From the sounds of this news article, it's possible that coupon inserts will be in the new Saturday combination of the paper, but the price will drop to $.50 in the metro and $.75 in Greater MN. I hope so.

If so, this is coupon heaven! For $3.50, the old price of two Sunday/early Sunday papers, we will be able to get 7 papers. W00t!

Anyone know for sure?

Star Tribune dropping Saturday newsstand edition - Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal:

The Star Tribune plans to drop its Saturday newsstand edition, replacing it with an early Sunday edition, the newspaper confirmed Tuesday.

Starting Oct. 24, the new early Sunday Star Tribune — available in newspaper boxes and on news racks — will include Saturday’s news sections along with the Sunday comics and advertisements. It will cost 50 cents in the metro area and 75 cents elsewhere, the same price as the current Saturday edition.

The new edition of the paper combines the Saturday newspaper with the so-called Sunday "bulldog," a Sunday edition of the paper that comes out Saturday afternoon. The "bulldog" will be eliminated. . . .

I don't know for sure if the coupons will be in there or not. I did see these last week at Dollar Tree on Sunday morning and they didn't have any ads in them at all. I will check this morning for any of yesterday's and let you know later. hth

Okay, I think you missed the entire point of my post. It's about an important change coming to the paper on October 24, so the papers you saw last weekend don't help to answer the question.

I'm not sure what you saw last weekend, but right now, we can buy the early Sunday edition--the "Bulldog edition" on Saturday--$1.75. It is virtually the same as the regular Sunday edition. It contains ads, comics and coupon inserts. Often, I buy this in order to get coupons for a deal that ends on a Saturday (how many times have we all found ourselves growling about a great coupon that appears the day a sale ends?); this AFC forum tips me off about the Sunday coupons so I can do better.

The Star Tribune also publishes a $.50 Saturday edition that is the same as the weekday paper. No Sunday comics, NO large # of ad circulars and no coupon inserts.

That will all change on October 24. Let me walk this through so that everyone gets the coming change.

Beginning next Saturday, the Star Tribune will only publish one paper on Saturday. It will cost $.50 in the metro and $.75 in nonmetro areas. This cheaper edition--it's $1.25 less--will contain the Sunday comics and ads.

The $1.75 "bulldog" early Sunday edition will no longer be published.

SO: Will the NEW and ONLY edition of the Star Tribune that will be put out every Saturday beginning October 24 include the coupon inserts along with the Sunday comics and the Sunday ad inserts?

If so, that $1.25 PER PAPER saving will be a mighty incentive to buy the Saturday paper STARTING OCTOBER 24 instead of the more expensive Sunday paper. Imagine being able to buy 10 papers with the coupon inserts for $5.00!!

If not, then those of us who buy the early Sunday edition that's has beenpublished on Saturday (and was published for the last time yesterday)--well, we're out of luck in trying to get coupons early.

The early edition I bought yesterday said right on the front that the new Early Sunday edition, will include all of Saturday's news plus Sunday's comics, advertising inserts and Parade Magazine for just 50 cents. The Sunday Star Tribune final edition - with Travel, A&E, etc., and the latest breaking news - will be on sale Sunday. Questions or concerns.......call 1-877-713-6250.


So I read this to mean that the coupons will still be in the Saturday paper - except now it will only cost 50 cents. I guess we will find out for sure on Saturday.

I just called the Star Tribune to cancel my newspaper subscription. I told them I will pick up the Early edition for 50 cents. She told me I could have the Sunday paper delivered for .50 cents. It will be 26.00 a year. I was paying over 100.00 a year.

wow you guys are lucky to get the early edition for 50 cents. the best i can find here is 1.75. 1.00 at the dollar tree but they are never complete.

Yes, mine had both RP and SS. I am in Western WI though so mine was 75 cents instead of 50 cents. Mine was also missing most of the ad inserts. It had the coupons though so that was a relief to see.

I almost bought a stack at Cub, but when I checked none of them had SS, only RP inserts
