Question Prescription transfer question

Can I transfer a prescription that only has one refill left in order to get the gift card? Is there a limit of how many refills should be left?

TIA

I've never used a Wags q for that; but have done it with numerous other stores (Kmart, Target, Rite Aid, etc.); & all you need is to have one refill available to do the transfer. Actually, in some states, you can only transfer one refill; if there are more left, they will not transfer over.

But again, to answer your question, you definitely need one to transfer; I don't think you would need any more. I would ask them; they will tell you.

Transfers are generally considered as prescriptions that had at least one refill remaining at their original pharmacy. I know that New York will only allow one refill to be transferred 'out'. I dunno why, but that's what they tell us when we call to do transfers from pharmacies in NY.

In Texas, a controlled substance can only be transferred once. It can have it's original 'home' (where the hardcopy was dropped off, where the Dr called it in) and then it's transfer 'home'. I apologize for the analogy, but telling folks that controlled substances can only have 2 homes tends to help them remember it for us.

But the laws on transferring prescriptions depends on the state that you are in.

Yes; you are correct with that; NY will only allow you to transfer one refill, no matter how many were on that perscription.

In NJ, they will let you transfer up to 2 refills with a perscription; again, even if there are more.

I realize there are different laws for different states.

But the original poster's question was, does he/she need to have more than one refill on a perscription to transfer it; & I believe the answer to be "no"; that you only need to have one refill left; that is the one you will transfer out.

I also know that to be true what you said about transferring perscriptions from pharmacies in NJ; you can only transfer a perscription once. From my experience, it is not only for a controlled substance; but other perscriptions/medications as well. I learned when I tried to transfer a perscription for my DH once; that we had already transfered once; and found we could not do it a second time. It was not a controlled substance.

Assumming that the original poster of this thread has not transferred this perscription once already, then again, I believe the answer to their original question to be that as long as there is one refill available, then can transfer this perscription.

(Their original question/post was: "Can I transfer a prescription that only has one refill left in order to get the gift card? Is there a limit of how many refills should be left?" And again, I believe that to be yes; they can transfer a perscription that has only one refill left; and to their second question, no; there is not a limit of how many refills should be left.)

Yes, I've done that before with children's scripts with no problem at Wags.
