First time buying school supplies as my little guy will start full time kindergarden in August. I saw my target had the stuff up already but didnt see any sales signs. So my question is do they have sales or is what they hve it priced at now pretty much what I will end up paying for? I was thinking of just getting it out of the way as he starts august 22 ( i think) and we have so many things going on from now till then I dont want to be rushing. So any tips for this first time mommy would be great. Any coupons out there?

Went to Target today to get some Free Hydrogen Peroxide using the Target $0.75 q. I printed out 3 and took DH & DD with me since the q says limit 1 per customer. Checked out the school supply section and bought the 10 count markers (non-crayola brand) for $0.79 however when we went to go pay the cashier said they changed their rules! They now will accept up to 4 of the same Target coupon per transaction so we only paid $0.10!!
Has anybody heard about this rule change? She didn't price down my coupon so I got the credit toward the markers..did Target change this rule too or did I just get lucky with this cashier?

Some things won't get any cheaper. Target and Walmart seem to set their prices and that's it. But each week stores like Office Depot, Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc will have one or two items for really cheap or even "free". I know I got several packs of markers for "free" last year at Walgreens. I think I got crayons for .25 somewhere. I got two free backpacks at Office Depot. Composition notebooks for .25 at Office Depot. Hmmmmm... Everything else I got at walmarts markdown price. I'm sure there are others that did better.... I think I remember Rite Aid had some free tape (although that might have been Christmas).
Honestly I'm still pretty stocked up from last year.

One word of advice...stock up now...so at christmas when you get a letter home from the teacher that little Johnny needs more supplies, you have a well stocked box in the closet to grab from. School supplies are triple or more at christmas time.

Also, I always peek at the supply list for the following year (they don't change much from year to year). I'll stock up on items that are dirt cheap or clearance at the end of the season that I know he'll need for next year. I was able to cross off 1/3 of my list this year using supplies I had saved from last year's .25 and .01 bargains And yes, you will inevitably need supplies mid year (we always seem to have a lunch box crisis) so you will thank yourself for stashing away a few extras

I'm loving this thread. I am trying to get a gauge of where to purchase supplies. My office is having a schools supply drive in coordination with the Salvation Army to donate to kids whose families may not be able to afford them. I want to stock those kids up, and at these prices I can.

As far as needing school supplies mid-year... in the years that I spent in the elementary classroom, I always liked to get refills on Facial Tissues, Glue Sticks, and Hand Santizer. I usually kept a copy of the supply list I gave out a the beginning of the year and used it again at mid-year and just highlighted what each student was running low on and needed to bring a refill on. It worked out pretty well

Also, consider donating a few extra Tissues to the P.E. Teachers, Counselors, Art Teacher(s), Music Teacher(s), Librarian, etc. They tend to be the forgotten ones and they see almost EVERY STUDENT in a school.

I went to Target yesterday and all the school supplies were on clearance. Bought a backpack and lunch bag for 50% off as well as some folders, pencil sharpeners and scissors. Also, the 1 subject notebooks are 0.07 cents each
