Im in the market for a GOOD, RELIABLE printer. One that doesnt use ALOT of ink, and prints CLEARLY. Right now I have a Kodak all-in-one, which is good, but I notice it burns ink...(and I cant figure out a way to fool the ink sensor when it says it needs to be replaced, even tho I kno it doesnt. I cant even choose to print in Black & White if my color is out, if any cartridge reads as out, it wont do crap... ). I dont wanna go too cheap and "get what I pay for", but I dont wanna go very exspensive if I dont have too. I have committed myself to the couponing lifestyle, so there isnt a doubt it would be a worth while investment. Im not very technologically smart either... if thats a word Any ideas and help would be nice...TIA

Get a HP or Brother black & white laser printer. The cartridges will last a lot longer as they also tell you the approximate # of pages per cartridge. HTH

laser ink is usually LESS than 1 set of inkjet cartridges and the amount of prints is significantly more...many report toner lasting 1+ years!

I have an HP OfficeJet J3680. I've had it for a few years. You can ignore the low ink warning and it will print no matter what. Even if there isn't any ink coming out! I would get a laser printer but some have been associated with producing lung damaging particles and I can't find a guide on finding one that doesn't.

Google for CISS - continuous ink supply system and then buy a hp or epson printer which is compatible with that CISS system! It saves a lot of money on ink!! Buy once for around $100 and the ink goes on for a long time! My brother bought one 4 years ago and the ink is still going on... I bought mine about a month ago... Had some trouble making it work bcos my hp is new model and wireless it took a while to set it up but now it works fine!! :-) |

![]() You can try Best Buy on Wednesdays. Most ink is 15% off and they usually have free shipping. I think there is an HP coupon on their site if you complete the some quiz thing and they have free overnight shipping.

I recommend buying a closeout model when the new year models are being introduced. You will get more for your money. Shop more than one store in each chain. Closeout model availability varies widely from store to store. As does price. They are not always advertised. You can get good solid reliable closeout models very cheap. You don't need the latest bells or whistles. I pay very little for my ink and I purchase brand new HP ink cartridges. There are several ways to reduce your ink costs. I purchase OfficeMax coupons on eBay. I generally purchase the "$10 off a $20 purchase" coupons for around $2.50 or less. That alone represents a net savings of at least $7.50 off any cartridge that costs $20 or more. The rest of the cost of a cartridge is paid for with the rewards credits that I earn by recycling ink cartridges. I purchase used, empty, "virgin" ink cartridges on eBay for as little as 50 cents per cartridge. "Virgin" cartridges have not been previously refilled. I purchase several hundred at a time. (You can purchase smaller amounts.) I get $2 or $3 credit for each cartridge that I recycle at Staples, OfficeMax and Office Depot. I have ink recycling accounts at all three. You must register for an account at their respective websites. Read the particular limitations and restrictions for each recycling program. They vary. You will receive your membership card by mail a few weeks after you register. You can also print a temporary card for use until your regular card arrives. Sign up for all three recycling programs. You will be glad that you did. Register for an eBay account and a Paypal account if you haven't already. Staples lets you turn in 10 cartridges a month per account. They give you $2 credit per cartridge (so $20 a month). If you make $1000 in purchases a year your rewards account is upgraded to Premium status. You can then recycle 20 cartridges a month for $40 in rewards. The big plus with Staples is that you don't have to spend any money on purchases to "unlock" your credits to receive them. Credits are issued once a month by email. OfficeMax lets you turn in 20 cartridges a month per account. They give you $3 credit per cartridge (so $60 a month). The big negative with OfficeMax is that you need to spend money to "unlock" your credits to receive them. If you turned in $60 worth of cartridges, you need to make $60 in purchases to receive them. Credits are issued once a month by email.

Thanks goes out to everyone who submitted feedback and ideas...guess Im going printer hunting... . I do like my Kodak all in one, and will keep it for pictures and everything else, but maybe a good laser black and white would do for just coupons and documents. Maybe ill wait till black Friday... ...always hunting for a bargain. Also, I noticed that my coupons print really bad when I get the cheapie refills at Cartridge World. Actually what prompted me to post this was I put a brand new one in from there, printed nothing really that day...and by the next day it was empty. After some investigating, all the color ink drained into my printer...uhggg...good thing I know someone who took it all apart and cleaned it just like new and works awesome with the Kodak printer ink ![]() I also learned that if I print something w/o ink, it will stay in my print quary even after I shut down my lap-tops, always wondered if it would, thats definately good to know if I see a coupon pop up and cant hook up to my printer it'll stay there. Just thought I'd post this cuz I seen before that someone posted this question and I learned that it works GREAT. Wasnt able to print for 2 days, then burnt up my printer last night... ![]() Thanks again everyone!!! |
