Is there some where with a beginners list of what kind of sales are the best ones for stockpiling? I mean, like the rock bottom lowest price you're going to see on something such as shampoo? Or is it just something you figure out as you go? That would be a really nice list for newbies if we could see which sales are the amazing ones....

Due to the wonderful shopping tips I have a small stockpile of toothpaste (10) for a family of 3. Although, there are great bargains to be had, I have to refrain myself as I don't want to end up wasting. Aside from food items that have expiration dates how long can you store shampoos, conditioners, soap and lotion??? I am particularly interested in lotion since there is a good deal at Walgreens for the Vaseline. I probably use less than a bottle a month. I have also already accumulated about 20 razors, anyone have experience with them rusting in storage? Thank you.

I always teach people to make a basic "Price List".

Column 1: Item Description (example: Soap)
Column 2: Unit Size (example: 1 Bar)
Column 3: Regular Price (example: .50--remember, that's per unit)
Column 4: Stockpile Price (example: .25--Use a pencil b/c this will likely change!)

If you're just starting out, fill out the first 3 columns and start watching for sales/coupons. You'll buy toothpaste for 50 cents and think "Wow, that was great!" Soon, you won't pay more than 25 cents. Then one day, you'll look at a shelf with 100 tubes of toothpaste and realize you'll only "buy" it if it's FREE!

This is also VERY helpful for meat, produce, dairy, and bakery items where prices vary so much by region and even the time of year.

See, if you NEED something, you might pay the regular price. When it's at rock-bottom, you stockpile it so you never have to pay that regular price again.

Lotion usuallykeeps for a good while. dont know how long exactly. I have had shampoo over a year and it is fine. Razors I have got a stockpile for a couple of years and they have all been fine so far. I dont know if bar soap goes bad or not. I actually have deoderant that is past its due date by a couple of months and still fine (am using it now). Going overboard is easy to do. I think you just have to watch ads and stuff to get the cheapest. I was getting so much HBA and cleaning supplies with kmart doubles.

Thanks for the great tips! I'm hoping to get my stockpile going soon. I really want TP, paper towels, canned goods, tissues, tampons, pop (yes we are addicted), q-tips, etc. It is just my bf and I plus our little dog and cat so I don't need a huge stockpile like a family of 6 would need.
