Using RR's to buy giftcards

Some people are using their RR's to buy milk even though the coupon states that you can't. Has anyone tried using their RR to buy a prepaid VISA card? I'd love to be able to use my RR's to buy groceries this week, the food budget is low. I guess I could use the RR's at Safeway too I suppose. Thoughts?

The RR's that print here in Houston doesn't have any note about not being able to use on milk.

RR's are not intended to be used on gift cards, the fine print is on the coupon.

I think people do the milk thing because some states don't have a rule against it..but I do not think you could use them for gift cards

Mine say that they exclude dairy, too. But earlier this week, I asked my favorite cashier about that, and she said we could go ahead and try it. The worst thing that could happen is the register beeps at us, and then I wouldn't be allowed to do it. So.....we tried it, and.......it worked! So, I'm not sure. Maybe Ohio does NOT have a law against it???

those restrictions are not enforceable by the register...it is up to the cashiers to know the restrictions and enforce them
...another case of no/poor training?

I've never tried to use on dairy or gift cards since they are not supposed to be used that way. (I wouldn't want to tick off my store since they let me do so many deals back to back etc. )

I do pick up lots of grocery items there though (my local grocery won't take RR)
as fillers when rolling and lots of extras with a good sale or when I just get to many RR.
What ever grocery items I pick up there are that many more things I don't have to pay in cash for at the grocery store (even if they are a little more expensive I still come out ahead not having to lay out cash)

good buys that I have found
eggs
bread
pizzas when on sale
canned goods
sugar
pudding/gelatin
cookies/crackers/snack items
peanut butter & jellies when on sale
Ragu sauce when on sale
oatmeal & cereals when on sale
toilet paper & paper towels
coffee ( I burned a lot of RR this week on the Maxwell House w/coupon from coupons.com)

Next week with the monitor RR's I will have WAY more than in RR than I am comfortable keeping to roll week to week so I will stock up heavy on baking items for Thanksgiving and Christmas
and instant coffee

Maxwell House instant 3.79
Ocean Spray juice 1.79
Eggs .99
Crisco shortening 2.50
Karo Syrup 2.50 (coupon for this too)
baking powder .50
cornstarch .50
sugar 1.99 (never goes bad)
honey 3.99 (never goes bad)
gold medal flour 1.50 (.50 coupon out for this)
eagel condensed milk 1.79
canned pumpkin .99
carnation milk .99 (.50/2 coupon out for this)
apple pie filling 1.50
marshmallow cream .99 (great for making fudge)
betty crocker cake mix .99
betty crocker warm delights .99 (.50 coupon out for this)
cottonelle 12packs 5.99

my stores do not double coupons so for me these are great buys and even better they are free with all the MM RR off the monitors. Yeah I will be burning a lot on grocery items there next week

That is too funny! I don't know why, but I always lump eggs in with dairy too. Family gives me a hard time about it. Yes, I know that cows don't lay eggs!

once when i was ringing out someone in the back a patient asked to see if a RR would work on a prescription. i wanted to see if it would beep but it didnt, but i voided the RR for use since you CANT use it for prescriptions or other stuff that it excludes. most of the time the register wont beep, so its up to the customer to make sure to read the exclusions and not use it for that item.

So why can't you use the RR's on stamps, milk, giftcards etc. Anyone know the reason?

Ok - The milk thing is b/c some states have a law against using coupons to purchase milk. I have asked this at 5 walgreens, the customer service place, i have called catalina etc. As for gift cards i think its b/c they dont get reimbursed for them? they cant take a loss on it?

I've used RRs on stamps before without knowing that I wasn't suppose to... but got other stuff too and maybe the price of that stuff was more than the RR... I don't really remember though.... but now that I know, I wouldn't try it again nor on dairy, gift cards etc...

Using them to buy giftcards is a big no no. Especially since it states it right on the coupon. It would be a big loss profit wise for the store to allow RR to be used to buy giftcards, because (especially the non walgreens ones) they don't get very much profit and it's taking money away from the store. RR are intended to be used to buy merchandise at walgreens
