OK--I'm new, so please forgive me for my potentially silly question, but why do you stockpile?? I've looked through some of your VERY impressive pics, and I just can't see myself and my husband ever using that much stuff. Plus, wouldn't you run out of things to shop for? I must be missing something...please enlighten me! Thanks!!!

So that i never have to pay full price for anything (hopefully) ever again! And there's a sense of security knowing that if something happened and I couldnt get to the store, my four kids would have everything they need right here for a long while at least.

I love knowing that if I run out of something that I just have to run to my stockpile instead of the store and paying full price. Everyone has their own personal needs to stockpile. if your house hold only has 2 people then maybe you aren't gonna have a huge stockpile. we are a family of 4,me,DH< DS and DD. we all use different kinds of shampoo and bodywash etc. I like knowing that we have backups that I paid little or nothing for. to me that just makes good sense money wise. Plus my kids are in college and work and we go in 4 different directions, sooo, there is always what ever they need for breakfast, lunch, school supplies, household goods at their finger tips. it just seems to work and make sense for us.

Same here...Just Hubby, me, and a 3 yr old, plus one on the way. I stockpile because it saves me a trip to get something at the store and pay full price when I can stockpile a ton of it. Also, I can give alot to in-laws who live next door so I save them some dollars. I used to just go to the store when I ran out, but w/o a coupon I would literally spend a fortune, now I can just stock up, that way if I need it I have it, and if anyone else gets in a bind I have stuff to help them. Lastly...if I can get stuff for free, or for just a few cents, then I will donate alot of it to the Animal Shelter (like the Chef Michael's dog food at Target right now..donated a ton), and the food shelf, who always is in need. That way I'm saving tons, but also providing to people in need

Everyone has their own reason for stockpiling. Some stockpile to save money obviously, Instead of buying things at full price why not buy enough at the lowest sale price and use a coupon. Some people buy more then they will need so they can donate it to families that are struggling, animal shelters, ect.

With a family of 5 and 2 big dogs we go through some stuff very quickly. I hate having topay full price for something when I know I didn't have too. Plus with the fear of job loss, having a stockpile will help ease the burden when money is tight.

I stockpile to help my elderly parents and my disabled aunt. Not to mention with 3 men (dh, and son #1 and son #2 all over 6 ft tall) in the house they eat, drink and poop a lot. Plus I really enjoy not having to go run out to the store for something I just send the boys to the pantry.

I stockpile for a lot of reasons, several of the reasons are already posted. Right now my favorite reason to stockpile awesome deals is I am totally 'shopping' from my stockpile for Christmas. I'm so excited about the fun gift baskets that I get to make for family/friends/charity... something I would never be able to do if I didn't have my little collection of frees/super cheap throughout the year. It's also really nice to be able help out people in need or give a little pick up gift to a friend... a double blessing, the joy of giving, seeing the joy on their faces and the joy of my family still getting to eat because I didn't blow all of our money on gifts

I enjoy not running out of things. Getting things for free or little to free so that I don't have to pay full price on things that I do use, and helping family and friends out if I have enough that I know I'll never use it up. It just makes sense to me.

My stockpile is smaller than most, its just me and my DS. The reason I do it is because for me its a security issue. Being a single mom (with 0 child support), I constantly worry about $$$$, couponing and stockpiling has kept me sane over the last few months. I know at the end of the day we have plenty of everything we need to last us for some time. That feeling of security is priceless to me.

Yeah, what everyone else said. If it's just for you and your DH, you can start by stockpiling stuff you use a lot. Then, it's VERY possible you'll become addicted!!! Then, you'll see. I admit to thinking it was kinda crazy at first...then, I started shopping and saving and then stockpiling followed!

There are a couple keys to stockpiling. First is to have multiple coupons so that when there is a deal, you can buy a lot. You can trade, buy multiple coupons or ask friends and neighbors for their unwanted coupons. The next key is to get the deals each week. There is always something free. I shop 2 stores regularly, and then 2 others when there are triples or super doubles. We converted an unused closet right off the kitchen into a spare pantry with big shelves. Then bought 2 big set of shelves for the garage. I love having lots of things on hand to choose from for meals. I love being able to give bags of groceries to those who are struggling. And my neighbor shops my deals because she doesn't know how to do what I do. My husband's coworker's family was in a bad flood in WV. I was able to load his car up 5 times with things to give her for her family. It does take a switch in thinking to go from buying what you will need that week to buying what the deals are - anticipation buying. Buy it free or really cheap because someday you may need it or someone else will. |

I'd been couponing for a while, but not really going full bore until a few months ago. When it comes to stockpiling, the way I see it is why get a deal once when I can get it 4 or 5 times and have enough of that item to last until the next do. To me, stockpiling just makes the most sense.

What I have wouldn't really be considered a stockpile I don't think, but I've already overpurchased for my grown kids' Christmas stockings, so I've decided I guess I'll do Easter baskets too LOL.....

Well I have a small stockpile of things, but mine goes very fast to family members, when they run out of anything they know where to go..I recently was talking to my friend who are having a lot of problems with money right now, so what I did was made up a box of my stockpile things, (again not much) but just things like paper plates, paper towels, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, razors, etc....I went up and just left in on there front porch, and of course she knew it was from me, but they were thrilled with the things I sent up...so thats what I do with my stockpile things....They do come in handy...

I stockpile so I don't have to pay full price later one. Especially with paper products. Its satisfying to me to just go "out to the garage shelves" to grab a roll of paper towels/package of toilet paper/package of napkins, etc. Food items I don't stock too crazy. I just buy enough for a couple months worth. I always rotate food items and make sure to grab the "older" ones. My husband is a manager at a factory. Its very fickle right now. He has a job, but we are always on edge. One week he will get his 40 hours. Next week he will be sent home and only get 32 hours. Some weeks he gets overtime. So basically I just like to make sure if I can get items cheap or free, I do. You just never know. |

As my husband and I say, "You don't question free!" I get anything that's free to save money, and if I can't use it, I pass it on to family or the local crisis center. I stockpile because I when I'm teaching at the local university in the spring and fall, I get too busy to shop, so I can go for 3-6 months without having a big shopping trip. It was also great this summer when I had horrible morning sickness and couldn't get off the couch! Now I'm stockpiling things to make life easier after baby comes, like paper plates and towels, quart plastic bags, soap, and easy prep foods. |

I reiterate what everyone else is saying - the amount of savings at not running to the store for nonsale, no coupon items is great. And the ease of just going to my shelves for things I need is lovely. My husband just built some shelves in our basement for me (from left over wood from our old play center - the kids are too old for it). So I have been moving stashed items from cupboards, closets to a more organized and neat setting. |
