My Dollar tree had some VERY nice Silver, Gold, Red and Green ones this past weekend. They were plenty large for my baskets. I also bought some of those baggies at the dollar tree that you use a hair dryer with to kind of close them up to make them look fancy. Also I didn't know this until a while back but you can order large quantities of dollar tree stuff from Dollartree.com you typically have to order a minimum amount, but our office did this this summer for some items. If you plan on making a lot of baskets, that may be the way to go. Quote:

Think outside the box... You can use a pretty box (if it is sturdy). $1 Store has baskets if your basket is on the small side Let's say it's a toiletry basket...get one of those shower caddy baskets that you carry those items in at the $1 store If it is for someone who likes that kind of thing, there are Corona buckets at Wags If you are buying a gift AND doing a basket, combine them.. A casserole dish can be your base A pretty tray Etc

I was just thinking about this today also. I need several more baskets for teachers, neighbors and the mail carrier. I've used up all but 2 baskets that I got at after xmas clearance sales in previous years. I'm hoping to find some good deals at Michaels and JoAnns using the 40% off coupons that come in the paper every week. I'm also going to check out Tuesday Morning to see what they have. When they have the after Christmas clearance sales this year I'm going to have to really stock up again!! |

Back when I was in high school, I made a basket out of a paper bag with ribbon weaved around it...it was very pretty! I don't remember exactly how to do it, but I'll try to google and see if I can come up with anything. Ribbon can usually be found for cheap, if nothing else we can all stock up after christmas this year to use for next. I'll post if I can figure it out, or maybe someone else has also made on before...

Everyone is getting a gift basket this year! Lots of useful stuff to give instead of those things that might get poked in the back of a closet and forgotten. I've gotten tons of stocking stuffers and toys for my youngest son at WAGS. Even though things are tight this year, I think everyone will appreciate their baskets. I've already started making mine with baskets I purchased at Dollar Tree. I want to make one for myself!

For the larger baskets, I use laundry baskets. You can usually get them fairly cheap at the dollar stores. Everyone loves them and you can put lots of stuff in them.

Use the plastic shoe boxes from Target as a "basket". At my Target they go on sale for .89 sometimes, and if you are doing the Glade gift card deal from Target you can use the gift card to buy those. (See Target posting for that deal) Worst case scenario, just buy the shoe box for under $1 each. |

The Christmas gift bags will be out, if not already, and can be used as fillers for other stuff. They make great teacher, family, etc., gift bags. I've got plenty of Glade candles, post it notes (enough to last a few years, from Walmart), other school supplies clearanced, lotions, chocolate, etc., to fill em up.

I didn't see this mentioned yet... A couple weeks ago there was an insert q for Celestial Seasonings tea. It's a $1 q and makes the tea about half price. I noticed our local WalMart had put out "seasonal" tea, gingerbread and stuff like that, in holiday-themed boxes. I haven't even looked for them at our Wags-- their grocery selection isn't very good. I have picked up about six of those boxes to add to the gift baskets. Not free like the Wags stuff but cheap enough and very holiday.

I didn't want to break the bank to get gift boxes for my free stuff, so last year I just got some sturdy cardboard boxes, cut off the flaps, wraped them, filled them, and covered them with big, red see-through bags from dollar tree. I haven't been able to find cheap plastic containers large enough to hold all I wanted to give. I do like the laundry basket idea. You have all given me some great ideas! I planned on giving teachers a candle holder and refills, a homemade ornament, homemade card. Now I think I will be adding lotion, bandaids, chapstick, candy, and maybe some other stuff. I really like the movie, popcorn, candy idea, too! |
