Talking Direct Buy Furniture Showroom

Does anyone have experience with Direct Buy? They have an infomercial on TV that just sounds too good to be true. I'm afraid of joining because I'm thinking it's probably a company that has high pressure salespeople trying to get you to buy their furniture. If you have tried Direct Buy, please post a comment letting us know how the program works.

I have some friends who joined DirectBuy, and depending on how much renovating you are going to do, it can be worth it to join.

You can go to their website and sign up for a tour. When you go to the DirectBuy "showroom" you are shown a video about how amazing DB is, and then you are basically pressured into joining by a sales person. I've heard it costs anywhere from $3500-6500 to join, with $100/year after that. You aren't allowed to go into the actual showroom that customers use unless you join. And supposedly, if you don't join right then (you cannot go home and think about it) you are banned from DB for a couple years. Typical high-pressure sales stuff.

If you join, you have to pay sales tax, a surcharge of 8%, and freight shipping costs on all purchases. I've read that some people have had good luck with their purchases, and some people hated the experience, because some of the catalogs were outdated, so by the time that they purchased something like a TV, that product wasn't even being made anymore. Some members have said that the shipping time was really crazy long, like 6 weeks!

I looked into DB a few years ago and read a bunch of stuff on the internet about it. My husband and I weren't really doing enough renovating to make it worth the price of membership. And, our friends joined, but have never purchased anything yet, so I don't know what their experience will be.

I found a really interesting site online that may help. I was interested in Direct Buy too until I read about them on the infomercialscams website.

I saw on our news last night, they were interviewing someone who had the membership.

First when you go, (like said above) they want you to join now..no time to go home and think about it...membership same as above...

This person joined and never used it to buy anything because after shopping around (which I'm sure we all do), he found better prices outside of Direct Buy. He also said that if you were to order something from them (even big items) they would only ship them to their warehouse and then it would be up to you to figure out how you are to get them home.

The news said that Direct Buy also tried to stop them from airing this man's interview...(I'm sure)..

Keep doing what you do best....Shop Around!!!!

My husband and I tried this when we bought our new house. I signed up on line. We drove to Inianapolis 2 hours away. We sat through their sales talk and they showed us a bunh of catalogues. They had some stuff on display. But I did not think their rices were al that good. They add sales tax and a percentage to the order. You will do better shopping around. We finally ordered from the manufactor through a website.

Yeah we joined this too a year or two ago...everyone is correct in whats been said so far...shipping time is crazy and there is USUALLY 8% added to the 'wholesale price' they offer...If you were renovating your home or looking to buy quite a bit of furniture, then it would be worth it. Their discounts on furniture are EXCELLENT - but joining for one or two pieces will not allow you to get your moneys worth. You can seriously get the furniture for about 1/2 what you see in other stores around town.

If I had the opportunity to go back in time, I would NOT join!

Don't do it. When my friend joined I almost cried for her. Waste of $4000 membership fee to have the privelage of spending double what you would pay if you shop around. Many complaints against them for their service. Shop around you will do better on your own. JMHO
