| my husband HATES stockpiling! :(
Ah! He hates it. We don't have a big house, but for cheap or free I'll make space for things if I have to hang a kid from the wall to sleep and sell their bed. ![]() He would rather I just buy things when we need them. How sad! None of the logical arguments have made a dent. So much of my stock has been going to friends or the church. Which is fine, don't get me wrong. I love giving away things to people, especially if they need it. I just want to keep some stuff!!!!!!!Yesterday he told me if I died he'd throw out all of the coupons and WOULD NEVER USE ONE AGAIN?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!!!!!! Ah! ![]() Anybody else have a husband like this? Any luck converting him?

Not me. My DH didn't understand it in the begining but, totally accepted it from day one. I hope he comes around. Find creative ways to hide, er I mean stockpile, where it is organized and not taking up the counters and bags sitting everywhere. There are under the bed storage containers, and utilize the kids closets, or yours if you have to. Maybe not tell him or show him the stockpiling and savings. If he's not interested anyways, maybe soon he will see his favorite drink or snack always in the cabinet or fridge and start to come around. And remember, we will support your stockpiling. Were 'crazy' like that. LOL Good Luck, Lynda |

I told mine that it was because of my coupon shopping that we could afford his golf and starbucks addiction ( which i swear they never have any good deals on drives me nuts to pay full price) and that if he hated it so much that i would stop but he would have to as well. Never complained again!!! Now he goes with me and waits with the kids in the car while I run in from target to target. He calls it the get away car or he wait at the starbucks in the target with the kids till I'm ready to check out.

maybe sit down when he is calm and try to get to the bottom of why he has an issue with it... - time/attention you spend on it [people can be jealous over the craziest things] - money that can go for other things [maybe he doesn't believe the $$$] - space/clutter - ??? ...maybe once you discuss it, you can come to an understanding

javaaddict i can total relate to you!!! my Hubbie hates me couponing the time, mess and me being on my computer and going or being around me at a store and gives me a hard time about my stockroom. he's pretty much also said he would never use coupons and would also throw it all out if something ever happened to me. i too am having a hard time him accepting me doing this, but i have noticed (thinking about it now) that over the past 2 months he has been with me at the store and seen me in action and i think now he understands a little more, he asked me one time why i do it and i told him that i feel its my job that since i'm a stay at home mom i dont have a real paying job so i feel that i should make the most out of the money he works hiss butt off for, and if anything was to ever happen to me i like the thought of him and kaitlyn my 3 yr old dd would be taken care of on stuff like that, cause i would not be there to find the good deals and if likely i did die he would also have the added child care cost. we go over it over and over and i don't know that he will ever get it and accept it! heres to hoping you have a easier time trying to get your hubbie on board ![]() i'm also envies the woman on here that have there hubbies support, please don't think bad of me for saying this its just hard not having hubbies support when trying to help your family out!

Try this - It worked for me and we haven't had the discussions since - except about toothpaste. I have a quota I can't exceed on toothpaste in the stockpile. Take all the dollars that you would have spent if you had not used coupons for 1 month. And bill him that amount. Seriously, just write up a bill, attach all the receipts showing your savings, and hand it to him. Then when the questions come of what's this? Tell him that that is what you will be paying this month to not use coupons. Just be careful to not buy stuff that month that he is adamant that you guys don't use. Like 23 tofu steaks or something like that. Or go the other way for a month and only spend the amount you spend now after q's but don't use any - I know that's like pergatory for me, too. But if you are like most of us, about the time you recover from the register shock, and feel rested from not putting things away, he's going to start looking for the extras that he has now with Qs that won't be there. He'll come around as soon as he has to go without something. And if nothing else, set a limit on how many of something is a reasonable number for you both. For us the toothpaste and cereal made DH crazy. So we agreed to a limit of 30. But he is perfectly ok with a bazillion rolls of TP. Maybe it is just a few items that are really bugging him. They are guys so they are wired funny. Good luck !!! |

At first my DH wasn't too crazy about it either, I could tell it bothered him actually and he called it wasting money(perhaps the first few times I did it I bought a few things that I wouldn't now)...but after a while I started getting some stuff he actually wanted (like a PS3 game paid with overage from Crest Whitestrips!) and now I think he supports me, he even helps me cut coupons sometimes and he finds them in the store for me, and asks if I'm going to brag about it on here(This is me bragging!) =) He is a little bothered by the stockpile at times, like when he opens the hall closet and all the Airwicks fall out but he supports me now, and that makes me happy=)Hopefully your DH will catch on this is like a hobby, if he has a hobby you can liken it to that =)

I guess i feel lucky when i first started he asked me what i was doing. He kind of laughed and said "i dont use coupons". So i said come to the store with me, So he did and we got all of the things on the list plus some extra deals like free razors with a MF coupon and after it was all rung up he looked at the receipt and said wholly crap KJ. So the next day i came home from a doctors appt and he was sitting on the couch organizing my coupons and showing me how he thought it would be easier for me to keep track of them! He will now while we go shopping pick up and item and ask if we have a coupon and if we dont its like pulling his teeth to get him to buy it. Lol. He is almost as bad as me. Lol..

My husband thought I was crazy when I started doing this, and would make little remarks about the 2 bazillion candles and would actually groan when I would come in with another 10 boxes of hefty bags, but when I tossed the Kroger receipt at him with a savings of over 80 percent on foods we actually eat.....He stopped!! We went to toys r us one day to get him a new Nerf gun.............because HE found a coupon for it...He was so proud!!!! Now he encourages it, and when I said we don't need 46 tubes of toothpaste, he said...."But they are free"

mine thought my use of Qs reflected on his ability to support us. like he wasnt doing a good enough job because only poor people used Qs, LOL so I stopped using Qs for a month two weeks in, he was handing qs to me asking if we could use it I told him nope, no Qs this month, LOL by the start of week 4 he was apologising and asking me to stop the experiment. I made him wait... Men can be really pigheaded sometimes, LOL

I am a DH, so let me give you my advice (and perhaps another guy can comment as well): Just leave him alone about it. Don't talk about it all the time. Don't feel like you have to share (as in tell him all the details) your every deal with him. Don't feel that you need to include him in your latest "coupon adventure". Obviously he's not interested in it, so don't burden him with it. And if you have a bitchy cashier during a bad trip to Target (or wherever) and it totally ruins your day, don't mention it to him ... just deal with it and move on! Because when you come home happy about something that he doesn't understand, he will just be annoyed by it because you feel like you have to tell him all about it. And when you come home ticked off about something, he'll just want to "fix it" by telling you to quit couponing and never look back. My suggestion: you should go about your business, do your deals, collect your inserts, and involve him as little as you can with it. If you do that, if you truly leave him alone about it, one of two things will happen: either he'll stop having a bad opinion about it because it no longer affects him, or he'll actually start having a good opinion about it when it finally sinks in about how much money you save the family. Just one man's opinion, and one man's advice .... |

My DH just sort of ignored my couponing at first. He wasn't bothered by it but he didn't really "support" it either. Than when the Starbucks ice cream deal came down at the commy and he got all that yummy ice cream for free, he started pitching in. He got me a subscription to the Sunday paper when we moved here to SC and he asks me what the deals are every week. He even made me a spreadsheet to track my savings. It's kind of funny because now when we shop together, he's like "do you have a coupon for this?" I LOVE it!! Of course it took him months to get to this point but once they come to the dark side they never go back!!!

I have to tell you that it did take some time. At first my DH only saw it as taking time away from him. Then he did his best to embrass it. He bought and put together the shelves I needed in my the spare room closet to hold my stockpile...... However it didnt really come together until I deployed. When I left he made little jokes about my stockpile..and there being so much stuff in the house... But when he realized that he never had to go to the store for anything but bread and milk, it made him pretty happy. When he runs out of shampoo, conditioner, or even shaving cream, Ive stocked all his faves in the "stockpile" closet, and he now appreciates it. He's now running low on his after shave lotion..and jokes about needing me to come home early to refill his stock. I will be more than happy to, also knowing I will no longer get grief for it. ![]() I do wish you the best of luck. Darn DHs are stubborn (at first) eh??
