Here in RI it was supposed to be a nice warm day. So I decided to have my first yard sale with mostly stockpile items. It was windy and cold with sprinkles. But I advertised it on Craigs List and Kijiji. I sold 3/4's of what I put out. I made almost $400. I couldn't believe it!! I now have four people who want to buy from me on a regular basis. Huge thanks to DianaJ64 for showing me how to use coupons and to stockpile.

That's awesome!! congrats! What did you put in your advertisements on Craigslist?? did you hang signs?? What were your prices on things and what sold the best do you think?? I'm due in July to have my second baby and will have a yard sale before then. Any help is appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to write it all here.

It is nice that you made a lot of money at your sale and I am sorry if I am the only one that feels this way but I just don't think that stockpiling for resale and to make a profit is a good thing. It keeps people like me who can't get out shopping every day from getting any good deals because by the time I get there everything is gone. I think stockpiling for your own family use or even for charity is really ok but when I walk into a garage sale that has brand new stuff like that for resale I usually walk out. I know in these times people must do what they have to to make a buck. Just my opinion and don't mean to offend anyone.

Point taken, but please be advised that is entirely possible to stockpile w/o clearing the shelves. I've never once cleared a shelf (unless only 1 or 2 items remain). I tend to buy 4-6 items at a time, over the course of multiple trips throughout the week.

I am having a yard sale this weekend, and I don't really "need" the money. However, I'm selling stuff I've gotton using coupons to support my garage sale habit and my coupon habit. After all, I've got time (sometimes--LOTS of time!) and gas invested in the items I purchase, and I see nothing wrong w/ making a small profit. I'm selling things far cheaper than they can be bought in a store, so I feel I am helping others get a good deal too.

I totally agree with what you are saying. This coupon thing has become a second job for me. I spend hours a week clipping and organizing. Then even more hours driving from here to there getting the things that I can get cheap or free. I have helped people in my family and my friend with the stuff that I get. I am not greedy with anything. If I am able to make a few dollars for all of the hours of work I do then so be it.

Great job!!! I recently had a yard sale and made a lot of money. My family needs the money and I put in many hours clipping, sorting, driving, and paid for the items. I never clear the shelves either unless there is only 1 or 2 left. I think that if I walked into a yard sale and saw items that I use every day for 1/2 price I would be thrilled. Somone else has done the work for them and they are saving money.

I also would love to know this...planning on a May garage sale. I don't know how to describe the sale in craigslist or in the local paper. On a side note...I also have made a very nice stockpile for my family....without ever clearing out the stores!

Awesome job. I had a garage sale back in Feb right before we moved and put out some stockpile items b/c i didn't want to have to move them and was shocked when those were the items that sold the fastest. I am looking forward to my next garage sale (that will be mostly stockpile items!).

Great job! How do you figure out what to charge on your items? Is it a certain percentage of actual retail? I don't think anyone in my area would buy stockpile items so I won't be doing it but am curious - congrats on your first rummage sale of the year!
