Nah I pretty much know where everything is and how much I have of everything at any given time. The exception to that is my chest freezer. I have to keep track of what's in there so the stuff on the bottom won't get overlooked and go bad before it's used.

well, space is limited in my house...and i try to stick to a weekly budget of how much i will spend...so i don't want to spend the money on something i already have quite a bit of and can wait until another deal..

I finally made an inventory of all the stuff that I had...It turns out that I have a TON of deoderant, and my husband has a TON of razors...But I have no razors, and he has no deoderant!

In the meantime, my DH keeps buying toothpaste and toothbrushes. Hello?? I have a big bucket of that stuff.

So, I made a list, and hopefully it will help me keep track of what we do and don't have. Atleast I can get DH to stop paying full price for stuff!!

Tape a big envolpe to the front of platic tubs, write generally whats in tub. Inventory tub, and put sheet of paper, or something, in the tub. Everytime you take something out, put a check by it.....you'll be able to find stuff, and see at a glance how many.

GREAT IDEA!
I may just use this to Keep track of what i have "lurking" in my fridge!
I dont have a stckpile BUT i did clean off my counters, Shelves and organized EVERYthing in my kitchen and guess what, 6 jars of pasta sauce (didnt know i had any! LOL) 8 Cans of Green beans, 5 BOXES of noodles, And lots of Fixings for a couple CROCKPOTS of CHILI!!
Man i think i have enugh food for a while in my house LOL

I Have LOTS of Free samples sizes of toothpaste, Shampoos, soaps, ect and i havegot to get those organized.
I think my list will be mostly for that so i can keep track of my freebies (I LOVE FREE STUFF!!!)

OH and a TIP:
If anyone wants to post a list Get some Clear Page protectors (i have a BUNCH of them)
And put your list inside it before you post it that way it doesnt get ruined.
You could also get a dry erase marker and cross off items on your list when you run out and NEVER Need to Re do your list unless you buy something new.
You could even update the number with dry erase marker (keep AWAY from the kids or else you wont know WHAT you have :-)

Hope this helped.
Thanks for the great idea Too!!!

I am going to put things, by category, in clear tubs. I will ATTEMPT, to keep a list and count in a clear page protecter taped to front of said clear tub. I think I'll do this, plan on it, we'll see how it goes in reality. I'll at least know where they are and where they go.

I cleaned out my mother's pantry once for her.. Seriously.. everything but a shelf of stuff was EXPIRED!!!

It's not that she stockpiles.. she just doesn't think she has anything. It was so sad to have to throw away 2 large black bags of food.

(This food wasn't just expired by a month or so.. like.. years.. seriously.. there was something in there, can't remember what it was, that expired in.. 96!!!!)

I like the idea of the inventory sheet because I can keep it with me when I'm shopping. If i find a great deal o x but look at my sheet and see i already have 50 of x it will stop me from buying it

Wow...are your stockpiles really this big that you have no idea what you already have at home??? I guess I have a 8 foot wide x 8 foot tall x 3 feet deep closet with shelves that I organize everything in. Other than laundry detergent/razors/dishwasher tabs/deoderants (which I have enough for probably 2 years), I don't have more than a 1 year supply of anything. Do you guys stockpile more than just toiletries? I stockpile some food, but not an overabundance...defnitely not more than a 6 month supply.

AND....where are these great stockpile pics everyone always talks about???

I tell me husband the exact same thing. After 15 years I pretty much keep things in the same spot but I can't understand why he can't find them. He calls me a million times when I am not home just to ask.

And to answer your question rori, no I have no system set up to inventory. Its pretty much by looking at my stockpile and I know exactly how much stuff we have.

I'm of the thought that if I put it where it goes then I know what I have. And I only buy what is free or almost free. So having to much only means I can share more.

Since my DD shops my stockpile trying to keep track would be a whoppin!

I don't inventory but do keep a mental inventory. I only stock on things that we use a lot of. And my teens and husband do make it go away quickly. It is stored in the hs room and those things not allowed to be taken are in the closet. Husband does go in there and I have threatened to break his fingers, (grin) and am still trying to set ground rules with him. Whew, I don't know how people feed teens and not stockpile!

We are moving into a new house in 2 weeks. It's a lot bigger than ours right now. I was thinking about getting a cabnet for the laundry room to keep all my stockpilie in. I like the idea of a spreadsheet. I might have to do that.
