Tried to get on a forum website I sometimes read and got the message "an error occured while processing your request" Ref #(gave a series of numbers).
I figured it was a website problem since I had no trouble getting on other sites. Tried again later and got same message with a different Ref #.

Here's where it gets weird. I received a phone call from someone saying they were with Microtech asking if I was having computer problems and they would help me fix them and asked if I was on the computer now. First of all I couldn't understand the guy because of the accent and it freaked me out that I was getting a call on my home phone. I asked for his number which he gave as 1-760-429-2887 and that it was Microtech. I told him I would call them back but I haven't. I turned off the computer with the powerstrip button and when I restarted it I had no problem getting on the website I couldn't get to earlier. I use IE as my browser.

So anyone have an idea what microtech is and how they got my number and why they were calling. I'm very leary of even calling the number he gave me.

That would freak me out! I would probably run my antivirus and see if a malware or virus or cookie tracking software was on my pc ...

Thanks you guys. I figured it was a scam and I wasn't about to get on my computer with someone who called me. It just seemed weird because the call came right after I had trouble getting on a site I normally visit. Freaky. I run an update on my antivirus every week and had just run one Sunday with no problems. Seems like this scam has been going on awhile. Hope no one falls for it.

Just a suggestion - quit using Internet Explorer it is the worst browser on the planet and the most vulnerable. Switch to Firefox or Chrome.

I tried to log onto FB not very long ago and it said that someone was trying to get on my FB page. It showed where they were from by a map with a dot by where they were from. I could not tell but it looked like it was by Russia so I changed my passwords and made them more difficult. It's a crazy world out there.

I think you did the right thing; shut down and unplug.

If it happens again; report it to your ISP (internet provider, like cable or fios)
