I wonder if you all would be kind enough to share what you think about the prices for our yard sale on Saturday. We live in Northeastern PA - just outside some big cities. I have a decent stockpile and would like to make some money, but dont want to price too low or too high. Thanks for any help!

*I realize some of you might not agree with having a yard sale, but unless you can pray and make it rain on Saturday, I will be having one! *

Some of the prices seem a little high to me. Just because a lot of people that go to yardsales are looking to save atleast 75% off of store prices even if the item is new because they obviously can't change their mind and return; they don't know what kind of conditions you were storing them in; they can't use coupons; etc. They are usually pretty thrifty even if they aren't hardcore couponers like us. Either way good luck with your yardsale

here's some tips I can share from ehem....experience

1. pricing depends on your location and the type of buyers. I know areas where shampoo/cond/stylers fly @ 2.50 or higher if they live in high traffic areas and store prices are sky high. SIL tried yard selling and she lives in the boonies so that full size shampoo/conditioners won't even sell @ $1

2. do a test pricing on some stuff. example: I put $6 on the Lysol neutra air starter kits and they were gone in a flash. These are 11.94 reg price at WM and 12.49 at WAG. the next round I placed $8 and they're still still getting sold. so you can do a test price and go low if there are no takers, but if they fly out the shelves soon as you put them out, ask yourself if you like to make a little more profit

3. so some specials like stores. I put out ALL ITEMS IN THIS TABLE FOR A DOLLAR. I put all items there that I got more than free from RR/GC promos. This makes people go further inside so they find something they like along the way.

4. I've been approached by some ebayers asking for special discounts and I tell them if they'd buy at least $100 worth of already discounted items, I will give them extras.

5. if you can put up more items for people to see, they will flock to your yard sale. the more items they see encourages them to stop and look. if there's very few they see, some don't even bother to stop. For us, we put out baby toys outside to attract customers. Furnitures also attract customers.

6. make sure you have a lot of help if you're planning a big sale. learn from some of us who have been victimized by thieves. watch and monitor closely and don't leave your cashbox unattented at any time. its best to have a belt bag so you have ready change all the time.

Looks good to me! I sold razors w/ cartridge (Fusion) for $2, and wish I would have priced it higher--they were gone so fast. Look at it this way, if after 2 hours an item isn't budging, you can lower the price.

I REALLY hope you have at least 1 other person helping you. I just finished a sale last weekend, got a video game swiped out from literally just under my nose. We think people took CDs out of the case too, and either put them in their pocket, or in w/ other CDs they were purchasing. I guess I'm just appalled that people actually steal from a yard sale, but apparently it's quite common, so just be on guard.

I use to live in NW PA and use to have sales all the time.
I generally did well at 50% off the retail price.
Some items you might have to adjust up or down depending on your shoppers.
But I think all your prices look great!
I hope you sell tons!

I set up at a fleamarket last week.

Garnier sold like wild-fire... All $1-$1.50 (hairspray especially)
Floss .75
Pet items $1-$3
Gum .50 a pack

Now my Lysol Neutra Air systems sold out at $4 a piece. I see you have them at $3. I was thinking about lowering them, but by mid-afternoon they were gone (over 20 of them)

My Palmolive and Dawn almost sold out at $1 a piece

Pringles sold out (over 30 of them) at $1 a piece.

Pop Tarts sold out at $1.50 a piece (had over 30 of them too)


Im heading out saturday again. Last week made $614 so hopefully I can do the same.

Well, if anyone else looks at this, I'm considering raising the price of the Lysol Neutra Air to $5 a box and see how they do, and the smaller air wick and sense and sprays to $3. Everything else I'm feeling pretty comfortable with. Thanks so much for all your feedback, I'll post a new thread to tell you all how we did!!
