well we aree expecting to get our 1st newborn anywhere from 1month to may 18th and I have 12 packs of newborn and about 8 size 1 and only a handful of 2 & 3's but we are planning to use cloth all in ones after newborns are all done. I have about six of diaper rash, baby wash, lotion & oil, but planning on getting more this week with the wags deal

I would only get one pack of newborns, just in case they come early. The bigger the size the more you need, I have found. So for size 1 and 2, about 2 months supply each. Size 3 should be about three months worth. By the time they are in size four about Four-five months supply. As far as 5 and 6, I would say as many as you can get your hands on, . If you see them getting close to the next size, exchange them before you open the pack. This way you are not squeezing your little one in diapers that are two small. Always better to be big then small. We change them regularly for wake up for morning and naps, before dinner, after bath-bedtime. On average 5-6 diapers a day, sometimes more depending on the situation. Hope that helps.

I agree with acroporslover. Both of my little one hardly fit the newborns. My littlesest is in size five now. I have 4 boxes in my closet and I am still planning stocking up on more.

I have a 6 month old, he was 7 pounds even at birth. We went through 5 - 40 packs of newborn diapers, 8 -40 packs of size 1's, and about 13 40 packs of size 2's. We switched over to size 3's recently.

I would say with both my kids we seemed to be in size 3 the longest. When I was pregnant and saw some on sale, I bought size three. My son is now 7 months old and in size three and we have gone through all the packs I bought while I was pregnant!

I would only buy 1 pack of newborns, maybe 2 at most. They don't stay in newborns very long.

I'd say size 3 is the size they're in the longest. Newborn goes rather fast and so does 1 in my opinion.

Yup, stock up on a lot of size 3. I would get a pack of newborn (just in case they are bigger) then several size 1-2, but the bulk is size 3 since that stage seem to be the longest one. Just keep your receipts. I bet you can exchange them for the size you need in case you run out, but have other sizes.

You really can't know the answer to this question until it happens. My MIL said only buy 1 pack of newborns so I did and found myself going to the store when I was in a lot of pain. I used a lot of newborn diapers. I don't think you want to put the baby in bigger sizes but thats my opinion. I would just wonder about leaking issues. But, I never tried it myself so maybe not an issue. Every baby is different. My next baby might only need 1 pack of newborns. Wipes however. Well, I don't think you could evver have to many of those. Also, if you check expiration on baby food, cereal and juice and it goes far enough out I would stock up on some of that. Aren't you excited?!! Its all going to be ok as you probably know it comes back to you really fast! Good luck! |

I agree that size 3 tends to last the longest, so that's worth stockpiling the most! The smaller sizes really vary depending on each baby. Good luck!

DS #2 is two months old (almost) and he was 8lbs 3ozs at birth. He went down to 7 something at 2 weeks b/c he was in the hopital. He went through maybe 2 packs of newborn diapers and he is fixing to be in size 2. I wouldnt get to many newborns.

DD's been in Size 3 the longest, but we went through more 1's and 1-2's per day. When they're on mostly liquids, they get a lot more wets. As far as diaper cream, lotion, baby wash - we're still on the 1st tube of Desitin, so I would not stock up on more than 2 of those. If you have a baby w/rash problems, you'll know it early. Most people don't give a bath every day and you only use a little squirt so for the first year I'd guess it's around 3-4 bottles of baby wash? We're only on the second bottle of Johnson's Baby Lotion - the great-smelling pink one - and we use it after every bath, plus I use it on my hands quite often. Side note - I've adopted all of DD's Huggies Hypoallergenic lotion for myself. It's the white bottle and is the best thing for after you've shaved your legs. No irritation at all for me.

You may need the newborn diapers a little longer than I did. DD was 8 lbs 14 oz, and only in newborn diapers for 2 weeks at the most. She went right into 1s, and didn't stay there too long either. I think you'd need more 2s and 3s.

I agree with most posters on newborn. I found it newborn was too small almost immediately (maybe 2 weeks) with ds 2 (born 8 lb 9!) But wipes, as long as there still in the package, they're good--so buy up at any good deal (Amazon has amazing deals sometimes, when they actually have wipes). Also, I didn't stockpile diaper rash cream with ds 2 because I had so much from ds 1 and didn't need it much. But if you find yourself getting close to the expiration date and have a lot of it, it makes a great sunscreen--zinc oxide ones anyway.

I would get 3 pks of newborns to start with, that way you don't have to haul the other two kids plus a new baby to the store to get more if needed since your other two were smaller babies. Also, I would start stocking up on 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's if you have the $$$ to do so, or friends and family asking what to get ya. This way you will always have the next size up when needed, and as the other poster said, you can exchange un-opened packs for the larger sizes(especially at Wal-mart). I wouldn't stock up on boxes from Target though of Luv's if you're using them. Wal-mart's boxes contain more diapers in their boxes of Luv's for some odd reason . Wal-mart will match the sale ads , too, of the name brand diapers, and sometimes they'll match their store brand to the sale price of other store brands. Store to store, cashier to cashier type of thing. If you're nursing stock up on nursing pads , don't forget to have some infant meds on hand along with the diaper rash cream (just like with the food, check the expiration dates!) Stuff like tylenol, ibuprofen, and gas drops. The gas drops from Wal-mart saved my sanity in the middle of the night until I figured out what I was eating and passing on to my youngest thru my milk to make his tummy so upset in the first month. Good Luck, it's just like riding a bike, you may be wobbly at first - but you don't forget!!Best Wishes, Katie

It really does depend..however, here is what I have found..if you have a package of diapers let's say newborn and your baby outgrows them, you can take any upopened packs back and exchange them. I have done that and the stores have been very gracious about it. Right now Walgreens has a FABULOUS Huggies deal! I'm stocking up on all sizes since we have one that can wear 2's or 3's but we are also foster parents so we get all sizes of tushes at a moment's notice. So I have Newborn to size 6. The great thing is if someone around here is in dire straights, the church or Foster parent association will call and ask if I have any to spare. I love to say yes!

my last kid was 9lb 2 oz when born and she ended up in the nicu. Weird huh. it was sorta sad to go in there. there was only 3 other babies in there, one 3lb baby and 2 2 lb babies. i remember sitting there holding her (giant fat body) one day only to realize that the man next to me was staring. The nurses later said he couldn't understand why she was in there. why did my baby have to be so big when his was so small But what I was trying to get at was we NEVER used newborns. they were just too small. I find that you use size 4s forever! My daughter who is turned 3 back in November ( I know, still not trained) has been in them for like 2 and 1/2 years!!! She isn't fat anymoreIts all my husbands fault. He was his Mothers first and he was 8lb 8oz. By the time she got to her 12th !!! baby it weighed over 12lbs! |

I've been stocking up for #2 due in June. This is what I have all jumbo size: 3 NB (if I don't use them I don't want to be running around for them and can exchange them) 11 size 1 20 size 2 1 size 3 I saw a chart somewhere based on growth charts that said 2 NB 8-10 size 1 20-24 size 2 .... don't remember size 3 or where I saved it.... DD #1 was 8lbs 4 oz at birth and in NB for a little bit. At only 25 lbs and almost 3 she wears diapers only at night but was in size 6 |

DS was 8 lbs 6 oz and then lost a lb. Dr. didn't realize my milk was not coming in and he had been starving and was really jaundiced. That went on for a wk and he almost went into the hospital. Talk about feeling like a failure as a mother, I was such a mess! But to think I had been starving my baby took the cake! So he was in newborns till he was almost 2 months and 1's till he was almost 4 months. He was'nt used to eating much so it took him awhile to catch up. I know for next time!

My DD is almost 7 months old and just switched over to size 3. She was in newborn size for maybe 2 weeks tops. It was half and half with size 1 and size 2 between the 5 or so months.

I'd say stock up on the smaller sizes first (size 1,2,and 3).. you can always take them back to the store in exchange for a larger size..I have 3 children and it always worked for me.. :-)
