Anyone else get this email? I don't think I requested a new card, so I'm assuming this promotion might have reached you guys too.

So if you get a new S&S card in the mail, make sure the first time you use your new wallet card you make it worth the extra 5% off!

When I signed up for a card after moving to NY they inadvertly sent me 25 different cards all with different numbers!

I received the new card today. The card has a magnetic strip like a credit card (for what, I don't know).

They plan on sending out 5 million of these, so that's why you got this e-mail.

I believe that they're starting up a debit-card plan. You put money on your shopper card, and it automatically pays for everything after you're all scanned and done. They get to front-load their cash flow a little bit, and also get to avoid paying credit card processors their fee. You get... a slightly shorter checkout experience. (And, apparently as a current promotion, 5% off what you buy.)

Personally, I'm not willing to pre-pay for my groceries. YMMV.

I guess it is like using a gift card. I know people who buy grocery store gift cards and just use those for their shopping and when the money is gone-- they have reached their budgeted limit and no more shopping until the next month. For those people (so disciplined) this is a good alternative.

The letter I got at S&S says this:

"The magnetic strip will be linked to a series of promotions in the future that we cannot offer through the keychain card."

Also, they'll be rolling out the A+ Bonusbucks program company-wide at the beginning of October.

I didnt get the email, the card just showed up in my mailbox today...
Although it's not my primary grocery store, I'm fairly curious to see what they'll do with the new card.

I did not receive an e-mail announcing the arrival of this card, either, but I received the card yesterday and today loaded my 5%. Even though the 5% will be deducted after coupons, something is something, I alway say!

I received the new card and keychain cards. I was happy to see the 5% off offer. I was hestitant to toss my old card, though. It just seemed so odd to get new cards out of nowhere. I never received the e-mail either. I checked my new card number against the old and once I saw they were the same I felt fine about throwing the other one out.

Still nothing here. The CSR told me we cab still use theold ones - sure would love that discount!

I got the email and new card. I have not gone to website yet because I was under the impression it was your first order and I wanted to see what will be on sale and such. 5% is not much, but better than nothing. Was hoping meat was a good sale or something hard to get coupons on etc.

I got 2 cards -- one for DH and one for me. It says 5% applied after coupons. I'm curious what happens. I'm going to get a ton of free tea and some overnight huggies (and overnight pullups if they're also on sale). Before coupons would be much better than after, but I figure it's still a savings of $0.40 a pack on the diapers even if it's after coupons. Need to remember my reusable bags.

The 5% was applied after coupons. Even still, I was really happy with my transaction. I went to a brand new store and it was SO nice.

How long did it take you all to get your new cards? I updated my contact info a week or so ago (probably longer than a week) and I STILL haven't heard anything about a new card, even though it said I'd get 5% off. I've watched my receipts carefully and haven't gotten the 5%, or the new card...

The new card came in the mail, but I didn't ask for it. My DH and I both got a set.
