Hello,
You may have seen in "help" or "contact us" sections where I have reported having computer problems. I don't know if anyone can fix this. It seems the local computer store would rather it not be over 5 years old. Mine is considered a dinosaur I suppose. I believe it is an early (? ) 2000 -2004 computer. Gateway, another mark against it. It was a throw away that my Dh brought home. His work threw out some that they could not fix. I fixed 4 of them and this is one that I have had running for several years. I have been using it for at least the past 4-5 years and it has been good. Guess I need to return it to the trash! It was working great until,,,,,.//////,,,,,
recently (about three wks ago) it tried to download automatic updates, it loaded but couldn't install .Net Framework and Servpack 3. I went to the tech side of Microsoft and they sent me the SP3 on CD and said to load it. I never could install .Net Framework. Microsoft insisted that I install IE8. Bad Idea..that annoying icon flashing to load updates..grrrr and then...coincidence I don't know. I can't tell who what or when it all went to h____!
I got DSL through our phone company Windstream. After that all kinds of problems began. First it would kick me off with the IE Encountered a Prob....must close. That would happen every single time I got on line within the first two or three minutes. I couldn't download anything on Microsoft site. 10 or so technicians later and I still don't have the capabilities I had before the updates and IE 8. My DSL started acting up, first day of install. slow or would freeze. Windstreams techs all the way to India could not fix the problem, mail problem (explained later) and page not fully loading. Said it was not there problem to take it to tech. Heard same from every technician who "tried" to fix problems all the way from Windstream, Microsoft, Norton.
Yes IE 8 has been uninstalled...that wasn't easy seeing there was no "uninstall" included with the download. Through techs with Micro. it was removed and then they loaded IE7. After that they had me hit IE and it loaded to page with "runonce3" and a blank page. They never could get me out of that, I finally did through the web but it is back again after tech number 10! I can't delete mail in my home based Windstream page. The home page doesn't even load properly which was experienced way early on. The only thing that shows up on the page is the tabs and up from there. I can check mail but can't do anything once in the mailbox. None of the commands/ tabs, buttons work. I have to use the back on my browser to get out and start over. My mailbox will be loaded really soon. I can access my other mail site and do whatever I need there? By the way I don't even have IE at all on my computer, I had uninstalled it again to try to install Mozilla. It won't let me and it says that I have already installed Google Chrome??????I was unable to do that too. I click and nothing happens. I clicked on System Rstore and a blank box appears. Nothing happens. There has to be a browser somewhere. I can't format??? During all the techs and sometime after, Norton Antivirus seemed to have disappeared from my computer. Live update was still there. Techs at Norton sent back-up CD and it was installed with tech on line. Showed secure, all normal. Was advised to remove Norton by yet another Tech and to install AVG. I did yesterday it says it is installed, yet when I click on it and the box opens it is .......blank or has x's in the boxes.!!!!! As I said the Technician at Staples yesterday said not to even bring it in...just buy a new computer....I would love to...but with DH still not able to return to work...so I can post on some sites, but I can't download ie..coupons, software in some instances, but sometimes will allow me to run them. I can't access Yahoo at all says Java isn't enabled. It is. I can't play any games on GSN anymore. I have run defrag, always did. Always cleaned and maintained computer. No icons buttons or extras on this site work for me. I know its hopeless...but just thought I'd try once more. Jody
