| Fuzzy math
I see lots of people posting details about their shopping trips on coupon pages on FB. I keep wondering about their math. Example - person spends $20 at Riteaid and gets $15 in up rewards. Net amount is $5 after taking the rewards into account. Next shopping trip they spend $45 at Riteaid and use their $15 up rewards from the previous shopping trip to bring the total down to $30. Seems to me you can't use the up rewards 2x to determine savings. You count it off initial purchase OR when you use the up rewards - you can't use the $15 to calculate the savings on both.... Has anyone else wondered about this? :-) Just wondering. |

Yes it annoys me too. I always count the RR that I use as cash and add that to my oop. I went to wags and after coupons my oop was 11.62 BUT I had 13 rr so my realized cost was 24.62 with 15 rr for my next purchase. (this was just an example)

It really depends how many times you can roll your rewards. I have been rolling my Riteaid rewards for 2 weeks now. My initial investment was $30. I get $25 to spend next time. Last week, I used $10 RR, paid $2 for tax and got $13 more RR to use so it was a money making week. They usually have some items every week that is pretty close to free after coupons. Buy those items and make your RR stretch for max value.

It definitely seems like some are counting their +up and similar savings 2x... possibly without quite realizing it? I don't think rewards like that should be counted as savings until after they're used, because it's not like a cash rebate, it's a $-off q after all... IMO at least. Just to use my recent Rite Aid trip as an example, where I rolled +up into subsequent transactions. (pre tax) Transaction 1: Spent $21, got $18 +UP Transaction 2: Spent $0.50, got $15 +up Transaction 3: Spent $1, no +up, but I have a rite aid Scr coming my way for 4.50. Total spent: $22.50 - 4.50 Scr = $18 spent. So no fuzzy math here- all savings and +up used in one transaction, though, so it's probably a little less confusing. I agree. I count my ups, rr whatever when I use them not when I get them. I feel the same way. You can't count then twice. ISO Similac and Huggies Qs

When I am figuring out my savings I dont figure Ups/ RRs into it at all. My total is Cash paid OOP- Rebates back to me (minus stamps for rebates if necessary)= (hopefully, usually) Total that store/ manufacturer has paid me to shop. I try to get back at least the same amount of Ups/ RRs that I used but, to me at least, a MMer has to involve making actual money. I have just passed my six month mark and RA has paid me about $150 above and beyond what I have paid them OOP and I still have about $40 in Ups to use. |

| Yes - e.g. Up+ earned in transaction 1 used for transaction 2, and that's why I only spent $0.50 OOP for transaction 2.
