We always start with disposables and switch to cloth once the umbilical cord falls off or the shower dipes were gone (huge money saver, but it does take an initial investment). So I do not know how many to stock. I do know that neither of my children was ever in a newborn size and my smallest started in a size 1/2 (they were doing combo sizes then) and Z (who was under 10 pounds) started in a 2, so I would not suggest buying a lot of the smallest sizes. Good luck!! Yay for new babies ![]() ![]() !!!!

I really depends on the size your child is at birth. size 1 I stocked for the first 6 months 10-15 lbs . I only got a couple size 2 very similar to size 1. Size 3 they can be in for almost a year 16-28 lbs . I found that to be the biggest stockpile. DD turned 2 today and she is in a 4 22-37 lb if huggies and 5 if CVS or Walgreens Last edited by queenbear; 04-03-2009 at 11:01 AM. |

The baby is still cooking. Actually, has quite a ways to go... I have 4 of each(size 1-3) from the Wag's huggies deal. I was thinking I wanted to go with less size 1 and more of size 2 b/c the mom was a large baby. She never wore newborn. She was a 10 lbs turkey!

Good question! I bought 2 newborns and 1 size 1 from last deal at WAG. (Many ppl saying that they didn't need new born ones but I got them just in case since they were averaging 1.5 a bag for me. Last thing I want to do right after I give birth is going around town trying to find the cheapest diaper!) I also heard from some ppl that you can exchange your diaper into different sizes if they are unopened. I will stock up size 2 & 3 with my last 2 huggies coupons this week.

My youngest is 9 weeks old. I used 5 packs of newborn before going to size 1. We are still in size one now and probably will be for a little while. I would guess that I have used about 3 or 4 packs of size one so far. I have 4 more and have 4 packs of size 2 already. He was born 8 lbs 2 oz and is now already 12 lbs 6 oz....he's a big boy! So, to break it down: 5 packs newborn approx 7 to 9 packs size 1 not sure on size 2, but have 4 on hand. It all depends on how often you change them too. We change him quite often because of the fact that he gets rashes easily and when he gets them, they are horrible!! My girls were not like this, but, he has had a rough 9 weeks. Good luck to you and congrats!

I wrote this down with DS (b/c that's just the way I am!) He was HUGE 10 lbs but didn't gain weight fast, every baby varies of course: Never in NB Size 1: 8 weeks ~50-60 diapers per week -->~400 diapers Size 1-2: week 9-week 14 ~45 diapers per week -->~270 diapers Size 2: week 15- week 26 ~ 35 per week -->~ 360 diapers Size 3: my notes just say "about 275" didn't track after that... HTH!

I would only get 1-2 packs of newborns, I used up the pack that the hospital gave us and maybe 2 more and that was it with the new borns, size 2 was a long time size 3 was a shorter time and size 4 we have been in a while since she was about 9 months, she is 14 months now

I have 7 month old twins and being small when they were born (5lbs each) they did not stay in newborn even preemie for more than a month I used about 6 packs. When they moved up to size one it was for another month. Then they stayed in size 2 for 4 months and now that they are seven months they are in size 3. I really don't think you will need many of the newborn top it off at about 2 to 3 packs.

The max I would stock up on 4 jumbos size 1, 8-10 size 2, 15-20 size 3, and 15-20 size 4. I would just take home as many NB as I could from the hospital. I found babycheapskate.com very helpful for baby deals. (This blog got me started on couponing and introduced me to AFC! |

I always needed more newborns that I planned. I ended up using 3-4 each time when I thought only 1 or 2. All 4 of my kids were 7-8 pounds. Then we probably used 5-6 size 1s and then a lot more 2s. My 16 month old is still in 4s and she's been in them since before Christmas - but she's also not big.

Wow... I remember stockpiling diapers! Now I just stockpile for friends, family, etc. - my system is a lot like CTSunshine. It really varies from week to week a little for me - after we finished the stage 1, stage 2, etc. I always had leftover diapers...

Defintely do not stock up on newborn diapers or probably even size 1. My DS chubby tushy didn't even come close to fitting a newborn diaper from the day he was born. He was busting out of size 1's in no time at all too. Size 2's lasted a little longer but he's been on the lower end of size 3's for a while and it appears he will be in them for a long time to come as they go to 28 pounds and he's 7 months and 20 pounds so surely to goodness he's not going to pass 28 pounds any time soon. I'm sure to a degree it depends on the baby but it seems like, from reading everyone else's response, 3-4 are the sizes to stock up on.

While 3's and 4's are sizes to really stock up on, my daughter was in 2's for over six months, and went through a few packs of newborns, and was in 1's for a while. The hardest part is that every single baby is different. Some diapers will work for one baby and not at all for the next. So while stockpiling is a great idea, its pretty tough to do because you never know what will work.

I have been stockpiling b/c I'm due in June. I have been going off of what my mom and sister say they used for my nieces and also off of Baby Cheapskate blog and what she says has worked. I know everyone always says 'it's always different' and while that is true, you still want to be halfway prepared. I would say don't be buying size Newborn, b/c you do not know how big your baby will be when born (she/he may already be too big for the size) and the hospital will give you some. Also size Newborn, you're baby will only be in for a short while. So worst case scenario, you end up buying a pack if the hospital free diapers didn't suffice. Same goes for Size 1, I wouldn't buy too many, especially if you are having a baby shower. What size will they buy? Size 1. If you are not having a baby shower and you don't expect anyone to be giving you any diapers, then get a couple packs of Jumbo in Size 1. Again if you have a bigger baby, then he/she will only be in Size 1 for the first month or so. I have been concentrating on stocking on Size 2 and 3's. Also remember even though they say like for Size 1, that a baby can weight 8-14 lbs....you are not going to be putting your 13-14 lbs baby in a Size 1. You will have already jumped up in size. It is better to have bigger b/c your baby will grow into them. Also you don't want to squeeze your baby into a smaller diaper. |

Personally I say don't stress TOO much over exactly how many of each size to stock. Get enough for at least a couple of months of each size (maybe fewer for the newborns and size 1's in case it's a cute chubby little baby ) and make sure you always have a couple of the next size up on hand so you can try it out if you think it might be time to go up a size. If you end up not needing some of the smaller sizes, it is really easy to take them to the store and just exchange them for the bigger size that you need.

Something else to keep in mind. I stocked up on a bunch of Pampers and it turns out that my son breaks out in a rash if I have one on him for more than 5 minutes so now I'm scattering to supplement my diaper stockpile, meanwhile, my girlfriend who couldn't care less about stockpiling is the lucky recipient of about 12 packs of free Pampers for her new bundle of joy! Moral of the story....don't put all your diapers in one basket!

I'm stockpiling both Pampers and Huggies for baby on the way -- that's the deals I've found so far. If baby is sensitive to either of those, or if baby outgrows a size and for some reason I can't exchange at the store, I'll give them for baby showers or donate to a diaper pantry. You really can't go wrong. HTH...

Folks, you just never know what size to have on hand! My little one went through NINE OR TEN packs of PREEMIE sized diapers and then probably at least that many newborn packages. He was a 35 week preemie, but his weight wasn't the issue--it was his skinny little waist. And big babies run in my family, so I was expecting to not use the NBs at all! Buy enough of whatever size to make you comfortable--tape your receipts to the packages and exchange them if you need to!

My three were all big (9lb 12oz, 10lb 3oz, and 11lb 7oz) We stayed in size 3 and size 5 the longest. We never used a NB (obviously!) and were only in a 1 for a short period of time. I had three packs stockpiled and ended up trading them in for 3's. We were in 2's for a month or so-- Size 3 for about 6 months Size 4 for about a month Size 5 for at least a year now Here is hoping that we will not live to see the dreaded size 6!!!

i noticed that huggies supreme went from being 'gentle care' to 'little snugglers' at walmart and cvs. they are still gentle care at wags. the ones i've stockpiled in recent months are all gentle care. will i not be able to exchange, even with receipt, because of this?
