With this program, you sign up to receive a scanner to scan your purchases. When you scan your purchases, you are going to earn points for the items that you scan. This program is FREE to join! Nielsen Home Scan has a catalog full of prizes that you can redeem your points for. Some of the prizes include electronics, household items, jewelry, toys & more! They also offer various surveys that you can fill out to earn even more points. You will also be entered into their sweepstakes when you submit your purchases that you have scanned. Click Here to signup for Homescan. There are mixed feedback on this some people love it some people think it takes to much work. The good news if you signup and takes too much work you can just send it back. A positive Feedback: I have to admit that it is a lot of work, but just a few month’s into my panel membership I won $1000 from NCP. They do weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual drawings for panelist who transmit data weekly. I would have to say that 10 minutes a day worth of work is well worth it! Not only did I receive my $1000 check, but I continue to receive free gifts on my anniversary and earn points to spend in their fabulous gift catalog. I LOVE IT!!!!! I just got mine last week (after applying after the last post too) and even though I have a 1 month old and a 2 year old helping me, it’s not too hard to do. So far it’s actually motivated me to get my groceries put away faster because I get everything scanned as soon as I get home, before the toddler whisks things away and things get mixed up. It does look like the points add up slowly, but it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort (I spend a lot more time clipping coupons each week)! Nuetral feedback: i just got my scanner. it does seem like a lot of work and not a lot of prizes worth the effort. i was fine with scanning barcodes of purchases… but i have to type all the prices in and it’s a lot of work to figure out which price went with each item BEFORE i can even put any of it away. I’m going to give it a chance, but not sure whether i’ll keep it or not. Negative: I was accepted, but after having to enter in the price on EVERY item I bought and answer questions about if I used coupons in EACH item as well I got very annoyed and the process took too long so I sent it all back. Click Here to signup for Homescan.

We were members of the Nielsen Consumer Panel for at least three years. On one hand, it was time consuming. I would walk in the door from making purchases, and have to scan, indicate prices, indicate coupons what type of coupon and amount, and answer questions about promotions. UGH! Resale shop purchases had to be manually entered. Had to periodically scan in store lists, updates, and answer questionnaires for more points. I had to remember to transmit on schedule, too. Sometimes life was a little hairy and I was scrambling to scan, or scrambling to transmit, etc....OR I'd miss. On the other hand, we cashed in our points on some nice prizes, including a travel grill, a CD player (no such thing as iPods then) and some nice things for the kids. The company had great communication. If your battery is getting low, they send you a new one right away. They send you reminders to scan and transmit, etc... We quit because it just got to be too hard for me to keep up with all the other things going on in our household. I would recommend it, if you can work out a schedule to keep yourself on track! |

I was a member for about 3 months and sent my scanner back a few weeks ago. It is so time consuming to scan everything including gas for me and my hubby, anything we bought, including pizza. The prizes seem like they take forever to reach and to be honest, by couponing, I can save enough without the hassle to get the extra things I want. Some may enjoy it but it was like having a job.

Before you sign up, I would consider all the negatives!!! I was a member about 7 or 8 years ago, and did it for about a year. It was a pain. I would imagine that by now the scanner and software is way easier to use since the age of dial-up internet is pretty much gone and technology has come so far. My scanner would not transmit about 90% of the time, and I was always getting emails from them about it. The prizes to chose from were beyond lame. You have to put a price on how much your time is worth. Is it worth a crappy gardening set that would be maybe $5 at the store for all the work?! Not in my opinion. Finally I just sent it all back. Which, WATCH OUT when you do that! They tried to scam a bunch of money out of me when it happened! When I first got accepted, they sent a box of all the instructions, scanner, labels to return it, etc. The papers said keep all the stuff including the box to send it back in. So I did. After about a year, when I sent it all back, I took it to the PO and kept the receipt for sending it. Lucky for me that I did, because about a month later, I started getting all these letters in the mail saying they never received the scanner back and that I would be on the line for a few hundred dollars for failing to return it! They said they were going to sue me, and ruin my credit. It was kind of crazy because I started getting these threatening letters right away before I even had a chace to prove I did sent it back. I kept trying to call and explain I had sent it, but the customer service is outsourced and the people don't speak English, so I got nowhere. I finally had to make copies of the receipt and everything and send it certified/return receipt which was a pain and not cheap. Finally, after proving that I did send it, they stopped contacting me. It just seemed shady!

I have just started using the scanner. This is my 3rd week and I must admit I am seriously thinking of sending it back. Like the other posts say, it is so time consuming and I get annoyed by having to add each price and answer on whether a coupon was used. I usually have a pretty large amount of groceries when I come home, from two different grocery stores so it takes alot of time. The one good thing I noticed is I do not have to enter each price from things I buy from Krogers.
