a script to more than 1 other store. That's what I told my husband. What if it's to high at the 2nd pharmacy I can't transfer it to a cheaper place. Ok off to check online. ![]()

I'm sorry to hear that.... where can we find the information about which States allow transfer multiple times and which States do not?

| |||
I'd never heard of anything like this, but it appears to be more common then you'd think from searching on Google. So just Google Prescription Transfer Law and your state and see what you come up with.

Not if your doctor writes you a new Rx. ![]()

Yeah but if your doc writes you a new script - then you still have to go to one and fill it in order to transfer it and get the deals!!

I have taken my NEW prescriptions to my local grocery store and ask them to put the actual prescription on file, but that I was not ready to fill it yet...then I go to WAGS and ask them to transfer my prescription from my local grocery store..it works out because my pharmacy doesn't have to go through the trouble of filling it and then putting it back, they just transfer the info from the computer..HTH

I don't usually have prescriptions and that one had 7 refills left. LOL So I don't think he would write a new one.

transferred rx this is my first time to post on this site ... as a matter of fact, I am new at the coupon game (a friend is hooked and I am intrigued...). I am a pharmacy tech and my parents have owned an independent pharmacy since i was 6 months old (36 years ago). I was raised in the pharmacy. I see alot of questions about how many times an Rx can be transferred. and alot of questions about prescriptions in general so maybe I can help. In most states a script can only be transferred 1 time if it is a controled substance. If you dont know if yours is all you have to do is ask. about getting a Dr to write a script, why not just tell them you want to get a gift card and ask them to write for an OTC item. Once it is in the pharmacy's system it should count. Scripts are written for people in nursing homes and assisted living centers for OTC items all the time. hope this helps.
