I hear you on the driving in winter. I'm 45 min drive from my nearest walmart, cub, kmart, and target (regular target, not super), and walgreens. I live in MN and winters are harsh. I hate reading on a great deal and know that the roads are horrible, or we are in a blizzard. Food is the hardest for me to stockpile too. I think that is because living in a small rural farming town, being so far from the bigger town with decent stores, I only shop once a week there. And we consume our food faster than the rest of our stockpile items. I only have three kids, and two adults, but my DS14, is taking on the sterio typical teen boy, eating me out of house and home. LOL Good luck building your stockpile, and don't be discourgaged if it takes a little while to build up the food. I've been doing this for 5 years and still find it hard. We love looking at pics. I know the thing about my family staying out of the food stock pile...... ![]() What I have done is, I have hidden away in my room extra packs of cookies, chips fruit snacks, granola bars. That side of the closest stays closed because it is behind the bathroom door. And my kids which are 17,11 and almost 2 don't even realize that they are there. It is so funny. That is where I hide their christmas stuff as well. and their stocking stuffers. When I put the snacks in there the other day, I actually found a package of easter bunny chocolates that I forgot about....... |

I am in the same shoes as you. Town is over 15 minutes away and there are no level roads to get there. I would like to be able to have enough to not have to go out in the snow but maybe once a week if that. (I only have to trek out to the PO Box because there is no street mail). I have a small amount of stockpile added up and want to make sure I have enough of the little things like you had mentioned. TP being the most important. I would like to have 6 months of HBA/Household stocked up and enough food to make meals for up to 3 weeks without leaving. Thanks for sharing. My reply was a little long, but I feel like we are in the same position. I just wonder if I am starting too late for this winter. I am always behind.... |
