Lost Rebate...D'OH!

I am SO SAD!!!
Walgreens never received my August EasySaver Rebate! "I can send you a form so you can resubmit the copies" the nice lady on the phone says.
I didn't make copies!!!
I just sent my September one off with my hubby to mail...and no copies of it either. I hope that one gets there ok...both were over $30, and I certainly wouldn't have bought most of the things on there if not for the rebate!
I hope I have now learned my lesson, and I guess it's a reminder to you guys...make copies!!!
The customer service lady suggested that I go back to the store with dates and get a log of my purchases. Has anyone done this? I am thinking about it...

Nope but if you remember the dates and what you got then I would try it. I would then make a copy and call. Wish they would go online like Rite Aide.

Copies of the receipts & the forms you filled out. Rebates are never 100%. Sometimes something legitimately happens (such as lost in the mail) & sometimes it just seems like they are out not to pay you regardless of how well you document things. However, your chances of recovering and getting your rebate can be greatly improved when you keep a copy of your documentation.

Since most of them go through, it may seem like a wasted effort sometimes. However, when I recovered my $55 appliance delivery rebate from Home Depot because I had all my documentation, it paid for the AIO printer I use to make all my copies.... I have done many rebates & having copies has paid off several times.

As sbombria is finding out the hard way - if you don't have documentation, you can't prove anything to fight back & get your money. With rebates you are assumed guilty of violating the terms until proven innocent.

I usually try to make copies, though sometimes it's last minute and I don't bother. I've had one Walgreen's rebate go missing, and fortunately I had the copies. Now, Office Depot seems to be out to rip me off--out of 6 rebates from this summer's school supply sales, 2 mysteriously were missing something. These are all sent separately, so it's not like I left something out of one envelope that affected 2 rebates. Unfortunately I didn't always make copies of them because they were about $5--but I wish I had, because these were things I would not have bought.

OP--if you do try to get the store to find the records for you, you should probably call and talk about it with the manager during a non-busy time. When they had to print mine because the printer jammed (and this was 45 minutes after the transaction), even that was very time-consuming. Good luck!

You know, sometimes I wonder if rebates are worth the effort. Half the time I forget to send them in because DH cleans up and puts them in the middle of a pile, and the other half of the time I wonder if I actually ever got the money back for it.

You have to be really organized, and like someone said, this is stuff I probably wouldn't buy normally anyway - I'm just doing it because it's free. I've started really cutting back on the rebates I will do because I don't think I am making money in the long run anymore.

I have to disagree with what I bolded in the above person's post. I do many rebates -- many for meat and other groceries. I may not MAKE money, but I am not buying things I don't need. Ex: I just did the "Buy $30 worth of meat, get $15 back" MIR from Coors. I didn't buy the $30 of meat just b/c I had a MIR. I bought $30 of meat b/c I have a family to feed. I was going to spend that money whether I had a MIR or not. Having the MIR to get some of that $$ back just makes life sweeter!

There are times that I've done rebates just because something is cheap/free (because I needed filler for a larger deal, mostly) but generally it is for stuff that I need or will eventually use. Everybody has their own system and if you want to take your chances on not getting the small $2-5 rebates, that's certainly your preference. I'd advise more prudence for larger rebates though....

Rebate! Rebate! Download Free Program to track your rebates!

I use this program for rebate tracking that I found posted here on AFC so I can see whether I am getting back what I'm supposed to. It's not very customizable but it does what I need it to do. I don't put in all the information they have spaces for because the contact info for the company is on the form that I made copies of. I just put in enough to allow it to enter in the system so I can track it to make sure they sent me my money that I went through the effort to request.
