Stop & Shop rolls out hand-held self-service scanners

Stop & Shop has added Modiv Media's Scan It! scan-and-bag system to 50 more stores, for a total of 145. Shoppers pick up a hand-held device as they enter a store and scan their loyalty cards, allowing the system to track the shopper's progress and offer targeted promotions.

Just want to comment that my stop and shop has had these for a long time now and I use it almost every time. It saves time once you get the hang of it - plus it gives you savings that you don't get if you don't use it. It once gave me a free 6 pack of a yogurt!! Plus you can use coupons with those savings too. They are different every time, but a lot of times they have something that saves on fruit and veges and/or meat - which I always find hard to save on. One other great thing is that you can see the price as you scan it, so I've run into a couple of times where it scans wrong and I can get the item for free when i bring it to their attention. S&S policy is to give you the first product free if it rings up wrong and any after a price adjustment - can't ever keep track when they scan my items!! Have fun and don't forget to bring your bags!! They have the plastic bags when you walk in, but it's much easier to use the ones that you can keep open in your cart!

and you get a $0.05 credit for every bag you reuse!

We have these scanners at two of my Stop & Shops, but at least one didn't have one the last time I went. Maybe with this announcement they've got them now!

I use them each week as well.

Each time you use them, the scanner has 10 savings specials ... marketed towards your purchase history, so there are actually items you will buy!

Once I had save $1.00 of Aunt Jemima Waffles, which were already on sale for 1.69 - So I got them for 69cents!

I use the reusable bags too. I bought one or two on each trip, until I had the 8 regular ones, and 2 insulated ones.
Scanning my items now, is second nature. Sure, it does take just a little more time to get used to it, but not having to empty the cart onto the belt is worth it!

We've been using the scan-it system for about a month now. I love it!

The amazing thing is the tailored savings. Now I can practically count on getting the same discounts each week. We always get a discount on Swiss Miss, Tropicana, and Palermo's pizza. It's a brilliant idea, and as others mentioned, it's especially nice when your favorite items are also on sale, and you have coupons! More chances for free food

I definitely find it quicker and easier. The vegetables take a little longer to deal with, but not having to scan and bag everything at the end is so much nicer.

I love my scanners. We have had them for awhile up here(summer maybe) and i feel weird when i don't use them. The only down fall is that the holder on the carts is right in reach of a child, my lo tries to take it and use it. I keep it in the bottom so she won't buy things or break it.

New Hyde Park, NY has it too.

DH and I tried it a few weeks ago. DH was like a kid in the candy store since he's a big Star Trek fan and to him it was like having his own phaser gun! I will definitely start to invest in the S&S bags since they are easier to pack than the plastic bags. Also, check out is such a breeze since you only need to scan your coupons and pay. GREAT IDEA!

*snort*

We have these guns at the Colesville store, and it is a pleasure taking my 7 year old to the market now. He helps to scan each item, and really gets into keeping track of our running total. ( He became bored trying to scope out blinkies for me a while ago... )

Just keep track of any items that you think don't scan correctly. It's easier that way.

They have this in the Riverhead, East Islip and Holbrook, NY stores. These work so well, especially in the Riverhead store since they have clips and a scanner holder for it. Plus, with the e-coupon, the Sobe Lifewaters always seem to come up.

I wish my store had it, but they'd probably go missing very fast.

Is there any way to find out which stores have this? (Other than driving to each of them to check).

Can anyone do it or do you have to sign up for a special stop and shop card? I see people using these all the time at my store.

Anyone can do it. Just scan your card at the scanner in the middle of the Scan-It racks. It will highlight a scanner for you to take.

I have used it and I love it. Last week I got Ragu for 75 cents a jar!! They are normally $2.50, but the in-store sale was half-off (down to $1.25) and then my scanner had another $.50 off per jar! Wahoo!
