I help out friends and family too when my stockpile gets out of control.

for me, these prevent me from going overboard:

1. Keep peace at home at all cost. if DH starts giving hints shopping bags are everywhere and need to be put up, it means I have been shopping more than I can handle. I quit immediately.

2. if all possible spaces have been filled up in the house to keep them tidy, time to quit.

3. if recipients are saying they have enough, time to quit giving them more.

the most important factor for me is #1, I will not sacrifice peace in the home for any savings. DH is very reasonable so when he starts giving hints, it means things have gone way overboard. Time to attend to other more important things. I'm grateful to have DH to keep me in check

I rotate & donate. My donations go to a domestic violence shelter in the county over from mine (for h&ba products). My parents live at poverty level (though both work fulltime) so everytime they come to visit, I give them 3 or 4 really big boxes of toiletries, cleaning stuff and food. That keeps my stockpile manageable and in current dates.
