| I give up - am I the only one?
I have a small stockpile of groceries. but every single time i try to create a stockpile of "good stuff" (snack foods), my dh eats it all!!!! i opened our last box of froot loops yesterday morning for my oldest dd. i went this morning to get a handful for my youngest dd and couldn't find the box. when i checked the trash can, there it was!!!! my dh ate the WHOLE box (minus maybe a cup of cereal for the girls) in less than 24 hours!!! aaargh! does anyone else have the problem of their family eating more than they should if it is there for the taking? i am getting sooo frustrated with this! |

I have the same problem. I usually put stuff in the closet in a rubbermaid container where no one looks and its makes it easier. ! If i put it in the pantry, it is gone.

LOL I know in the begining that was the way it was at my house. It was a feeding frenzy when I came home. Since we were on such a tight budget we didn't have a lot of snack, or fun food as we call it. But, don't give up. It will lose it's newness and then you will be able to have 30+ boxes of cereal on the shelves. My DS13 can eat a whole box in one sitting if I let him. LOL Food is one thing that will be a little harder to stockpile, since you are consuming it. I've been doing this for over a year now, and my food stock is very little. Hang in there. Lynda |

| I have just the OPPOSITE problem
If I have over 3 of something in the house then DD (who loved this food yesterday) will suddenly decide that she is sick of it and does not want it now! It is very frustrating, as I will ASK before I stockpile some food that she eats. And anyone that has a teenager will tell you...they are just fickle...as this NOT how is goes with hair products, makeup and stuff like that....JUST food! |

Oh, yes. I posted somewhere else awhile back that I am always trying to create a toothpaste stockpile, but DH always opens them all up to test the flavors...I probably have 20 open tubes of toothpaste! |

I had that problem with cereal as well. My DS is a cereal eater and will go through cereal like no tomorrow. SO, we've set rules. I have two plastic containers that we fill up with cereal and no new box can be opened until one is empty.... The rest are put on top of my kitchen cabinets, along with popcorn and boxed mashed potatoes.... |

Oh my DH and I would have to talk!!!!!! I do keep like 5-7 boxes of cereal open at all times that way there is a variety to choose from. But if the shelve for open boxes is full and somebody opens another it drives me crazy also there better not be 2 boxes of the same cereal open at one time........OCD I guess!!!!And he does this with toothpaste too!!!!! There would be some rules going on for sure!!! Don't give up just start hiding from him and bring out a box or tube when the others are empty!!!!!!!

My DH will do the same thing with cereal. He once ate the whole box of Rice Crispies in one day (minus the amount DD had for breakfast), and then had the nerve to ask if we had more, I told him no.(LOL) I have no doubt he would have eaten most of them that same day too. So, I hide food in a big rubbermaid storage container, and just pick out a few different boxes of cereal at a time. I have noticed that if they see it, they will eat it, especially the cereal and other snack type foods. |

Same problem here too... I hide the stuff. I put it up on the highest shelf, too much effort on his part to try and get it down!!

i know once i start buying foods and such i'm going to be hiding it from DH...not so much hiding it from him but not letting him know that i bought such great stuff...i'll put a nice amount in the pantry and i'll keep the rest in the stockpile room...we typically restock our pantry every 2 weeks (paydays) so if he runs through it all in a day well stinks for him he won't get more until the next "payday" regardless of if it's in the stockpile room or not.

My DH has done this too. It depends on what it is and the situation really for us. I've told him to ask me if we have anymore of such-n-such before he finishes it and if we don't, then he can't finish it. he's also started taking portions out for himself (ok maybe more than a normal human portion, but not the whole box). He'll take a cup full or a ziploc bag or something instead. If he want's more, he can go back and get it. If he has the box in front of him at the TV or something - he'll eat the whole thing and not even realize it!! Don't give up though. I like to keep much of my stuff out of site though. If he asks for something I see if I have it and will get it for him. He gets excited when I have something he's craving since i don't always have it. If he can't see it and I get it for him - it really gets him excited about it! It's like shopping without having to leave the house or wait or anything! you'll figure out what works for you guys I'd talk to DH and tell him that just because you are bringing this stuff in, he can't eat it ALL!!! Noone NEEDS a whole box of cereal in 1 DAY!!! What did he eat before?? He needs to come to a happy medium - and I think he will once the newness wares off a bit!

My kids eat everything! There is no stockpile of snack food in my house. If the food comes in the house it ends up in their bellies!

I had the same problem at first with the kids. It was like there was so much food, it was a race to see how fast they could go through it. After time, they got used to seeing so much stuff in my bomb shelter (that's what the kids call my stock pile in the basement) it wasn't as much of an issue. I'd get a big outside garbage can, put food and snacks in the bottom and put a pack or 2 of TP on top. This way when DH opens it, all he sees is TP
