Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I live in Tonawanda, NY and the Tops on Young Street in Tonawanda and the Tops on Sheridan Dr & Delaware Rd in Tonawanda are no longer accepting internet coupons.

This past Sunday, I tried to use 2 internet coupons at Tops on Young Street just like I always do. The cashier told me she couldn't take them so I asked to talk to the manager. The manager told me that they got an email from corporate saying that due to fraud that all Tops are no longer going to take any internet coupons whatsoever. I asked her if this was permanent and she said that she didn't know but that it looks that way.

Yesterday (Monday) I thought I'd try the Tops on Sheridan Dr & Delaware Rd. The cashier scanned my first internet coupon with no problem but then (just my luck) there was a problem scanning the second coupon, he called over the manager, she told me and the cashier that all Tops are no longer accepting interent coupons and also explained the corporate email. Again, I asked her why and she said that the fraudulent internet coupons has gotten way out of control for them. She went on to explain that they keep log book of the fake internet coupons and it turned into practically a daily log book and that why this happened. Again, I asked her if it may get reversed and she said " I highly doubt it." She was polite about the whole thing, not rude at all.

I still am going to try to use what internet coupons I have because I think that many cashiers aren't aware of this yet. This really upsets me because now we are all going to lose money due to the abuse of others. For the rest of you I hope this takes a long time for all the other Tops to enforce this. I'd use your good internet coupons soon though just to be safe. Just want everyone on the board to have a heads-up.

Ya know...if they are going to start doing that, they should probably take the internet coupon link off their website. Seems a bit contradictory. I will be emailing corporate tonight to get more info for you all.

UGH!! I went shopping on Fri and Sat and no one said a word to me, phew! I have sooooo many IPs!! What a waste of ink and paper. They should give a warning period so that we can hurry in and use them up and know not to print more...

Does Wegman's take the IPs? I don't shop at my Wegman's ever since they quadrupled the size. I hate it and I get lost....

So, according to kingraham's email, it sounds like there has been no change in corporate policy regarding IPs. Maybe it is just a few individual store managers in Tonawanda who are being difficult...

If what you say is true, can something be said to both the managers at these stores as I believe there may have been a mix up somewhere. I really appriciate all your help!

Wow - thank you SOOOO MUCH!! I never thought of contacting corporate! Thank you so much for letting us all know what the response was and for sending the second email. I am going to call that number you posted, I wish so bad I would have payed attention and got the managers names but at least I can let them know the day and time this events happened. I will let you all know what the response is.

I definitely learned something here, do not take cashiers/assistant managers/managers word on things like this. I will always follow up now.

Okay, I just called and spoke to Kelly and she said everything the kinggraham posted. Kelly said that Tops should have accepted the coupons I had and that she is going to contact the managers(I gave her the dates and times) at the locations I visited. The manager at Young Street is going to contact me personally.

Sorry about the mix up. Just so everyone is clear the rules are that internet coupons:
1) Must have a face value of $5.00 or less
2) Will not accept any "free" internet coupons
3) Cannot be altered in any way

I shopped yesterday ,9/9/09, at the Tops in Brighton NY. I had over 20 internet coupons and not only did they accept them, they doubled all including the ones that said "do not double"! I saved over $70.00!

Yes, as long as the coupon (internet or not) starts with a number 5 it will double! Tops has been taking internet coupons for a while now (Wegmans too!) - you can go to their websites and under coupon rules they spell it out: no internet "free" coupons etc. but they certainly accept internet coups! I generally use the self-check out and have NO problems!! Across the board I've found the Rochester Area Tops stores very coupon friendly - I'm glad you had the same experience!!

PS - the two Tops nearest me have no problem with using coupons on manager mark-downs either; I love the double savings!! I picked up yogurts yesterday that were close to the sell-by-date marked down to $1.39 for the six pack and with my $1 coups I walked away with 6-6packs for .39-cents each!!!

I live in Orchard Park and my Tops takes internet coupons also. They have a great tool on their website for making your shopping list also. I pull my coupons for what is on sale and my trip in the store is much quicker. The shopping list is organized by the layout of your preferred store!! It is great!!
