My husband at first didn't think that you really saved any money. But after he started looking at the receipts and seeing exactly how much I have saved he doesn't say much any more. I do wish though that I had more space. My house i sooooo small, I think I may have to hang my kids on the wall. |

i think that my dh may feel jealous of the "coupons" at times..it takes organization and time to go to the stores..but i have been able to balance it more now that my stockpile has been built up..couponing is my "third" job, first to mommy/wife and second that i work fulltime..nowwww, he is so proud of me and my hobby that HE blogs about me and takes pics..i could care less about that part, but he wants to show all of his friends how smart his wife is, LOL, i say "whatever, where's the sale?!"

I just recently started doing coupons more and more. My husband is slowly coming around. I just tell him "You spend an hour playing your computer game and I spend my hour doing this"

My DH humored me on my first foray into Wags - I had a $0.00 balance and made RR in return, and he was all " " Now he can go into Wags and get a lower OOP than I can, and he has a great eye for peelies/tearpads/etc. in the stores. I think what really sold him is that we wanted to save $200 for a 3D/4D ultrasound by December. I started couponing seriously at the end of September, and as you can tell by my savings meter, we've hit that goal. Thanks, AFC!

When I first started couponing, the boyfriend was not amused. I would bounce deals off of him to see what he would think, and he was really apathetic to the whole thing. He would drag his feet up and down the aisles while I searched through my coupon holder, and actually refused to push the cart with my big binder perched in the kiddie seat. So, I boycotted coupons for a while and when the total at the store was $90 for groceries and toiletries and I didn't have a stack of coupons waiting to slash the total in half, he broke into cold sweats at the register and looked like he was going to have a heart attack. I just smiled. That one trip was enough for him to realize that he had taken for granted my service and my part in "earning" money by saving for the house. Now when we go shopping, he happily pushes the cart down the aisle and even tells the people behind us in line "She's got a whole mess of coupons!" with a big grin on his face. |

I'm new on here...actually have been lurking/learning for a while. I've been couponing since September when I realized I had a spending problem and decided to put an end to it. It was not unusual for me to spend $1500+ a month on groceries (for a family of 6...not that that is justification for that much money). I was actually at a point where I was putting bills off to 'grocery shop'. Luckily, I realized my problem before sending my family into ruin. In turn, I decided to start couponing. I had used coupons in the past but only on a few things here and there. Definately not to the extent that I do now. I can happily say I have more in my house now and only spend a 1/3 of what I used to and I have accumulated quite a stockpile in a very short period of time. The first week I bought newspapers my mother knocked them down and in the process of picking them up my husband was annoyed and made the comment of 'I don't see how she thinks this is going to save us'. I turned him around within a couple weeks - after I discovered CVS. My first trip(s) there I spent 16 dollars and brought home 68 dollars worth of stuff...all stuff we need and use. I had FREE toilet paper. After I showed him the receipts and how much I saved he was in shock. Plus I started stockpiling 'his' things: deodorant, shaving cream, m&m's, cereal, etc. He never runs out of anything. I can tell he still gets a little stuffy about some of the time I spend clipping and organizing so I try to put that off until he is busy with something or I'm home and he is not. Then there are nights, like last night, when I planned my CVS trip. I hadn't had a chance to clip all the coupons I got on Sunday so it took me some more time than usual to organize and plan my trip. He did get a little annoyed...but that will quickly disappear when he sees my haul tonight. To add to all of this - all of our bills are caught up, on time and we never run out of food anymore and I'm so disciplined now I do not forget stuff when I am at the store. Not that my situation helps yours but I was thinking...maybe it is an ego thing. I remember reading somewhere that men feel as though they need to provide and coupons make them feel like they are not doing their 'job' of providing properly. Maybe you could find a way to tackle his issues with that angle.

Keep really, really good track of what you're saving! And add it up, and show him on paper how much money you're saving. If you stockpile paper towels because you got them for $1 and they are usually $5, make sure you've written that down too. Sometimes, some people need the evidence spelled out right in front of them in the most direct way possible.

My DH is very supportive. He actually brags to people about the deals I get. He laughs at the fact that I have not bought toothbrushes or tooth paste in a year, and we still have about 50 toothbrushes and 20 tubes of toothpaste in the closet.

Also, besides money saved, every time you get something cheap out of your stockpile don't forget to add the cost of gas (assuming you bought those $1 paper towels all at once) The money will add up on paper and in the bank, and he might just change his mind!

At first DH was like "oh great".. then he started seeing the $$$ I was saving. He still gets in his "we don't have room for all this stuff" jabs when I get home. I have rearranged closets and stuff to make room though. Now he asks me every time I come home "How much $$ did we save".. and he always tells people that I am "scamming" Target or Walgreens or wherever LOL But he realizes how nice it is when we run out of something and there is more of it in the closet! Now before he buys anything he is like "Do you have a coupon for this?" He is getting there slowly and if he makes any remarks I just remind him that he spends $$$ on eating out everyday and Xbox games- that usually shuts him up real quick! |

my dh doesn't really understand it, unless I can get something really cheap for something he uses. Like razors. He told me to stock up on those and got really excited about it. But he doesn't really HATE it so to say, he just hates how much space it takes up in the closet

My dh didn't understand it at first and kind of question if we were really saving money but then when he saw all the stuff I was getting for free he was ok with it. He still really understand how it all works just knows we have what we need and can actually afford it. I started stockpiling right about a year ago and my dh went overseas for a few months for work, he came back and ended up unemployed so a lot of what I had stockpiled had really saved our butts cuz we had no income coming in for a couple months. Dh just went back overseas a month ago and right before he left he asked me to go to the store to get him razors (the fusion ones), he had forgotten I stockpiled a ton of these I went to the drawer and we still had 3 of his razors in there and about 8 packs of mine and I haven't bought razors since probably Feb.

I got lucky in this department. He doesn't care, in fact, he himself LOVES to get the deals, so I am grateful he is so supporting. I would just try to put them away more nicely... totes under the beds, etc. If there's a will there's a way.

I just started couponing and my bf thinks it is great that I'm saving money. He is unemployed right now so we are living on just my teacher salary. Coupons have helped me be less stressed about paying the bills. He helps me cut them out and will even print them off the net for me! |
