I just saw a preview of this week's Safeway ad last night, and got excited to look for coupons

I went to Ebay and found a Doritos coupon - the seller had a rating of 100%, and the ad stated this:

Ok......so my question is, I got the coupons via email today, and they all have the SAME barcode. Is that ok or not ok? What do you think? I emailed him back and said "are you sure you didnt photocopy this ONE coupon 8 times and try to make money on it?" No answer yet.

Do you think I should use it or not? I have a gut feeling that this is not a good coupon......and usually my gut is right. What is your opinion?


update: I emailed him tonight, asking if the coupon was legitimate, this was the response:

yes they are legitimate, and they are not photocopied. the document i sent you is the same document i received from the Dorito company. but you can only use them one at a time.

I would be a little wary. The company would never send a lot of coupons like that, and it is very suspicious that it may not work at every store? The biggest red flag is that you were sent a link to print them. I suspect a counterfeit coupon.

Alot of places won't take IP's for free items because of the illegal distribution of them. I am going to say it is a pretty safe bet that they are not legitimate. Sorry you had to pay for those. The seller probably had a 100% seller rating because either not everyone knows about coupon fraud or they don't care.

You might have to contact Dorritos directly to find out for sure. Also how many # feedback did that seller have? Never buy from someone with a limited selling history. You could contact other people who purchased the same item? In my opinion if they are knowingly selling a photo copied or illegit coupon, they wouldn't tell you that it's illegit, right?! They'll lie! Good luck and let us know!

from what I understand, you can only auction 2 IPs for free items. if she auctioned 8 at one time, that is a violation that needs to be reported to ebay.

for your peace of mind, contact Frito Lay company and inquire about the questionable IP. They should be able to tell you if its okay to use or if there are no legit IPs currently in circulation. I will not be surprised if they say that it was a homemailer that may have been converted to IPs. Many enterprising sellers on ebay have copied/transformed legit coupons and made fake copies. You will notice a lot of auctions for free coupons (not IPs) that were sold way over the face value of the coupon. How can a coupon with $5 face value sell for $15? Turns out most of these buyer/seller are making copies of these non IP coupons to make them into IPs and selling them in stock lots for profit.

regarding the barcode, are these bricks coupons? the barcodes may be the same for all of them BUT check the veri-fi (upper R side) or PIN code (usually on the L side) in others which should be UNIQUE for each legit IP. If all these are the same numbers even if they are colored and well copied, only the original of this coupon will be paid at clearinghouse.

Thanks for sharing your experience. People should be made aware of fake IPs on ebay.

I would ask the seller for my money back and if they don't give it back I'd let them know I'm going to report them for coupon fraud.

I had a complaint once to them, and they sent me 3 coupons for a free bag... I believe the value of the coupon is $3.99. I don't have it in front of me, but it is on glossy like paper, and was mailed to me.. not email. I would think these coupons you got were fake. I would ask for a refund.

The seller appears shady, s(h)e is selling lots of free coupons. I wonder where she is getting all these from? Its okay to have 1 or 2 but the free Doritos says 8 coupons per auction with 10 available! 80 FREE coupons?!

OP, I suggest you request for a refund while telling her you were told only 2 FREE coupons are allowed to be sold so you doubt the authenticity of her coupons. If you paid via paypal, you should have her verified personal information there. Let Frito Lay take care of her.

If you paid, ask for a refund, if you don't get one file a complaint via paypal and you should get your money back. Coupon sounds like fraud to me, but even if its not it sure sounds like a hassle and gamble to try

I would also notify Frito Lay & Ebay of the fraud. There is NO way Frito Lay sent this person $80.00 worth of Q's for a problem.

Frito Lay MIGHT send you some legit Q's for notifying them of the real fraud going on.

Colgate sent me lots of good coupons when I inquired about the Colgate Total IPs which looked questionable with LED.

More likely, Frito Lay will send you original coupons for helping them stop fraud.

Person had a very very very high selling history...hence me not really thinking much of it. I did think it was odd when i got them, i should have trusted my gut - dont know what i was thinking......grrr. So far today (but it's only 6:48) Frito Lay has not responded.

Seller did not respond to my second email of "if you dont refund me I'll turn you in....." - maybe he/she is scared! LOL! It was 2.99 for 8 coupons - each worth up to 5.00, so not bad in cost I dont think, but it is wrong what he/she did.

I found the seller. Her history doesn't look very very very very high to me.
Her feedbacks are from buying not selling. She hasn't even got 10 feedbacks yet from selling. That is why her detailed seller rating are not showing up. She also has two negs. I would file a claim with PP right now.

In the OP the person couldn't even spell right which would make me question it! Everyone else has said it but I think they are fraudulent and you should start reporting even without hearing from Frito Lay!

Anyone & everyone who has an acct. & finds the current auction can report it to ebay, I just did. They need to be shut down, people like that give all couponers a bad name.

what if she is buying one real coupon then turning around making copies and selling them???? i have seen that alot on ebay.

i figured this out when i seen free item coupons sellling for way high i mean well above the retail value, i though hmmm why would someone pay that much for a free coupon then the red light went off they must be making copies and reselling is the only thing i can think of

Looks like the person whom I first called out is gone. I think those of us select few here who have E-Bay accounts did our part in reporting her/him. Likewise, like I said, it was not difficult to figure out who it was based on her/his terrible spelling (garunteed) ....??

I always look for little things like that when buying off of E-Bay be it coupons or otherwise. And like others have said, their history. Apparently I see now there is someone else who is offering "$40 worth of FREE DORITOS TORTILLA CHIPS COUPONS" ...sooooo I am assuming that is fraudlent as well.

Update:

Contacted Frito Lay by phone this morning; they requested me to forward the email with the coupons and listing info to them, which I did. This was at 0715.

Then......seller emailed me at 0815 asking me what the status was. I told the seller I turned their info to Frito Lay, and also Ebay (which I did immed after calling Frito Lay).

Seller refunded me 2.99 IMMEDIATELY....

Frito Lay and Ebay are handling it now. Frito Lay thanked me.....said that this has happened in the past.
