My DH loves the savings and having the things here when he needs/wants them. He isn't a shopper though and has said that it is a good thing i will have him stocked for a while if anything ever happens to me. He said there is no way he would ever put this much time or effort into couponing and going to different stores to get the best possible deal. He keeps laughing at me and telling me the only thing the kids will get if something happens to both of us is a stockpile. Well atleast they will be set for a while. But yet if we run out of something he wants/needs he is always like why i don't we have any more. You always have extras. My excuse right now is cause HT hasn't done super doubles or triples lately. But i hate running to the store for just one item like dish soap or laundry detergent because when i go for something so small it ends up being a huge bill, so i just keep those on hand all the time.

My DH likes the fact that I have been saving money, but when he came home last night, he yelled at me because he thinks that I maybe saving money with coupons but i am wasting "Gas" going from store to store every day. I was so angry last night it was crazy. I tried to explain to him that i was not wasting that much gas, but he didn't believe me. My DH is a pessimistic person and it drives me crazy. He finds things to complain about. Anyways, I just buy what i want and then usually just put it in the cupboard or in the garage and he is never the wiser. |

My DH doesn't mind my stockpiling as long as I put it away as soon as I get it. We also had to go out and buy some small shelves for the kitchen and a organizer for the baby's room. I think as long as you stay organized and don't look cluttered it will be ok

My DH is WAY supportive, even cuts my Qs out! I staple and he cuts, we get it done a lot quicker that way...my only gripe is that he wants to sell it all the time! We had 3 yard sales this summer and made a lot of $$ so he is always suggesting we sell but I worry about running out before the next deal. I know, not much to gripe about...I'm actually pretty friggin lucky he helps me out a lot!

My bf has been 100% supportive since the begining. I was the one who thought coupons were for poor people. We wouldn't be able to have what we have now had it not been for couponing. It's my little hobby and I enjoy doing it. He loves to brag to all his friends and we have been able to help some friends out thanks to it.

my wife is starting to come around.....every now and then she asks me if we have a coupon for something.. It all started just before I found afc, we were buying bounty and charmin at sams club in bulk and paying way too much. Came to a point where we just couldn't afford it, so then we started buying the cheapest tp we could find and while it didn't bother me she hated it. Thats when i found the cottonelle deal, well she thought i was crazy at first.....but i flat out told her its one of three things; cottonelle, super cheap sand paper nasty tp, or newspapers She's been understanding since.

My DH doesn't mind too much. I think he thinks it's great that I am saving money. I just wish I could get my grocery bill down more! He will come with me shopping most of the time. He has even made one coupon trip for me! He has also helped me cut coupons before, but he is a little OCD and they have to be absolutely perfect so it takes him a lot longer to cut them than it takes me.

I started this when I was pregnant with my second. I couldnt afford my first maternity leave so I was darned if I was giving up this one early. So I stockpiled and my husband just thought it was a nesting thing and it was going to stop when the baby came. Haden is going to be 2 next month. We were able to start an account of "savings" with all that we bought and then I let him treat himself to a Sportster. I also say that my hobbies pay for his. He even does runs for me as long as I map things out for him, which is hilarious cuz he'll always tell the cashier, "my wife does this, you know, but I don't mind, I got a Harley..." he's like a little kid now.

OK...I have a great DH but he doesn't get it...he says just because something is FREE doesn't mean I need it. My DS went to bed the other night (early) before I came home from shopping so he didn't have to help carry bags in and/or help put anything up...ugh! BUT when they bring all the football friends over & their is plenty of everything for everyone I'm the hero...so much so that even 1 of my DS14 friend's brought me a handfull of Q's that his mom doesn't use...LOL...that was so cute & fun! OK...back to DH. He doesn't get it at all, he doesn't care to hear about it, and I think it embarasses him when ppl come over to visit...the only thing I wish (sometimes) is that he would say "thanks" for something already being there (like cookies late at night) and not having to "wish" he had some. Hang in there & keep doing what you do...I know that deep down my husband is happy to have his late night snacks on hand ;p

I remember reading somewhere- and it was probably here and I don't remember who said it and I apologize for that- As far as the coupon usage, to just tell DH that you're going to take the amount you save and put it in a piggy bank or whatever, every time you use a coupon, you're going to "keep" the amount you saved. He probably won't care because he doesn't see the point. You, of course, know this is a trick and in a couple months you'll have enough cash to go get a new outfit or take yourself out to a nice dinner. Or if you're trying to stay nice, you could save up for something the two of you could share (if you insist). The stockpiling- I admit I didn't have a prob with this myself since DH is a "survivalist" so he totally gets the concept. I would say it's a Dr. Phil Find-His-Currency situation. I don't know your DH so I don't know what his currency is. But there's something you can hit on. Fear of losing employment. Fear of aliens and having to barricade yourself inside the house so ET can't find him. Wanting a new toy that he can't afford. Fear the economy is going to completely tank out and the dollar won't be worth anything. The idea of "sticking it to the man" and doing it more as a game. Fear that gas prices will go so high that you'll have to cut your budget and he won't get any more Lay's chips. I'm thinking there's something there, with him, that you have to figure out.

Not much advice for ya, but I had to comment on a few posts: - Totally cracking up about the PP who talked about her husband opening the closet and the Airwicks falling out. I can just picture that. :<} - Love seeing the comments/suggestions from the guys on here!! So cool to have them around. - My DH appreciates how much money I'm saving, so he doesn't say too much. We don't have much storage space at our house, so I really don't stockpile too much. It is nice for him when he opens the bathroom cabinet and soap/toothpaste/shampoo/deo, etc magically appear. |

I feel so lucky after reading this thread...it amazes me that anyone would have a problem with saving money...especially in this economy. My dh has always been so supportive and always asks about my deals. He only goes to the store after work to get his tobacco and whiskey (I have to say he is a bit of a saver himself as he rolls his own cigarettes everyday and has gotten it down to under $20 a month... ) but he now he walks around the store to see if theres anything on sale that week (its a store I dont normally go to so this helps alot!) He is the one that told me about the Hamburger Helper deal where I got them for 50 cents a box! and Cheerios for 8 cents a box! GO DH! He is proud of me too and has even brought a couple of his friends in to witness my stockpile..hahaha...he says..give them the tour! I have worried that I spend $ on things I normally wouldn't...like candles and air freshners etc..so I asked him about it and he said..if it's cheap and you like it and we have the $...DO IT. If theres ever a time when we need to save that dollar...then lay off for awhile. He is proud of me for saving his hard earned money. We have 4 kids to raise and it has been such a huge help to us and I am seeing a big difference in our budget now. I need to give him a big hug and kiss tonight when he gets home! ![]() to all of those who's dh's and wives aren't so supportive...hang in there..get your cheap/free goodies and post on here...we are your couponing family ![]() oh and we also do this to help see savings grow...I only use bills to pay for my WAGS/CVS/TARGET deals and all the change at the end of my trip gets thrown into a huge plastic jar in our bedroom...I have rolled most of it and it's just under $300!! DH puts all his change in it too...we have done this since March of this year. we are saving for a new tv (we have an oldie with the digital box thing) When we get the new tv for the living room dh gets the old one and the box for his garage ....win/win! It makes saving kinds fun

It has taken pretty much this whole year to TOTALLY transform my dh. He initially rolled his eyes and growled when he saw cereal box # 20 come in the house. But by summer he installed more and bigger shelving in the garage and laundry room. By the end of summer he was inviting his mom to come up so I could take her shopping. Now, instead of "what's for dinner", he fixes it! Instead of "I'm gonna swing by the store and grab something for dinner", it's "what meats are on sale" and "gather the list and coupons so I can just run in for them and then run out to the store". He knows this site well enough (and a few others) that he can figure out the next couple weeks of snack foods and meal stuff I'll be buying. LOL I actually got up to about 80 boxes of cereal, but now we, regardless of sale price, maintain it at about 25 boxes or so. LOL We have ALOT of space for stockpiling, but if ur cramped, try using the under-the-bed storage boxes for toiletries and non-perishables. My teabags, ziploc stuff, mac&ch, and mayo are all in my laundry room!!!!!!!! LOLOLOL And the kids all have the boxes under their beds for their specific toiletries. The 117 free razors I have left are in the laundry room (5 of us use razors!). All those free travel size items... toss them in a Target bag and hook the handles over a hanger... hang them in the back or your closet! I have front-loaders with the drawers underneath and one of them is full of travel hand lotion, qtips and deodorant.Best of luck. And my best recommendation is find creative ways of storing your stock.

I have been married for 5 years now and even before I met my husband I was a bargain shopper, with and without coupons. He knew that, although he had no idea to what extreme...LOL At first (the first 1 1/2 years) it drove him crazy, I worked full time and spent lots of free time searching and clipping coupons and matching with adds (Pre AFC days) But in the last few years he has been great about it, and although sometimes it is aggravating to him that there is so much stored in our house, he is always greatful for the $$ I save the family. About a year ago I surprised him at work one day and overheard him talking to his coworkers while he was eating lunch...he said "Look at all this great stuff my wife puts in my lunch, I bet it only cost her a quarter for all of it together!" The guys laughed and he said "No really, that woman can go into the store with $5 and walk out with a basketful of stuff" so I walked up to him and gave him a huge hug for bragging on me, since then I catch him doing things like that all the time to our friends and family. With times the way they are right now, several of our friends, family, and neighbors have had to really tighten their belt. We struggle like everyone else, but we always have what we need here at our house. He laughs at me now b/c at least once a week I am handing out goodie bags from my stockpile to the neighbors and the are so appreciative for it. On a trip to Target the other day I was getting the Glade deal and a few other freebies and he said "Hey honey, I found a bunch of clearance items on an endcap and they have peelies on them!" I laughed so hard! A few years ago he would have not even known whatan endcap or a peelie was! LOL Now he is helping me with the deals! I have also gotten him to use coupons o his own at places like Radio shack and Pep Boys when he goes to buy parts or tools!

Mine was a pain in the butt about it but, I showed him my receipts that have the total savings for the year. (food lion, CVS, etc) I told him when we have an extra $8,000 lying around I'll stop stockpiling. He offered to build me shelves. LOL. Maybe that will help.

My DH doesn't want to hear about rolling ECBs at CVS or stacking coupons at Target but he has started asking me recently whether or not I have coupons for things that he is picking up. When I first started stockpiling it totally freaked him out, he didn't understand that it makes sense to stock up when something it is on sale. He still doesn't like seeing all the toothpaste in the HBA stockpile closet but I tell him that I won't turn down free toothpaste unless we run out of space for it; plus I'll probably start donating some of it when my daughter does charitable activities with her brownie troop.

WOW! I can sooooo relate to this thread!!! My DH hates stockpiling. He thinks its clutter, even though it is totally out of his site. He likes to tell me regularily that "I have a problem" Whatever. He hates coupons, he dosn't care if i save money, he would rather just buy the items every week as i need them. I have shown him my receips proving that i only spend 74 cents (usually the tax) or so on but he dosn't care. He thinks it cost us money by sitting on the shelf....If i only payed 12 cents for it and dont need it for 3 months it costs you....blah blah blah. I stopped listening to him. I stay home with the kids, we have 4. They do go to daycare once a week for a couple of hours for what i like to think of as "socialization". This is when i run to the next town and powershop really quick for my deals. I realize i am paying daycare, but the kids need to play with other kids and i usually have only 2 there anyways. I try to go the days my daughter is at preschool and my husband takes my son to the farm. (and i don't tell him i am going shopping) I only ever tell him if i get "caught" giggle giggle. We have an attached garage that we do not use for a vehicle. It is insalated and works perfect for my stockpile and junk I have the walls lines with shelves. I think it looks like a grocery store, as it is all organized by date and product. he calls it my "food shelf". I also think that using coupons to him means that I have to use them because he can't provide. I think i use our money wisely so he can spend more. (he is pretty frivelous, if he wants something he will buy it.) ahhhhhh grrrrr. This morning he went for an oil change, i said i have a $10 off coupon, he looked at me like I was an idiot and he said "i don't use coupons". 10 bucks is 10 bucks. Thanks for letting me ramble. This has been a constant fight for us in our house lately. He never complains that we are out of something, and we always have lots of pop, etc. and I thank my stockpile for this. I love the deals and will continue to stockpile and coupon no matter his feelings.
