Oh, I would like to know this too. My DH was just commenting last week that I need to inventory what I have. And I've seen some stockpile pics, how do you keep track of where you put everything?? I'm afraid I would put it in a rubbermaid bin or something I can't see thru and forget I had it. I would hate for that to happen. I hate wasting things.

Isn't that so true of a DH. Sometimes I just look at my DH and ask him, 'Are you sure you live here?'

I don't inventory, but what about a simple (and free) excel document to keep track? The only thing I keep track of is diapers, but I just have a little piece of paper for that.

I do do an inventory and have it posted on the Cellar Door/The Magic Door so I know how much I have. If I figured out how to do an attachment correctly it should be attached

I don't inventory. I have a hard enough time trying to keep up with 3 active kids, hubby, job and all the deals here on AFC! I do have mental notes...I may not know to the exact # how many jars of salsa I have but I know it's a dang lot!!!

No inventory. I just try to put it where it belongs. If I have lots of something (razors, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) it goes in a labeled box in my closet. When the box starts getting empty (), I can start looking for more.

There is no point in trying to keep track of food. It disappers on its own around here. I haven't found many deals on food yet where I was able to get more than my family would eat in a month. I only have 1 of most stores to shop at, so I am limited in how many of something I can get. The one time that I was able to find super-cheap oatmeal I devoted a shelf in the kitchen to it so it would be handy - no point in putting it in the garage where it will never be used.

Like others here, I have a pretty good idea of what we have around the house.

it's a nice idea...but I don't know that it would work for me. I would spend a lot of time creating the spreadsheet...and lose interest in keeping up with it.

for those of you who do keep inventory, how often do you update it? daily? weekly? do you physically count each time or do you just remember what you used?

I just keep a few things in the bathroom (ie a few bars of soap, 1-2 packs razors, one spare bottle body wash etc) and the rest goes in the basement. I don't have a *huge* stockpile yet so I don't know where it will go in the months to come. For now, I keep track of it in my head I am also planning on selling off most of it come Sept. at a flea market and, if all goes well, I will do the stockpile thing all next year and sell again the following fall.

Until I read this thread I didn't keep an inventory. I had things scattered about the house in the place where they belong and the extra were in a storage closet. I printed the spreadsheet that was posted and revised to fit my needs and filled it in. I was then compelled to re-arrange all of my stuff. So now the majority of everything is in the storage closet with just a couple of things in the place where it goes.

I'll tell you what, I had no idea how much stuff I have acumulated in the last month since I started doing this. Now I am wondering what in the world am I going to do with all this stuff. I guess I'll have a garage sale....or something....

I attached my list.. let me know if you think I am ready for a sale or not.. Or what do you think I should get to enhance what I already have for a sale.

I write it down as it comes in. On an index card and put that on the fridge. Even hubby looks there. I can grab it when I go to town to shop. Since there are only certain things I stockpile, I write for example;
shampoo top shelf bath room AND in closet in the bedroom
deodrant - bathroom cabinet and in overnight bag in my closet
that way I don't have to buy something I don't need. When I open something I just change the number, with a pen or pencil and don't have to worry about getting to the computer to enter the new total.

That is a great idea! But also another step and more work. I happen to have a really good memory so I don't need one at this point in my life. The only problem would be if your kids or DH took something out and did not mark that on the tally sheet!
